Great meal and excellent service by Jason.
Phenomenal wine & cocktail list. Look forward to visiting again. Thank you Jason!
We went here for a late lunch and the food was fantastic. Super stand outs are the mushroom soup- which they even have the recipe for if you ask! And the chicken sandwich, though pricey was one of the best friend chicken sandwiches I have had.
Food was ok. More like a bar food diner. Prob just come here for their delicious cocktails next time.
The bartender was amazing food terrific service exceptional!
Duck fat French fries were served cold, entrees a little on the bland side. Menu looks good but it’s all hype. This wasn’t a bad restaurant but it’s nothing special.
The pig ears are a must have and the beef chicharones were do die for!!! We got a little of everything and it was well worth it. Drinks are delish also.
Great food, unique as well. Service was excellent and friendly.
Had to asked 3 times for bill. Took 1/2 hr. Food was great!!
I came for the burgers, as I had many times before, with four friends that all ordered burgers based upon my recommendation. However, the chef had changed the buns to something that could not even be cut with a knife. This from the delicate and delicious buns that had been used previously. It was a disaster.
Great restaurant / pub in the Calistoga neighborhood. It was on the drive back to the bay area from Castello di Amorosa.
The atmosphere and booths were cozy. The first floor was the dining area and they have a bar downstairs I believe. We just had wine tasting before the meal so we opted for food only.
- Spanish octopus (appetizer): Very tender and flavorful, highly recommended
- Brussel sprouts with bacon and duck egg were innovative and tasty
- G&G burger: a great burger, but the portion was wayyy too big for one person to finish. Highly recommend that you share with others in your party.
- Fried pig ears were sweet and spicy, surprisingly good
- Charcuterie board: good variety, my friend really liked it
My girlfriend and I ordered a rosemary pear soda and rosemary pear shrub coctail, respectively. In contrast, the bill noted we had both been served a rosemary pear shrub cocktail. My girlfriend is currently pregnant so this immediately alarmed us. We inquired about the charge and were told they were both cocktails. It is unknown if the beverage was in fact a soda or cocktail. With significant food allergies and pregnancies we would assume one would be more cautious. We were served by Shelly on 02/24/18.
Food was cold
My wife and I had lunch on an off season Thursday at 1:15. The restaurant was uncrowded. The ambiance is great in both the restaurant and the downstairs bar. The service was extremely attentive. The food quality was excellent. I had the Prix Fixe lunch with very flavorful mushroom soup, hanger steak frites entree, and the chocolate cake dessert. Wonderful! I also had a very nice bourbon drink called the What's Up Doc. Yum! However, my wife's buttermilk chicken sandwich had a slightly burnt coating. The server made it good by immediately offering to redo the meal when we mentioned it during his quality check. However, my wife decided that a little hot sauce fixed it right up, opting not to wait for a redo. The server removed the charge anyway (extremely kind of him). We would definitely go back and would recommend this restaurant!
It's our second time in two trips, two years apart, to have a wonderful dining experience at Goose and Gander. Thank you thank you -- simply marvelous!
Everything they say is true!
Worth a stop.
I have always wanted to try Goose and Gander after loving Martini House so much years ago. I am glad I tried it. I didn't think the food was great, and I found a hair in my pasta dish. My pasta was swimming in a "simple sauce" of oil and butter. It lacked salt and flavor. I thought it would be as good or better than Phoenix Pasta, a brand of fresh pasta readily available at my local grocery. Unfortunately, my pasta was over cooked and very bland. It didn't even have any flavor from the Hedgehog mushrooms. Then I found the hair, and I just lost my appetite for it after that. I understand that fat brings flavor, so that might be why my dining partner's burger appeared with fois gras added as well as bacon. However it was overwhelming, like the oil in my pasta. The burger bun was stale and crumbling. I pulled the hair out of my dish and placed it on the rim. The server didn't even flinch or question why I didn't want to take it home. Maybe it's just an unpopular dish and the server was tired of defending it.
