Golden Mast Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I always choose Golden Mast for a special night out. The bar area is cosy with a fireplace you can sit near in the winter months, and the view in spring summer is phenomenal, especially with a window seat. The staff is very professional and I can't recall ever having poor service. And finally, the food is excellent at a reasonable price, and has always been consistent as we often order some of the same entries. Can't wait for our next visit!
We consistently have an incredible experience at the Golden Mast on December 28th. Three friends enjoying dinner to celebrate the season. Drinks were great at the bar. Our table was next to the window. Our server, Amy, was excellent! Our meals were, as always, delicious, hot, presented well and a nice size serving.
We will continue to return to the Golden Mast. It is a special place for any occasion!
Although my review says I'd recommend this restaurant, I would do so with hesitation. We have enjoyed the Golden Mast brunch for many, many years. Whenever there is a special occasion, we choose the Golden Mast. Today, however, we were somewhat disappointed. First the positives: 1) I had requested a table near the window and was delighted to find that my request was honored. We had a beautiful table in the big dining room with a lovely view of the lake. 2) All the servers were very attentive, pleasant and efficient.
Our disappointment resulted from the following: First, two different pieces of our place setting were filthy--not dried on food particles, but actually greasy food as though the piece was not washed at all. The same thing happened with our creamer receptacle. It looked like it had been used for French dressing and never washed before pouring cream into it.
In addition, we experienced the longest line we've ever had in the made-to-order omelette and dessert stations. The chefs working there were calm and doing the best they could, but at one point there were 16 people in line;
Lastly, the selection of desserts was more limited than in the past. We only saw two ramekens of Creme Brulee and it was never replenished. (We were there at 11:00am, so they shouldn't have run out so early in the brunch service).
Hans was not there today so I was unable to voice my concern over the quality of the experience. Again, this has been our favorite brunch restaurant for many years, and I don't want to give up on it. I hope this was just an isolated incident.
Had a great family Thanksgiving here. We asked for-and got-a round table overlooking the lake. The family style traditional Thanksgiving dinner was as good as homemade! The 2 waiters were attentive, however, we had to act for several refills of the gravy boat! Overall, a great way to celebrate a holiday in a beautiful setting! We’ll be doing this again!
Our meal at the Golden Mast was, if not the Thanksgiving from hell, at best purgatory. We were seated right away but it took a good 15 min. before ANYONE checked in with us. Fortunately, water was already on the table. We were seated next to a boisterous table of 18-20 people, which made conversation very difficult at our round table of six. We finally had our food order taken after 30 min. of sitting, for the most part being ignored by wait staff. Our reservation was for 1pm. We got butter & bread baskets a good half hour later. The traditional Thanksgiving dinner which we ALL ordered (it was a limited menu for the holiday) came a few minutes before 2:30pm, and half of the family-style dishes were barely lukewarm. However, by then we were so hungry we ate some of it anyway! The cranberry relish was forgotten & never served at all. The desserts were nothing great; my mom said even the vanilla ice cream was ‘meh.’ My husband & father both saw a party of 10 seated *after* us being served their food within a half hour. No one offered to adjust the bill for the terrible treatment, though one of our two servers apologized & offered to prepare a container of cranberry relish to take home. We said no thanks!! The whole experience really ruined our family’s holiday. So odd, because we’d been there twice previously for very pleasant Mother’s Day buffets. But we will NOT be going back.
This was my first time and I was very happy with the choice. I am also glad to know it is a German restaurant. A bit pricey but that is to be expected with authentic foods. The location is perfect, right on the lake. In warmer weather there is outdoor seating options. We were seated in the balcony overlooking the lake. It was perfect. Food was excellent.
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. The weather was perfect & we had a table overlooking the lake. The meal was traditional with all our favorites. We enjoyed the "all you can eat" main course. We left satisfied but not stuffed.
The Golden Mast has always been one of our favorite restaurants. However, as we no longer live in the immediate area we don't get there often. We made a reservation for the Sunday brunch on November 12th which was to serve as our family "Thanksgiving Dinner" get together for our entire family before we headed off to Fl for a few weeks.
As usual The Golden Mast came thru for us and provided a great experience. First, you know a restaurant cares about its customers when the owner not only greets you when you walk in but also leads you to your table.
That greeting is followed up with a food selection which was fantastic and which was was prepared and presented wonderfully. Our server(s) were friendly, attentive and professional. All aspects of the meal were delicious, from the waffles and omletes to the main entre meat dishes, the shrimp, the sides, the champagne, and finally the deserts, everything was perfect.
Plus, you can't beat the beautiful restaurant itself and a view that is unsurpassed.
You know that when all of the grandkids are impressed and thank us for taking us to "the great restaurant", and our 10 year old granddaughter even said she wants to have her wedding reception there, the event was a success. Once again, our thanks to The Golden Mast and it's owner Hans Weissgerber for a great experience.
The bartender was especially helpful and mixed a special drink for my wife who prefers somewhat sweet crafted martinis (called tall, dark, and handsome (vodka, butterscotch schnaps, and dark crème de cacao). Dinner was not rushed and ample time allowed between courses.
We had six of us for our dinner on Sunday, October 29th to celebrate a 32nd wedding anniversary, and good friends. We were seated at a wonderful table overlooking the lake. We stopped at the bar prior to being seated and had drinks from a great bartender!
We didn't order appetizers, however, each had a delicious entree and we shared two desserts. The meals were fabulous with servings enough to take home leftovers. The walleye was moist and tasty. The wiener schnitzel was amazing. Dessert was excellent.
Our server was wonderful and checked in on us without distraction.
We will return frequently. Love it here. Thank you!
Our favorite Sunday brunch spot. Eggs Benedict with steak; mini bagels with lox, capers and cream cheese; and a dessert table that has a plethora of delights-- coupled with lakeside views, lovely ambience and outstanding service constitutes a big WOW.
Overall, we had a great experience and very good food. Service is always fantastic! I did get the wrong steak for my dinner, it seemed like I got someone else's steak since it was not only the wrong steak, but the wellness was much different than I had ordered. Being the main part of my meal, that was very disappointing, but not enough to ruin the evening. I didn't complain to the waitress, just ate my meal and thought the kitchen had just overcooked my steak. Everyone can make mistakes, right? But when we got our bill, I noticed we were overcharged for what I ordered and that's when I realized I probably got someone else's steak entirely. The waitress did very quickly correct our bill, but that didn't change the fact that I had to chew and chew on that overdone steak. I wish I had spoken up sooner, perhaps they would have gotten me a new steak done to my liking! Nevertheless, we will certainly dine here again. If you haven't tried the brunch, it is a must, you won't be sorry!
