Well if you want a great culinary, wine and service experience I highly recommend Goose & Gander! The mushroom soup is a 12/10! Thank you to the staff for a great evening! Oh and the bar downstairs for an after dinner drink was awesome! Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon served with a smile!

We don’t know what happened that evening, the hosts seemed disorganized, we showed up on time and waited for a while face to face w/ them w/o explaining what caused the delay, seemed like they didn’t see u, though the server was really good, the steak was hard , pork knda bloody? ..... wine selection? You need a magnifying glass to see them? .....though the dessert was okay! Maybe, they were just too busy? We’re not so sure about that! Anyway............??? Yes....thanks to the great server!

The menu was limited but everything sounded delicious. We started off with cocktails of course, and we highly recommend the Pear Shrub. Light and Refreshing to get you ready for the meal. We decided to go for an assortment of small plates. We ordered 5 and 4 of the 5 were delicious. The smoked corn croquettes were a bit disappointing. We didn't get much "smoke" but the dipping sauce was flavorful. I think it was just in comparison to the other offerings. The bone marrow was deliciously decadent. The cauliflower was divine, and the brussel sprouts were carmelized and the egg provided the sauce, and the octopus was great too. But the best dish was dessert a fried cake that was crispy on the outside and soft and unctuous on the inside served with a fruit compote. Wait staff was informative and helpful. Great experience and we will definitely go back.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice dinner without the feeling of being in an overly upscale atmosphere. This is not to say it is not a nice place. It is definitely a nice restaurant. However, it has a more homey and relaxed atmosphere. Food was good and service was superb!

The cocktails were good except one glass was returned twice because of things floating in it that did not belong there. The hamburger was quite nicely done as were the fries. The chicken wings were a real disappointment as they had a gummy coating and were not interesting or very tasty.

Goose and Gander was our favorite dining location on our trip to Napa Valley during an engagement and 5 year anniversary. We ate here twice on our 5 day trip due to disappointing dinners at other local restaurants. The chefs special was very creative and deliciously thought through. There was not a bite or sip of disappointment in the hand crafted recipes. We partook in the roasted chicken, the cauliflower, the mushroom linguini, and the 30 day dry rub rib eye soaked in burbon and duck fat. The staff were great about recommending drinks and even changed out a drink that was disliked without any question. The desserts were about the best part of the meal including the blueberry trifle and the salted strawberry shortcake. The ambiance was amazing both inside and outside. The outside is perfect for a date including string lights and a koi pond fountain that is fun to watch. The inside is a very cozy log cabin/gentleman’s library, perfect to snuggle up in.

I love everything about this restaurant...the bar, the dining area, the outside garden all have unique, yet cozy spaces for imbibing and dining. The new chef does an amazing job with the menu and has maintained some of the classics, like their mushroom soup. Artisan cocktails never disappoint and service is always solid and consistent. Definitely should be on your list for one of the best restaurants St. Helena has to offer.

We dined in a Thursday to celebrate our anniversary. I did not expect to have such a rushed meal:the waiter dropped by and took our order and then “boom”all of the food came out. Our waiter was acting like a server in a Denny’s: she was nice but seemed stressed out and rushed. And when apparently some friends came in behind us, she decided to focus on them. In the 5 minutes between our appetizer and main course, she asked if we wanted a drink. I said yes but please us a second to make up our mind. She never came back until mid-way through our main course and by then we had lost interest. Oh well, saved us some money.

The food was great and I’m glad we tried it. I would hate to go there at a peak time, it must be nuts. It seems like the restaurant’s policy is to fill tables even when they don’t have enough wait staff, that’s too bad. The restaurant lost about 50 bucks, so maybe they trade flipping tables for over all experience of the diner. Oh well, there are a lot of choices in the area.

The burger was prepared to the correct doneness but was tough as was the bun . The “foie gras” I ordered as an extra topping appeared to be chicken liver not foie gras.
The area we sat in next to the koi pond needed a really good cleaning.
My husband’s duck was perfectly prepared and the Black-out Forest Cake was quite good.

