Stayed at the Inn so we ate there two nights in a row. Food was great. The duck l’orange was our favorite followed by the pork chop.
One only celebrates a 50th Anniversary once and we were so pleased that we chose the Goldmoor Restaurant for our special occasion. We are two couples who live just across the Mississippi River in Peosta and Asbury, Iowa who both happened to get married April 20, 1968. We go out together every year to toast our anniversaries and picked this gem this year.
The food was perfect, the service great, and the ambiance outstanding. We sat near the window watching the train by the river, the horses in the pasture next door, and the sun setting to the west. The drive is a little daunting but even us old fogies made it back to Galena just fine. Thank you to our charming hosts. The evening was perfect.
Vacation with fiance!
Best Beef Wellington on the planet! Ambiance was awesome as was the service and server. Quiet and cozy booth overlooking both the river view and various active bird feeders! Fine meal and an outstanding Inn to stay at!!!
We found this gem on Tripadvisor and then checked it out on Open Table. Both have it right this is great place to dine. The owners were very interactive. Great bird watching. The beef wellington and pork chop were excellent choices for us.
Supurb atmosphere. Fine dining in a beautiful country setting. Great food and service. Perfect for intimate outings. Was a great find!
We had an extremely pleasant experience. The location by the water is unbeatable. The owner swung by and asked how we liked the food. The chef also came while we were about to eat our dessert. Overall top-notch customer service with delicious food. You can’t go wrong in whatever you order, it seems.
Wonderful dining experience. Weekend getaway with my daughter and found this Inn/Restaurant recommended on Trip Advisor. Did NOT disappoint! The property is beautiful! Looks like a castle!! The food was outstanding. Best crab cake I've ever had! The beef wellington was delicious! Desert (bread pudding) was moist and so flavorful! Very expensive but worth it for a special occasion.
Intimate with a beautiful view, incredible food and superb service!
Absolutely wonderful experience. We dined at the Chef's table located in the kitchen and had the pleasure of conversing with Chef Steven Super. What a fascinating man (and easy on the eyes too ladies ). I highly recommend this experience of the Chef's table. The food was nothing short of spectacular including cream of leek soup, filet mignon which was the best I have ever had! And crème brulee - I think I licked the bowl clean on that one - lol
Bread and honey lavender butter are on the table as well - yum!
The views from the Inn are breathtaking as well. The owner was equally as friendly and answered our never ending questions - thank you Slobo - you are more than kind!
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!!
Highly recommended and truly an enchanting evening.
Owners very personnel and took care of every detail.
We came at night so that was our mistake. Great service and delicious food.
Food was excellent. Cozy and romantic ambience. The view outside is of the forest with some bird feeders, very pretty in the snow
An outstanding experience in every way. I would recommend to anyone appreciating fine dining.
The Goldmoor is a classy yet quaint restaurant/inn tucked away in the rolling hills of the countryside south of Galena. Winding roads through the boondocks and a gated entrance lead you to a beautiful French-style four story inn flanked by two or three cozy cabins or “Irish cottages”. Quiet, elegant and inviting, the Goldmoor sits at a high elevation (relative to the area) and thus offers outstanding views to the west. We sat in the corner by the window and would have had excellent views but for the winter cloudiness. We did however see three cardinals fluttering around a bird feeder as the train rolled by down in the valley. The views and setting were impressive enough in late winter, but fall or summer would be the optimal time to visit.
The food was excellent, though I will offer a few constructive critiques. We ordered Caesar salads to start and they were served in a peculiar way with two chunks of lettuce crisscrossing. I admire the attempt at originality but for practicality this is not an enjoyable way to eat a salad, having to slice it forcefully with a knife, though this might make you eat slower it didn’t seem reasonable to me. I ordered the prime rib medium. It was a large piece of meat served with a tasty horseradish sauced. The steak was a bit tough but overall very good and a substantial cut of meat worth the $36. The asparagus and whipped potatoes were delicious. My girlfriend ordered the chef’s choice Chilean sea bass with rissoto which she thoroughly enjoyed. Also, a sizeable portion of meat. We shared a decent bottle of Malbec. My favorite dish was the creme brûlée that we ordered for dessert, the best I’ve ever had.
The owners I presume took turns greeting our table, first the woman and then the man, both fish German or Austrian accents. She told us about the view that improves during the warmer seasons and he mentioned a ski resort a little farther up the road.
Food was amazing. Wine was amazing. Some of best duck i ever had
The Goldmoor is a rare treat. We stayed for the weekend. Great location. Beautiful views. Charming/romantic rooms. The staff is uncommonly endearing. Including the owners Birgit and Slobo who spend much of there time personally making sure thier guests feel appreciated and content. The food was excellent. We left the weekend feeling eager to return to new friends.
The Goldmoor is an absolute gem! We were impressed by the gracious surroundings and the food was nothing short of marvelous. We started with an amazing scallop appetizer - with a butternut squash purée- superb! Also savored the house specialty Beef Wellington - fabulous flavor. Absolutely prime. We were lucky enough to spend a few minutes with proprietor- a charming experience learning of the romantic history of the beautiful property. 5 stars
Outstanding experience and impressive food. Unquestionably a gem and worth the drive.
Best meal I’ve ever had, amazing crab cake, steak was cooked to perfection, side dishes had immense flavor and the chicken Marsala was incredible.
