Had not visited in several years since an unfortumate kitchen problem had had a negative effect on what should have been a special occasion. This time, a superlative dining experience. Best food and wine pairings I've had since dining in Paris at a 2 star Michelin restaurant. Chef and somelier top notch. The new addition is wonderful. Light and airy but with great acoustics. Recommending it to all my friends and will be back.

Absolutely lovely. The building is beautiful to walk into. The dining-atrium has a real fireplace. The somm paired wines and food beautifully. Go! Enjoy!

The food was ok. The price was fair. The new "conservatory" has an open kitchen design so the noise of clattering dishes, running water and pots and pans was way too loud - not the intimate ambiance of the old Goodstone. Lastly, the service was simply outstanding from the waitress to the bartender to the "concierge." However due to overall assessment, the ok food and especially the noise, we will not be back anytime soon.

Beautiful surroundings, excellent menu. They accomodated my nut allergy very graciously and well. Started with tuna nicoise which was lovely but quite tasteless in spite of few olive crumbs. No seasoning or dressing on potatoes, will not order again. Husband loved his rabbit and pistachio terrine.
He had the beef with mushrooms, perfect! I loved my crisp skinned rockfish in an acitic delicious broth.
Great crusty bread and sweet butter. Thank you for not adding honey or salt or truffle to the butter!
Dessert was. a key lime. Heesecake and chocolate something for husband. We wanted to lick the plates!
Service good but wrong ordered delivered and wine not poured. Othwise we enjoyed our experience very much and will return

Big changes here for the lovely Goodstone Inn. If you haven't been here in a while you might want to come back to check it out. Renovations, new menu which is outstanding, professional and welcoming staff. Menu is interesting and appealing. Total experience is fantastic.

My wife and I have dined at the Goodstone several times. The food, service, and ambience have been excellent every time. The renovated dining room is wonderful - light and airy; more space between tables; cozy fireplace in the dining room; tasteful decor. Stephen, as always was the consummate sommelier, welcoming us back and advising on the right wine for our food. We had the striploin; the black truffle butter was a delicious complement!

Love the ambiance and the new addition for dining! Absolutely stunning! Love the drive through the countryside to get there. The food was wonderful, with a limited but outstanding menu and excellent wine list. Can't wait to go back! The maitre d' is a very friendly , knowledgeable and caring person.

I enjoyed the food on Saturday evening but I learned only yesterday when I reviewed my itemized bill that I was charged twice for a lemon (panacotta-style) dessert.

I don’t write reviews often, but this place deserves a great one. I experienced above and beyond service. The grounds are beautiful - if it’s not too dark, I recommend getting there early to walk around a bit, and after dinner, go upstairs to the bar to sit by the fire place. As far as food selection, I strongly recommend the duck breast if it’s on the menu. It’s pricey, but for my special occasion, it was memorable.

Dined here Friday 10/06 for our Anniversary. They have changed chefs and the food is definitely not what it used to be - the new addition is lovely, though if the weather is inclement those who cannot do stairs will have to walk outside to reach the restaurant. The soup was sent back by not only my husband but several other guests. The maitre'd was rude. We are very sorry to lose a place we have gone to for years to celebrate holidays and special occasions.

First time in their new downstairs dining room. Good size space and nice fire place. The sommelier, Stephen, is excellent! Fantastic craft cocktail and wine pairing throughout the dinner. The menu was small but I understand they were in the process of changing it. Still there was something for everyone.

I notified the restaurant via open table request and a phone call that we would be celebrating two important birthdays at dinner. I was very disappointed when nothing was done to make the dinner special. No candle in their dessert. Will not go back.

I have dined at the Goodstone Inn many times and have always had a fine experience. This time was no exception per se. However, unbeknownst to us, they have recently undergone a major reconstruction and the main dining room is now in a different location in the building. When we entered the restaurant from the front door of the building, there was nobody to greet us. The dining room was completely empty yet the tables were set, etc. so we figured other guests had not arrived yet. We waited about 5 minutes, and then I went to look for someone to escort us to our "reserved" table. Much to my surprise, the employee (who by the way was not exactly the friendliest) said, "oh our restaurant is downstairs now (like we were supposed to know this)." So she walked us down the steps to the newly constructed dining room. There was one other couple when we were seated. Needless to say, it was a bit odd. Four people in a huge dining space. anyway, we were seated at a corner table. Our server greeted us, and we inquired about what had happened to the restaurant. Our server explained the situation, and was very informative, etc. The food was excellent, service was great, but the room's temperature was very very cold; almost uncomfortable, but I dealt with it. We met the chef; very nice and hospitable. So one might ask, what's the downside? Well it's more of a suggestion. Even if the night we were there was Day 2 of the "soft" opening, there should have been some directional information on the door at the front of the building, or someone present to escort us. We had reservations, so frankly, someone should have been looking out for the guests. It was very disconcerting. We will return to Goodstone again, I'm sure. And, I am hoping that these kinks will be "fixed" over the next few weeks. And, we hope that the chef will expand the menu as there were only three entree choices -- none of which were vegetarian.

