We had a great meal at Good and Gander this last weekend. We were early for our reservation, and moseyed down to the bar. We lucked out, and scored a booth in the bar. It was happening in the bar. Great people watching. Our server Brian was awesome, and gave us some terrific suggestions...one of those being an upgrade of fresh shaved truffles on our mushroom soup. Hands down, best soup I have ever had. Octopus was very good. We also ordered the salmon....it was OK... the tomato conserva in the dish was weird, in my opinion. We will be back if for nothing else, the great service and soup!
Everything we had, from the cocktails to the entrees to the dessert, was perfectly balanced. Chanterelle & Meyer lemon pasta had just enough acidity to balance the chili butter sauce. And whatever you do, you MUST get the basque cake. Several other desserts sounded wonderful, but I know from experience how good basque cake can be and Goose & Gander’s interpretation did not disappoint.
The server did not mention the specials, and although good humored, did not bring the check in a timely manner. The fries, ordered extra crispy, were rather limp, the chicken sandwich greasy. The bathroom - located in the basement, down dark stairs - was not very clean. Not inspired to return. The patio, however, is quite nice, weather permitting.
I had dined here before about a year ago and had a superb experience. Food was good enough this time around, but not as wonderful as I remembered. I was particularly annoyed that our waiter asked us 3x in the course of our first 15 minutes whether or not we were ready to order. It felt like they wanted to rush us out the door (even though we were seated at 7:45, so nowhere near close). All told we were in and out within an hour. With so many wonderful restaurants in the area, I really expected great food and exceptional service.
We loved a restaurant that used to be in this location. This place needs work. We requested bread with our soup and salad since it wasn’t served. The bread we got should have been left unserved. Our special occasion was ignored, and mains were served while still drinking our cocktails. We had to summon the waiter for wine, food was cold by the time the wine appeared. Coffee was served without cream or sugar.
I was staying in Calistoga for one week. Three nights I decided to dine here because the experience was incredible. The staff - Emma, Jack, and Jay were so professional and friendly. The cocktails were mind blowingly good. The food was excellent. Ordered the dry wings - delicious! The bone marrow was sensational. I’d highly recommend this stop to anyone in the area.
Interesting place, outdoor seating is beautiful with persimmon trees. The menu is a little complicated and small. That said, I had the burger and it was great (but messy). Duck fat fries were very plain. Overall, good ambiance, great service, ok menu but what we had was pretty good.
They accept large group (we had 10 people). When I called to change my reservation they took care of it very kindly. The waiter is kind and patient, and he always has a smile. My guest liked the steak, and I think the duck breast is delicious, it's crispy outside and tender inside!
Burger lovers- this is your happy place! Fries are the way fries should be, and then some. The mushroom soup is AMAZING. So rich though, so we were glad we shared. Jason took great care of us, graciously and patiently answered our questions. Looking forward to coming back again.
We chose this restaurant based upon reviews and it did not disappoint! Nice touches to help us celebrate our 30th Anniversary - glass of champagne for each of us and menus with our date printed on them. The server (Jason) recommended the fried olives with pistachios and the smoked corn croquettes - what a fabulous start to the meal. We each had the G&G Burger - after eating at great restaurants all week the burger looked appealing. It was cooked to perfection and the taste was amazing. The service from Jason through out the evening was great. We will definitely make this a stop on our next trip to Napa.
After reading about G&G in Wine Spectator, we expected more than we got. I had duck, my wife pork chop. The duck was a little under-cooked and neither duck nor pork were seasoned. We had to ask for salt because there was none on the table. The duck came with ancient grains that was good, but no sauce, which was not so good.. The server was a jolly guy and was very attentive
We went here for our anniversary. Loved the ambience. We enjoyed the cheese plate and duck fat fries. The cheese plate had a very messy look, the crackeres were just tossed on top. We enjoyed the duck and burger entree. Wished we sat outside, because there was a very loud table downstairs with ladies cackling. Our server wasn't very attentive.
Great place, wonderful food, and fantastic people.
Nice options to eat outside in the patio or in the very comfortable inside. Also seemed to have a semi private room for larger groups and a cool bar area downstairs.
Extensive wine list, as expected here, great menu. We loved the cheeses, duck breast, and chicken breast and dessert.
Our service was wonderful. All great...but what really makes this place special is the people. Everyone we interacted with seemed happy and enjoying what they were doing...just a great fun relaxed vibe.

This is our 6th time at G&G and 4 of those times we had the same waitress, Shelley. Absolutely amazing waitress. Very attentive and very friendly. We just adore her. We like to bring friends from out of the area to G&G and we are never disappointed. Their cocktails are world famous and go great with their delicious appetizers. We always seem to get the Corn Croquetts, the fried olives with pistachios and the Duck Fat fries. Dinners have been fabulous and too many to mention. I have never had anything that I wasn't over the top happy with. This is truly a Napa Valley gem.
Their wine list was overpriced - double what you'd find identical bottles for elsewhere - and limited. The steak was $50 and poor quality - tough, flavorless, and with uninspiring sides. The restaurant was overly warm (weather was unseasonably hot, I get it) which further exacerbated our discomfort.
On the plus side, their cocktails were fantastic and the hand-sculpted ice cube was great. The service was excellent.
Such a great food experience. We chose to eat a bunch of small plates instead of an entree each. Oh my goodness the food was to die for, as well as their cocktails. The chicharrones were amazing, the bone marrow was the best, the fries were perfect, the Spanish octopus was lovely and the tomato and burrata salad was so fresh and yummy. We loved each dish we had, and we had a lot! The service was just as good, Shelly was our waitress and we really enjoyed her. She was attentive and really sweet. Cannot wait to go back there each time we visit Napa county!!
