Golden Beetle - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
This was my third visit to Golden Beetle, and the first disappointing one.
The service was next to non-existent.
We watched several tables arrive after we were seated and before we were even offered water they'd ordered and been served their meals, AND we had a reservation!
The food was amazing as always when we finally got it, and the service did eventually improve. But it wasn't a great start to the evening.
We ordered several small plates and some entrees and each was a wonder and tasted great. We ordered more bread at the end so we could sop up the amazing sauces and get every last bit. We did, however, have a few special needs at our table and the server got at least two orders wrong--these were quickly and efficiently corrected, but notable if you're picky about your food or frustrated by servers who don't write things down.
I have visited The Golden Beetle on quite a few occasions. The food is always good and very interesting. And a great selection of wines. A good mix of ages of clients, which makes it comfortable. Staff is friendly and efficient. Noise level a little high, but I'm older and perhaps more sensitive. Definitely recommend the restaurant to others.
We celebrate 3 birthday's every year at a new restaurant and this was our choice this year. We all shared dishes and the servers were very happy to assist us with this. WE enjoyed the various dishes and were able to try more things that way. Your fresh pita is awesome.
We're all about small plates and love Eastern Mediterranean food, and Golden Beetle is spot on for both. Their spanakopita is no doubt the best I've ever had and they have a brilliant pomegranate dip that you just can't get enough of, the kibbeh is good too.
The only thing that could/should be improved is the pita bread, feels somewhat industrial and cardboardy, baking it in-house isn't that hard and makes a huge difference.
The bar seating is approxiamately half the restaurant. We had two under age children (18 and 16) and needed to sit in the actual restaurant part. A nice couple moved to the bar area so we could be seated in the restaurant area (THANK YOU) Our kids are adenturous eaters and enjoyed everything. The four of us shared the grilled cheese and beet salad which was exceptional (wish I had one to myself) and I refused to share my duck!! We had to wait a bit for dessert, but definitely worth the wait.
Unfortunately, the group table next to us had a great time partying and they were very LOUD!
The service was good and the food was excellent and memorable. The special thin sliced russet potato roll was light yet savory and beautifully plated. I love Tilth but, the GB atmosphere is more spacious, inviting, warm and contemporary. I hope that you'll always have a happy hour and small plates on the dinner menu during this economic downturn.
This restaurant has small and medium-sized plates described as Mediterranean food (with a chef with a good reputation for great, authentic food). We were disappointed with the lack of "innovation" in the food. Lamb meatballs were just "so so" and the pizza was just "ok". Spreads with pita were nice, but could be ordered at any other restaurant in town (Lola's, for example). Prices are too high for the lack of innovation in the food.
The food was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. There was nothing at the table (for 7) that I wouldn't have happily eaten! A birthday cake had been brought and stored in the kitchen at at just the right time the waitress brought it out to a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday. It was just perfect.
I've lived in Ballard for years, and had never tried the Golden Beetle. Recently a friend recommended the restaurant, so I chose it to celebrate my partner's birthday with his family. The entire experience was outstanding from start to finish. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Their suggestions were incredibly helpful in choosing from the many small plates they featured. Everything we chose was incredible (I know I'm using 'incredible a lot, but it really was). We had to hold back from licking the plates to get every last crumb. My only complaint is that I waited so long to experience this wonderful restaurant in my own back yard.
The food was so-so, the service was a little snarky, to be quite honest. I expected a bit more having had dinner at Tilth the night before. Also, the wild boar tagine that I went in for was no longer on the menu, which is a pet peeve. Keep your menu updated online. If you can't change the online menu, keep the item in stock until you can. The duck leg with orzo was the only choice I saw as similar and it was too much lemon or mustard and had a certain funk to it. Overall bad experience. There was a tip added on automatically for my party of 5. Not sure if that's customary, so be aware.
LOTS OF VERY VERY NICE SMALL PLATES, NOT OVER- PRICED, NICELY BUT NOT OVERLY ELABORATELY PRESENTED, CAREFULLY COOKED, NICELY PRESENTED. REALLY TASTY, TOO. GET THERE AT FIVE IF YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO HEAR YOUR TABLEMATES FOR A WHILE. YEAH I"M OLD! BUT THAT"S WHY I FOUND THE REVIEW IN THE AAA MAGAZINE!
Here is one of Seattle's outstanding restaurants in my opinion. Every dish brought the table on each occasion I dined there has been exceptional. And each has been an exciting dish either because of its preparation or its general goodness. I would eat there regularly if it were a closer to where I live. The falafel is I think the best in Seattle. I highly recommend this restaurant of true dedication to great exotic food. Don't miss the donuts!
The food was excellent. We liked the selection of small plates and ordered a variety. The service could have been more attentive; they were quite busy, and there are a lot of seats in the restaurant, so there were times when we didn't see our server for quite a while. Once they brought soup but no spoons.
We've been there twice this month; once with kids and once without. Our kids are good eaters and did okay. They enjoyed the pistachios (kid's favorite!), olives, cheese (our favorite!), and burger. But they were a bit bored. We've also had the kale, parsnip, tuna wrapped in grape leaves, tagine, spicy fries, and probably more. Everything was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and tasty. The tuna was a little fishy but its accompanying beans were great. The cocktails were fun, flavorful, and expertly made. Our new favorite place!
Excellent food at a great value! They do small plates well. The flavors are amazing and will satisfy your culinary curiosity - not to mention they're surprisingly filling. The service was excellent; everything was perfectly timed. I would definitely go there again.
Went for dinner with 5 friends. Poor acoutics and hard for us to talk to each other. Food is O.K., but not great. A weak and small portion version of refined middle eastern themed cooking. Ms. Hine's other restaurant, Tilth is far superior and a delight to dine at so this was quite dissappointing.
Seriously excellent food. They sell fairly inexpensive small plates, which is great for sharing and sampling many tastes. The restaurant was casual; service was slightly lacking compared to the excellent food, but nothing terrible. We spent around $70 /w tax+tip for 2 persons. I will be going back.