Small, intimate restaurant which explains why we had to book so far in advance. Well worth the wait! Menu was chef selection, so only a handful of starters, entrees, and deserts. Would have ordered everything on the menu if it were more than the two of us. A great culinary experience. Wine list is impressive and full of high quality wines.

A country inn and restaurant that is very welcoming, has excellent service, delicious food (I had a delicious halibut, preceded by a also delicious soup and a nice fresh salad and ending with a homemade strawberry shortcake. Splendid! Also a great bottle of wine. A not-inexpensive evening, but a wonderful one.

The Goodstone Inn is a very special place for us. The Estate grounds are picturesque. Staff are warm and welcoming. All of this would be irrelevant if the food were mediocre. Fortunately, the food is as spectacular as the surroundings, as is the wine list. How can you go wrong?

Definitely pricey... not a regular day place.

Spectacular service, and most of the food was outstanding, however the coating on our soft shell crabs was slightly burned, and it was a little pricey for the serving we got. Everything else was absolutely wonderful though.

My husband and I came to Goodstone with pretty high expectations. We'd heard great things from friends who had been there previously. Not sure if it was an off night but we both left very disappointed...by the food, service and ambiance. We weren't hungry enough to order the price fixe 4 course menu so we opted for the a la carte option and both ordered the striploin, then shared a cobbler for dessert. We waited almost an hour for the food to arrive, with the waitress rarely checking in. It was chilly in the restaurant and the lights could have been dimmed a bit. I was surprised...it was a Sat night bur fairly empty, even though there were no other openings when I made the reservation. When our steaks arrived the plates and the food was cold. While I had requested medium well my steak was so overcooked I could hardly cut through it with a steakknife (interestingly I noticed the woman at the next table who also got the steak check to see if she was using the sharp knife). My husband's request for medium rare ended up well done. We paid 54 dollars per steak which was just ridiculous. There was a smear of garlic mash under the beef (also cold) and a couple of cold carrots/beers on the side. We ended the night sharing a dessert which was fresh out of the oven (would have been nice if the waitress mentioned it was scalding hot). Much better than the steak but nothing to write home about. At the end of the day we made the best of it but certainly won't be returning. Our meals at the Salamander where we stayed and the Red Fox Inn were far superior. I usually don't post reviews but hopefully the restaurant decides to pay a bit more attention to all their customers in the future, even those who don't order the full menu and priciest wine.

At $45.00 per entree (ala carte) my Pheasant Breast was tasty but consisted of 2 ounces of meat. My husband had the soft shell crab entree and it was one crab on risotto. Portions were appetizer size with a hefty price. For that reason we will never return.

My wife and I decided to go to the Goodstone for Sunday brunch yesterday. We had not been in over a year. The food was excellent...my wife had the eggs benedict with homemade hollandais sauce and i had grilled salmon. Both were excellently prepared and delicious. For starters we had mussels in a tomato broth ...very tasty. They are building a larger dining room with glass walls and a nice view of the countryside so we are looking forward to that.

What a disappointment. We were celebrating my daughters birthday with extended family. I could deal with the service being sub par if the food made up for it. It did not. The steak was tough. The menu is also very limited - 4 entries only. We had also arranged with the staff that we were there for a birthday. They completely forget this until after our desert arrived and we reminded the staff about this.

Simply elegant & delicious. This is a quaint inn in the heart of Middleburg. Everything was amazing. Although this wasn't a special occasion for us, just a date night, it didn't disappoint and I left feeling somehow more calm, elevated and maybe a little more refined than when I arrived! It wasn't so stuffy however, that you felt uncomfortable. The Inn staff were friendly and the waiters impeccable.
I absolutely loved my meal and so did my husband. I had the rabbit and pheasant and my husband had the salad savoy and salmon - each meal and presentation were way above par! His salmon literally melted in his mouth - wow! We finished with an apple cobbler and it was to die for! Great service, great menu and outstanding atmosphere. It's about $100pp so if you expect that then go an enjoy!!! I can't wait to come back! Next time I'm going to book a room for the weekend too!

This restaurant is noted for gourmet, creative dining. The offerings on the menu looked promising, but nothing tasted special in any way. The kale salad (minus Parmesan) was simply a plate of kale with a light dressing, the lamb was well prepared, but tasteless. The accompanying sweet potatoes were dry and simply baked, the roasted brussel sprouts were large and tough. The only noteworthy part of the meal was the extremely high price for ordinary food.
Was all of this the result of the fact that the kitchen is being renovated and the chef is working out of a portable trailer?

While staying at Goodstone for two nights we had the pleasure of eating two breakfasts and two dinners in the dining room. The food, service, and choices were excellent. This restaurant more than met our expectations. I loved the food and the wine list. Next time we travel to Middleburg we plan on staying and dining again.
