Goose & Gander Ratings and Reviews
Went for my ladies Birthday this last weekend and they nailed everything. I tipped the restaurant off with notating that we were coming for a Birthday celebration. As we got to our seats the host laid the menus down and printed across the top was her name. Our waiter Jason was awesome! First off he greeted us and wished my lady a Happy Birthday then asked if we have been to the restaurant before which we hadn't so he broke down the menu to make selecting what we wanted quick and easy, he was also very attentive and we never felt like we were waiting. We both ordered the New York Steak which was seasoned perfectly and cooked just right. We were both filled after the meal, but what's celebrating a birthday without desert?! The desert that stood out the most from the menu was the Take Five Candy Bar (I will be going back occasionally just to get this to fulfill my sweet cravings!) which was the best way to end the dining experience.
Bottom line the service was awesome, food was amazing and I appreciate that they went above and beyond for us to make this experience nothing less than perfect.
Thank you all and big thanks to our server Jason!
Great service. They printed up a special birthday menu for our table (it was my mother's b-day). Fun food choices, like the "Vietnamese Pig Ears" (tasted like bacon). Deep Fried Olives with Pistachios were amazing! Cocktails were elegant and creative. Will return soon.
We visit this area once a year and try to eat at Goose & Gander at least twice! Love the downstairs atmosphere and the staff is super knowledgeable about all the food and drinks. The bone marrow burger with duck fat fries is amazing! I have dreams about that burger because it is so good. We also tried the Sunday supper prime rib special this time and it was great. This is a must visit restaurant! It’s an all time favorite of ours!
We came here for my wife’s birthday. The server did a great job making this a special occassion with little things like customizing the menu to say Happy Birthday. The food was amazing and was an overall wonderful experience. Will defiantly come back and recommend it to anyone!
What a cool English hunting lodge minus the stuffed game. It’s cozy, unstuffy and downright friendly. The “Coolest Bar in the World” downstairs . The staff were so knowledgeable, had a great grasp of their menu as well as the and Great cocktails. Hell, it’s the “Martini House”. So glad they kept the Martini House Mushroom Soup. Outstanding!
Went for lunch based on open table review. Two ladies for a midweek lunch. Love it all! Awsome ambience next to fireplace. Wanna go back during warm weather to sit for drinks in downstairs bar or outside patio. Food met expectations for napa valley lunch; Mushroom soup was delish, a loved fried chicken Sandwich. Plan to go back with large group to sit in private dining room!
The food was delicious but the service left a bit to be desired. Our table of 5 ordered 4 appetizer for one couple to share as dinner, and 2 main course, and one person not eating due to illness ; now, as a restaurant manager I understand that the server may have been disappointed, but her abrupt change in attitude from pleasant to overtly rude was unacceptable. While the meal was delicious and her attitude softened a bit by the end of service, it definitely put a large damper on the overall experience.
Really appreciated the cocktails in the downstairs bar. Well executed and tasty. We ordered food and were a little less thrilled. Some of the dishes were good, but others were just off. Either were really bland, weren’t hot or some other thing that just made the dishes miss. Mushroom soup was fantastic though.
We went for dinner to celebrate our anniversary and received complimentary champagne as soon as we sat down. For appetizers, we ordered fried olives/crispy pistachios and grilled Spanish octopus. Both were excellent. For the main entree, we ordered the prime rib and pork chop. The pork chop was so tender, juicy and very flavorful. Prime rib was very good but had too much fat in it. We ordered the Basque cake for dessert which was awesome! I would highly recommend this dessert. Great dining experience overall.
We had a great meal at Good and Gander this last weekend. We were early for our reservation, and moseyed down to the bar. We lucked out, and scored a booth in the bar. It was happening in the bar. Great people watching. Our server Brian was awesome, and gave us some terrific suggestions...one of those being an upgrade of fresh shaved truffles on our mushroom soup. Hands down, best soup I have ever had. Octopus was very good. We also ordered the salmon....it was OK... the tomato conserva in the dish was weird, in my opinion. We will be back if for nothing else, the great service and soup!
Everything we had, from the cocktails to the entrees to the dessert, was perfectly balanced. Chanterelle & Meyer lemon pasta had just enough acidity to balance the chili butter sauce. And whatever you do, you MUST get the basque cake. Several other desserts sounded wonderful, but I know from experience how good basque cake can be and Goose & Gander’s interpretation did not disappoint.
The server did not mention the specials, and although good humored, did not bring the check in a timely manner. The fries, ordered extra crispy, were rather limp, the chicken sandwich greasy. The bathroom - located in the basement, down dark stairs - was not very clean. Not inspired to return. The patio, however, is quite nice, weather permitting.
I had dined here before about a year ago and had a superb experience. Food was good enough this time around, but not as wonderful as I remembered. I was particularly annoyed that our waiter asked us 3x in the course of our first 15 minutes whether or not we were ready to order. It felt like they wanted to rush us out the door (even though we were seated at 7:45, so nowhere near close). All told we were in and out within an hour. With so many wonderful restaurants in the area, I really expected great food and exceptional service.
We loved a restaurant that used to be in this location. This place needs work. We requested bread with our soup and salad since it wasn’t served. The bread we got should have been left unserved. Our special occasion was ignored, and mains were served while still drinking our cocktails. We had to summon the waiter for wine, food was cold by the time the wine appeared. Coffee was served without cream or sugar.
I was staying in Calistoga for one week. Three nights I decided to dine here because the experience was incredible. The staff - Emma, Jack, and Jay were so professional and friendly. The cocktails were mind blowingly good. The food was excellent. Ordered the dry wings - delicious! The bone marrow was sensational. I’d highly recommend this stop to anyone in the area.
Interesting place, outdoor seating is beautiful with persimmon trees. The menu is a little complicated and small. That said, I had the burger and it was great (but messy). Duck fat fries were very plain. Overall, good ambiance, great service, ok menu but what we had was pretty good.
