We took our granddaughter to the Golden Mast for her 18th birthday, as she had never been there. We were able to get a table by a window overlooking the lake which was beautiful. Overall, everything was wonderful, our waitress was very efficient and cordial, but not overly friendly. I love the black raspberry lemonade, which our granddaughter had too and loved it. Our granddaughter always wants to try new things, so she had the Mushroom Ravioli and did not care for it. I thought the flavor was very good, but I'm not a fan of the different squashes that were in it. I had the special which was ribs and they were very tender and delicious. My husband had the wiener schnitzel which he always has at the Golden Mast and as usual, it did not disappoint. The salad is always so fresh and delicious, as is the bread. The waitress did bring our granddaughter Schaum Torte with a candle in it for her birthday and it was delicious. All in all, we will definitely go back, as we have never been disappointed.
Every year we come here for my wife’s birthday because she loves this place. However this year the service wasn’t the best. First the table we were seated at had crumbs all over my wife’s seat - we wiped them off no big deal. Then my wife’s spoon had old food stuck on it - I brought it up with the waitress and she didn’t even bring a new spoon out. Finally, it was my wife’s birthday which I mentioned when I booked the reservation on open table and called to confirm earlier in the day. Every year they bring out a birthday desert with a candle, this year nothing. To make things worst the table next to us has the birthday desert with a candle. The whole night we felt like we were the after thought to the larger group sitting next to us even though we were paying $50 a head for dinner. To their credit the food was excellent.
I would love to recommend this place but based on our recent experience I would not I did not have the greatest time at my recent visit in the past it was a great place this time my food was cold though they did take it back and warm it up then I had an awful experience with a drink it was refunded but I felt the whole night made me say I would never go back I did call to tell of experience but as of now not much was done to me change my mind to want to go back
From friendly staff to a beautiful atmosphere, not to mention the amazing food. Our visit was nothing short of 5 star
We love the Golden Mast for any occasion. This one was a birthday celebration and we ate in the bar and ordered from the main dining room menu. The view from a window table is fabulous. Braxton was our server and he was excellent. The food is always wonderful and portions are large. Usually enough to take home for leftovers!
We will return frequently!
Great food, great service
Food was great and Heather was so friendly!
Outstanding service, food and atmosphere. Especially enjoyed the beautiful view of Okauchee Lake.
The restaurant has old world charm. Very exciting menu with American and German favorites. The "small plate" menu was a surprise. Great atmosphere right on a beautiful lake...and a boat launch and dock on premises.
WE have been to Golden Mast many times over the years, and went to celebrate my daughter's birthday this time. It wasn't busy for a Sunday evening, yet took an hour to get our food from when we ordered. It just seems overpriced for the value. My baked potato was over cooked (seemed it had been sitting under a warmer for a long time), and our steaks were cooked to our order, but just lacking in flavor/seasoning. I don't feel you should have to order a side sauce for your steak to make it taste good. The waitress was fine/nice and did offer my daughter a birthday dessert when she found out it was her birthday, but it was after we had finalized our bill and my husband had gone outside. We had a prime window seat for dinner watching people bring in their boats, so at least that made the time pass. I don't know if we will return anytime soon given options for a great steak. Golden Mast can't be beat for the views, and I guess the location is built into their pricing. You can get a better steak elsewhere, but maybe not looking at water.
Golden Mast is a beautiful restaurant in a beautiful setting.
However, the service was poor: We waited 10 minutes to get menus, half an hour for appetizers, and our main course was served before the appetizers were completed.
The food was poor: the duck dry and overcooked, the fish poorly seasoned, the fish chowder under seasoned, the baked potato cold (the oven didn't have its heat on, according to the waitress.)
The ladies room was not well maintained: there was no soap in some of the dispensers and the hand swipe towel dispenser did not work
The woman at the front of the restaurant was dismissive of my comments.
Excellent food and service. We plan to return in the near future.
We were there celebrating my wife’s birthday. We had a table at the window which was Awesome! The food selections were great. We were very pleased with the choices we made. Our waiter Christopher did an excellent job. We will be coming back again.
The food was excellent, service was great! We ate out on the patio and took our time to enjoy the perfect weather. The Golden Mast is one time of my all time favorite restaurants! We will definitely visit again and again.