Noise level was quite high as a number of the patrons were over served and the kitchen is open to the dining hall. One woman was laughing hysterically all evening - it was pretty entertaining. Another woman was falling asleep at her table. Folks, pace yourselves! Haha. The cocktails at Martini house are amazing, and they probably easily tempt someone to try more than they can handle. Their wine list is decent but there aren't many wines by the glass options, compared to other restaurants in the valley. You should definitely give it a college try and make sure you go to the bar. We were on time for our reservation but the hostess was scattered and we had to wait 45 minutes. We waited at the bar which is impressive. I am actually glad we were delayed because the basement bar is worth a visit.
Perfect Sunday brunch!
loved this! we were originally super disappointed there wasn't a regular lunch menu but them we saw the charcuterie plate and all was forgiven. out was fantastic. We also had the mushroom soup. highly recommend out but share because it's mighty :) delicious!
Too salty and over priced.
We enjoyed our late afternoon meal here in a dark cozy nook of leather in a perfectly not-hectic restaurant. my Blvd. 6 cocktail in particular with its hand-hewn boulder of ice was perfect. Charcuterie plate was ok - it was very dried out and wasn't the selection that was listed on the menu, but their american version of jamon iberico was quite a worthy-of-the-price addition to it. we would return, as their menu was quite varied, and all around us people were enjoying some creative dishes.
Needed a lunch spot in St Helena and chose Goose & Gander based on their online menu. We were not disappointed! The restaurant had a cool vibe and the food was delicious. Will definitely return!
As usual great food, great service, great atmosphere.
Vacation to Napa
Great food and service. Shelly is the best server in Napa Valley.
Great spot for cocktails and has a great outdoor eating area. Our waiter was very friendly as well.
While honeymooning my husband and I got a recommendation to try this restaurant as it was a "must for foodies." Goose & Gander was exactly that and then some. We dined there on Valentine's day when there was a set menu with wine pairing option. Each course kept getting more and more delicious. The filet mignon with diver scallops are a must! The waiters were excellent- very educated on the food and wine, and had a great sense of humor. When we return to Calistoga we will certainly make reservations at G&G. If you're a foodie and don't mind spending money on good quality food, this is the place for you!
Went here last year for Valentine’s Day and yet again just magnificent food. Our waiter from last year even remembered us, which was pretty awesome! The food was perfect and am already trying to make plans to go back!
We make Goose & Gander our yearly " Valentine's " dinner. My husband and I and our "sister" join for the wonderful ambiance, and good food and drink.
The bone marrow gets smaller but most dishes remain constant.
This year our waiter was Jason who was welcoming and fun.
Same time, next year!
Quality food and service
Underwhelming, below expectations in St helena.
Dinner was amazing! We visited for a twenty-fifth anniversary dinner. Everything was perfect! We recommend this restaurant and the cocktails to everyone we know!
Excellent lunch with four of my work colleagues to celebrate a birthday. The service was great and not overbearing. Our food was very good with very few options that weren't deep fried. We all enjoyed what we ordered and the outdoor ambiance. I'd definitely recommend this to friends and to business colleagues who want a quiet place to talk.
Gasto pub food so made to pair with heavy alcohol drinking . The food was heavy not refined really not what I excepted in wine country . Would not recommend if you are looking for a great culinary experience .
The mushroom soup was outstanding as usual. The staff was friendly and attentive. The crispy pigs ears were wonderfully tasty
last half crab dish for the afternoon was quite upsetting to my stomach :-)
Yummy choices and great service with knowledgeable friendly waiter. Will b back.
Was even better than the great things I've heard about it. Easily jumped to my number 2 spot of places to go and hideout and enjoy a great time!
Food took a while to come out for lunch. Other than that, great food and atmosphere
Great place all around. So appreciate the “Happy Birthday” menus. Made the day even more special. Great service, great food, one of your favorites!!
We read about the restaurant in the AAA magazine. We knew where it was but had always walked by and decided to try it out. It happened to be restaurant week and almost all of the menu was on “special”. We went with the waiter’s wine suggestion and were not disappointed. We almost passed up dessert but had the butterscotch maple pudding. WOW! No espresso but nice pot of pressed coffee. Restaurant has “clubby” vibe. Outdoor seating on warmer days. Cozy bar downstairs. Service and food are five star! Definitely going back!