A wonderful unique, almost hidden gem of St Helena. I highly recommend a table on the patio on a nice night. And the basement is always lively for drinks! A wonderful experience every time.

Waiters were helpful and did not try to rush us as so many places do. We savored the appetizers and cocktails! If your a great list of unusual cocktails this is the place for you. The prime rib was perfect and accompanied by those creamy mash potatoes - yum (no sparing the butter on these)

We went here for a late lunch and the food was fantastic. Super stand outs are the mushroom soup- which they even have the recipe for if you ask! And the chicken sandwich, though pricey was one of the best friend chicken sandwiches I have had.

I came for the burgers, as I had many times before, with four friends that all ordered burgers based upon my recommendation. However, the chef had changed the buns to something that could not even be cut with a knife. This from the delicate and delicious buns that had been used previously. It was a disaster.

Great restaurant / pub in the Calistoga neighborhood. It was on the drive back to the bay area from Castello di Amorosa.

The atmosphere and booths were cozy. The first floor was the dining area and they have a bar downstairs I believe. We just had wine tasting before the meal so we opted for food only.

Food:
- Spanish octopus (appetizer): Very tender and flavorful, highly recommended
- Brussel sprouts with bacon and duck egg were innovative and tasty
- G&G burger: a great burger, but the portion was wayyy too big for one person to finish. Highly recommend that you share with others in your party.
- Fried pig ears were sweet and spicy, surprisingly good
- Charcuterie board: good variety, my friend really liked it

My girlfriend and I ordered a rosemary pear soda and rosemary pear shrub coctail, respectively. In contrast, the bill noted we had both been served a rosemary pear shrub cocktail. My girlfriend is currently pregnant so this immediately alarmed us. We inquired about the charge and were told they were both cocktails. It is unknown if the beverage was in fact a soda or cocktail. With significant food allergies and pregnancies we would assume one would be more cautious. We were served by Shelly on 02/24/18.

My wife and I had lunch on an off season Thursday at 1:15. The restaurant was uncrowded. The ambiance is great in both the restaurant and the downstairs bar. The service was extremely attentive. The food quality was excellent. I had the Prix Fixe lunch with very flavorful mushroom soup, hanger steak frites entree, and the chocolate cake dessert. Wonderful! I also had a very nice bourbon drink called the What's Up Doc. Yum! However, my wife's buttermilk chicken sandwich had a slightly burnt coating. The server made it good by immediately offering to redo the meal when we mentioned it during his quality check. However, my wife decided that a little hot sauce fixed it right up, opting not to wait for a redo. The server removed the charge anyway (extremely kind of him). We would definitely go back and would recommend this restaurant!

I have always wanted to try Goose and Gander after loving Martini House so much years ago. I am glad I tried it. I didn't think the food was great, and I found a hair in my pasta dish. My pasta was swimming in a "simple sauce" of oil and butter. It lacked salt and flavor. I thought it would be as good or better than Phoenix Pasta, a brand of fresh pasta readily available at my local grocery. Unfortunately, my pasta was over cooked and very bland. It didn't even have any flavor from the Hedgehog mushrooms. Then I found the hair, and I just lost my appetite for it after that. I understand that fat brings flavor, so that might be why my dining partner's burger appeared with fois gras added as well as bacon. However it was overwhelming, like the oil in my pasta. The burger bun was stale and crumbling. I pulled the hair out of my dish and placed it on the rim. The server didn't even flinch or question why I didn't want to take it home. Maybe it's just an unpopular dish and the server was tired of defending it.

Noise level was quite high as a number of the patrons were over served and the kitchen is open to the dining hall. One woman was laughing hysterically all evening - it was pretty entertaining. Another woman was falling asleep at her table. Folks, pace yourselves! Haha. The cocktails at Martini house are amazing, and they probably easily tempt someone to try more than they can handle. Their wine list is decent but there aren't many wines by the glass options, compared to other restaurants in the valley. You should definitely give it a college try and make sure you go to the bar. We were on time for our reservation but the hostess was scattered and we had to wait 45 minutes. We waited at the bar which is impressive. I am actually glad we were delayed because the basement bar is worth a visit.
