They created a vegan meal for me by substituting ingredients from their menu.
Great but a little expensive for a burger ...
A great place!!!
Only had outdoor seating so we had to eat in bar
Had a hard time choosing an entree because everything is so good. Server was helpful in our decision making process. The whole experience was wonderful.the food prepared perfectly. We frequently just order one each of their appetizers. Save room for dessert.
We were on a tight schedule because we were late. We informed the wait staff and they served us quickly, with a smile and made it possible for us to get back on schedule. To a person, we said we will return.
In an area noted for wine, I appreciated the choice of cocktails. The food is all-round excellent, but what stood our were the "bar bites." Vietnamese pig ears - yum! And fried olives (who knew?!) with pistachios. Service was great. The place is a bit loud for my taste, but it is, after all, a gastro-pub. We'll definitely go back, next time we're in St Helena.
If the weather is nice, request to sit outside. The cheeseboard was excellent, the pasta dish I had was spicy (highly recommend it) but the take 5 candy bar dessert, it was AMAZING.
We had an amazing lunch experience here on a recent girls trip to Napa and Sonoma. Food was wonderful, cocktails were just what you would want to enjoy in this great outdoor area.
Love this place, especially the outdoor... have to bring mh friends here to let them enjoy this beautiful place
Food and service were excellent! Great atmosphere!
We probably hit a bad evening for the ambiance. It was a bit cold so customers were split between the garden and indoors.
Despite a good service the atmosphere felt like a funeral hall! I would not be so hard if the food had been better but this was not the case ! We started with the grilled octopus which was decent but there were much more potatoes than octopus ! Then we shared an oven grilled cauliflower. The name sounded attractive leading to an even bigger disappointment. It was cold and drowned in an indescribable sauce made of probably a mixed of sour cream and tabasco (the chef is Mexican...) . Finally we had 2 hamburgers... usually a safe dish in US but the bread was too hard and the meat too cooked. As usual in Napa valley the wine was good and probably saved the evening. I will definitively not go back.
They must have been short handed because three different people asked us if we wanted a cocktail. There was no music. The menu is limited and unimaginative. We concluded that we could do better elsewhere, and left before ordering anything.
Drinks are good (just way too much ice).
Food was not what I expected AT ALL, not worth drive from American Canyon.
Service is the only thing saving this place. Awesome customer service but kitchen took over an hour to get our food done, when I finally received my food, it was cold and with egg (which I didn't want).
Will not be going back or recommending this place for food.
Came for Mother's Day brunch and ate outside near the koi pond, underneath the heaters. Great atmosphere and attentive, friendly service. We liked the menu: the donuts/holes appetizer was tasty (wish we had more!), the charcuterie board was a nice starter, and my mom and I LOVED the french toast with quail. We didn't really like the dessert special (creme brulee with raspberry and chocolate), but the chocolate cake hit the spot and overall the meal was lovely. Thanks for a great brunch in St. Helena!
Loved this restaurant!! I recommend sitting outside on the patio. Wonderful cocktails and great food. We will be back for sure!
Great, cozy bar downstairs. Always like to start there. Sat outside for dinner with friends and love the ambiance. Food is always amazing. I get the burger and fries and the wine list is incredible. Great by the glass options too. Most importantly, our server Ben was superb! Excellent hospitality every time we come in.
This was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. The food was out of this world and so were the cocktails. The server was excellent and stuck the perfect balance between being attentive but not too intrusive. I will 100% be back here the next time I’m in Napa, it was an amazing experience!
Stopped in for lunch during a day of winery visits and did not disappoint. Mushroom soup was dee-lish-us!! All of us greatly enjoyed our meals of burger, fried chicken sandwich, cheese steak and a Cinco de Mayo chile rellenos special. Will definitely go there for dinner sometime soon.
Food just okay. Nice speciality cocktails and nice wine list. Meh.
Love this place, food and service are consistently good! Always a friendly staff and helpful in guiding us towards the best choices on the menu! The chargrilled octopus is delicious and the mushroom soup was outstanding!
We’ll be back for a repeat!!
We had 3 things: 1: chicken wings: best in the state. Seriously, get these. 2: risotto, was ok. 5 out of ten. We ate it all, but it wasnt mind blowing. Could have benefited from more spring veggies.
3: trifle, not bad either. Id try something else next time and im not going out of my way to recommend it to anyone. Other than that, place is beautiful, staff is on point, great service in a fabulous place
Fantastic evening with amazing food and ambiance.
My friend and I stopped to eat here after a day at the vineyards. It’s a beautiful, cozy little restaurant. The ambiance is great. However, the food, not so great. We started with the smoked corn Croquettes... which tasted like cheese whiz. Then we wanted something simple so we each ordered the black garlic Caesar salad with chicken breast on top. The salad was bitter. It was the worst Caesar salad I’ve ever had to date. The chicken breast on top, was not seasoned. It was tasteless. Absolutely NOT what a 24$ salad should be like. I wouldn’t have paid $5 for it. I sent it back.
The only thing i would ever return to this place for would be the drinks.