Made reservations for a quiet celebration with my husband. As a special surprise for him, knowing he is a connoisseur of Beef Wellington prepared by our son and executive chef, we can confirm that our meals were beyond our expectations for attention to cooking methods and seasoning.....exceptionally fine meal without the Chicago prices! We shared this review with everyone at our hotel and look forward to returning for another memorable meal.
This was our second time dining at The Goldmoor and our friends first experience. We had highly recommended the restaurant and again, we were not disappointed. Beautiful dining atmosphere with gracious, friendly staff. As I mentioned to the owner, we will be back! It is definitely worth the drive whether you're staying in Galena or the Territory.
This is a beautiful spot but unfortunately the food did not measure up to the ambience. The first hint was terrible wine. A restaurant with bad wine is not going to do much else well either. I really wanted to like this place as the atmosphere and location are great, but the food not so much. And to top it off it was very expensive for the quality of the food and wine.
We had a great time celebrating our friends birthdays. A small birthday cake topped off a delicious meal. Great service and great food.
Ambience is very intimate and romantic, perfect for couples to share some quality time over exquisite dishes. Chef is awesome!
Loved the food, the chef was incredible, got to meet him and the owner and they were fantastic. Duck L’orange!
We were recommended here by the owner of The Farmer’s Guesthouse. Food was amazing, atmosphere was calm, staff was super friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We will be coming back again.
Went to this restaurant based on reviews. The food was delicious!!! The best risotto I have ever had, the appetizer of scallops and bacon were outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant. Quaint and wonderful food. On a date and the booth was nice and romantic, which I did request a booth based on pics I saw. Drove to Goldmoor at night, so could not appreciate the views. I will return for sure!
This place was amazing and worth the drive! Beef Wellington cooked to perfection! I will be back!
Amazing food!! Every bite was fantastic. We almost cancelled plans for next evening dinner just because we wanted to eat there again. Service superb.
The Goldmoor was a beautiful place, service was excellent and food was good. I would recommend this facility again.
Downside: I did call in ahead of time to notify it was our anniversary; they did nothing different in honor of our anniversary.
I stayed at the Goldmoor Inn for my wedding Anniversary and ate at the Goldmoor restaurant. The service was very good, the menu offers a good selection, the ambiance was nice and the food was excellent- we were pleasantly surprised. We ended up eating there both nights in town and enjoyed our meals including crab cakes, short ribs, chicken Marsala and Caesar salad. Highly recommend for a nice evening dinner in Galena.
We came into town for the weekend and tried several restaurants over our stay, and The Goldmoor was our favorite. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful (try the Blaum Hellfyre + Coke!), the steaks were top-notch, and the dessert was delicious (I had a soaked pear and it was incredible)!
Even though this restaurant and resort is about 15 minutes out of Galenta, the drive was definitely worth it. The restaurant is beautiful and the views are lovely. We both decided to try the house specialty which was Beef Wellington. The steak was perfectly done to our satisfaction. The starters were terrific. My husband had the Trio of Bruschetta which was a very large portion of perfectly done crostini with three different toppings. I had the Southern crabcake served with the creole sauce. The desserts looked great but we just settled for ice cream as we were completely satiated with the dinner. The alcholic drinks were very generous. Our server was very attentive but did not bother us while we were chatting. We highly recommend this restaurant and loo forward to going back again.
You won’t stumble across the Goldmoor unless someone sends you there, because it’s way out in the countryside of Galena. But oh my it’s worth the drive. Lovely bucolic setting, beautiful view of Mississippi River, county estate feel. We scored a table with a sunset view and watched the sun drop below the horizon - stunning. Those running the estate/hotel/restaurant were warm and welcoming and super attentive. Very comfy seating within a small number of tables makes this an intimate dining experience. After a glass of wine we moved on to a trio of bruschetta that were out of the ordinary and a highlight- balsamic fig and goat cheese, roasted pepper and white bean, salmon and capers. Yum! We had the pork chop and the beef Wellington, which is their signature dish and very well made. The beef was tender and perfectly cooked. Ample portions, we loved our meal and this place. Next time we will book a room!
We have eaten at this wonderful restaurant many times and have NEVER been disappointed!
Great food, staff, atmosphere. Would highly recommend when visiting the Galena area or, also, worth a special trip:-)
Loved it!!! Fabulous place to go, cant wait to go back, owners are wonderful!
There was a large party on the night we dined at the restaurant. The servers were very nice however running around. Ambiance was a bit hectic and stressful.
I ordered the Cesar Salad and the menu did not indicated that it was not cut and tossed. I received large pieces of lettuce with a side of Cesar dressing. I do not like to cut up and toss my own Cesar Salad at a nice restaurant. I would of preferred to have the menu provide added information. The salad took a long time to arrive. The waitress apologized several times.
Our food was well prepared but it also took a long time. They charged us $8.00 to share the Beef Wellington. We had the braised pear for desert and that was excellent.
I did ask the hostess if they did anything special for birthdays as it was my husbands birthday that day. I additionally indicated this on the comments of the open table reservation. The hostess said she would take care of it and make sure his birthday was acknowledged. We did not receive any acknowledgement of my husbands birthday from any of the restaurant staff.
Beautiful location and wonderful food. This is a great place for a special event.