Ambiance great, service great
Food not great
I would have given an excellent except that there was arguing going on in the kitchen. We could hear it from our table. It took away from the excellent ambiance. We went on the 4th of July. The Golden Mast in an excellent place to watch the fireworks on Oaukachee Lake. The restaurant allows it's patrons to sit on their patio after dining to watch the show. The also have a more casual menu for the evening so it doesn't have to be pricey.
I would not recommend this place for the 4th of July. We both felt we were rushed through our dining experience.
Sat on patio and had a great time, enjoyed the music but would have liked it to be a little bit quieter so we could hear each other Food and drinks were great, will definitely go back.
We loved sitting out on the patio overlooking the gorgeous lake. The service was excellent but the appetizer, soup and drink fell short of what I was hoping for the price. With that said, the surf and turf was absolutely outstanding! The filet was perfectly seasoned and cooked. This whole main course was perfect.
This is an excellent restaurant. Always great. I'd tell everyone to eat here if they can afford it.
Beautiful setting on deck. Friendly atmosphere!
I made our reservation online with Open Table and it was confirmed. However at the restaurant we were not on their list. They went online to find our reservation and were able to seat us but it took about 20 minutes. This has happened to us before with Open Table reservations. It’s obvious that calling the restaurant directly is the better option when possible.
Awesome views and food.. great to be able to sit ouside
Excellent, as usual. Love the outdoor seating. Thank you.
Jeff and Jane Kowal
Excellent bar service and happy hour prices. 11 oz filet was spectacular as were all of our party's meals.
Will keep going back-thanks Hans and staff
It took forever to get dinner menus.
It took 1 hour 45 minutes from the time we arrived until our meal was served. The soup was lukewarm at best. Our food, when we finally received it, was good.
Never had better veal
Hans greeted us upon leaving asking about our dinner, never remember that ever happening in the past. Always means a great deal when owner is hands on
Thanks for a beautiful evening
Tuesday at the Golden Mast was not too busy, but on Wednesday they would have had entertainment.
Sauerbraten and Schnitzel were excellent.
We love the setting but the food is just so-so. Next time we'll just go for a drink and enjoy the view.
We changed to a table for four, and everyone enjoyed the Golden Mast. They make an excellent Seafood Chowder that no other restaurant has to compare. They also make s special dish for me.
Hi - Father's day dinner for two couples. Dropped a not-insignificant amount of money at least by my standards. My wife and Dad both ordered small tenderloins, both medium. My Dad's was cooked according to his request, but my wife's was medium well (no pink to be seen), and had several pieces of fat. Not very tenderloiny (if that's a word). Her garlic mashed potatoes contained no discernible garlic.
My shrimp and scallops were pretty good, although I guess I don't have comparables for reference.
On the plus side the drinks before dinner were strong.
It will be a while before we venture out for another $200 meal. By my reckoning that really good tenderloins, potatoes, garden salad fixin's and a couple of bottles of wine to feed at least 8 or 10.
Wonderful food. Wide array of menu items. Reminiscent of a supper club. Has a strong German feel although not many German food items. I love this place. So pretty on the water and warm atmosphere.
It has been awhile since I've dined here but this was a remind of why I come. Everything from start to finish was excellent. Greeted with a smile upon check-in, our waitress (Taylor) took great care of us and the food was delicious as usual. The desserts are out of this world. Our whole party each got something different so we could all share. Look forward to future visits.
Already reviewed but worth adding some thoughts....I've been dreaming of the melt-in-your-mouth NY strip and the freshly made bananas foster. The pasta station was visited by all family members. It was considered a highlight. The added touch of having Mr W himself seat us and stop by our table to tell us about Sunday family style brunch was icing on the cake.
Medium rare lamb was over cooked as was the crab. Surf and turf with crab and lamb rack is good idea though. View of the lake was nice from our window table. Seafood chowder was more potato than seafood.
Always a lovely meal and experience. Worth the drive. Only sad we did not get a window seat.
Overall very good except my wife’s chicken dish had a bad piece in it. Waitress promptly had kitchen make another one.
Everything was great! Happy hour, food, view and all!