Best restaurant in St Helena CA. Very relaxed vibe. Extensive craft cocktail list offered in the downstairs bar. Ordered the pork chop entree and the mushroom pasta- both were excellent . shout out to"Jay" and "Chris" for was fantastic service- very personable and knowledgeable.
Beautiful setting, but I am not a fan of dog hair and there were at least three dogs at lunch and my wife’s eyes itched the rest of the day. The waitress obviously liked dogs and served food and petted them while serving. My wife’s cheeze steak sandwich was on hard to eat and tasted like Manwhich. The burgers were undeasoned and dry served on a bun that needed a serrated blade to cut and basically was inedible. Wouldn’t go back.
The open air setting was lovely although on a sunny day more sun umbrellas or shading would be appropriate. The food was underwhelming and over priced for the offering. I would not recommend this location for lunch.
Well if you want a great culinary, wine and service experience I highly recommend Goose & Gander! The mushroom soup is a 12/10! Thank you to the staff for a great evening! Oh and the bar downstairs for an after dinner drink was awesome! Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon served with a smile!
We don’t know what happened that evening, the hosts seemed disorganized, we showed up on time and waited for a while face to face w/ them w/o explaining what caused the delay, seemed like they didn’t see u, though the server was really good, the steak was hard , pork knda bloody? ..... wine selection? You need a magnifying glass to see them? .....though the dessert was okay! Maybe, they were just too busy? We’re not so sure about that! Anyway............??? Yes....thanks to the great server!
The menu was limited but everything sounded delicious. We started off with cocktails of course, and we highly recommend the Pear Shrub. Light and Refreshing to get you ready for the meal. We decided to go for an assortment of small plates. We ordered 5 and 4 of the 5 were delicious. The smoked corn croquettes were a bit disappointing. We didn't get much "smoke" but the dipping sauce was flavorful. I think it was just in comparison to the other offerings. The bone marrow was deliciously decadent. The cauliflower was divine, and the brussel sprouts were carmelized and the egg provided the sauce, and the octopus was great too. But the best dish was dessert a fried cake that was crispy on the outside and soft and unctuous on the inside served with a fruit compote. Wait staff was informative and helpful. Great experience and we will definitely go back.
Unfortunately, the meal was not as expected. The pork chop specialty is not really a pork chop at all but chop cut from the shoulder. It was fatty and grisly and under cooked. 4 portions in all and none were good. The manager did comp one of the meals. A duck breast was quite good, though.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice dinner without the feeling of being in an overly upscale atmosphere. This is not to say it is not a nice place. It is definitely a nice restaurant. However, it has a more homey and relaxed atmosphere. Food was good and service was superb!
The cocktails were good except one glass was returned twice because of things floating in it that did not belong there. The hamburger was quite nicely done as were the fries. The chicken wings were a real disappointment as they had a gummy coating and were not interesting or very tasty.
Goose and Gander was our favorite dining location on our trip to Napa Valley during an engagement and 5 year anniversary. We ate here twice on our 5 day trip due to disappointing dinners at other local restaurants. The chefs special was very creative and deliciously thought through. There was not a bite or sip of disappointment in the hand crafted recipes. We partook in the roasted chicken, the cauliflower, the mushroom linguini, and the 30 day dry rub rib eye soaked in burbon and duck fat. The staff were great about recommending drinks and even changed out a drink that was disliked without any question. The desserts were about the best part of the meal including the blueberry trifle and the salted strawberry shortcake. The ambiance was amazing both inside and outside. The outside is perfect for a date including string lights and a koi pond fountain that is fun to watch. The inside is a very cozy log cabin/gentleman’s library, perfect to snuggle up in.
Risotto was fantastic. Pigs ears disappointed. Other dishes good not great. Patio dining is superb.
Food was just ok. Kinda of a let down from the first time I went. Will not be returning, except maybe for drinks. Wine list is amazing.
I love everything about this restaurant...the bar, the dining area, the outside garden all have unique, yet cozy spaces for imbibing and dining. The new chef does an amazing job with the menu and has maintained some of the classics, like their mushroom soup. Artisan cocktails never disappoint and service is always solid and consistent. Definitely should be on your list for one of the best restaurants St. Helena has to offer.
We dined in a Thursday to celebrate our anniversary. I did not expect to have such a rushed meal:the waiter dropped by and took our order and then “boom”all of the food came out. Our waiter was acting like a server in a Denny’s: she was nice but seemed stressed out and rushed. And when apparently some friends came in behind us, she decided to focus on them. In the 5 minutes between our appetizer and main course, she asked if we wanted a drink. I said yes but please us a second to make up our mind. She never came back until mid-way through our main course and by then we had lost interest. Oh well, saved us some money.
The food was great and I’m glad we tried it. I would hate to go there at a peak time, it must be nuts. It seems like the restaurant’s policy is to fill tables even when they don’t have enough wait staff, that’s too bad. The restaurant lost about 50 bucks, so maybe they trade flipping tables for over all experience of the diner. Oh well, there are a lot of choices in the area.
Incredible service and great food, rock solid and a constant haunt.
