40 minutes from ordering to salads served. One hour and 45 minutes and no entrees. No wonder other diners were leaving dissatisfied too. And there were only six tables with people. Oof! It is the complete antithesis of anything we’ve experienced in a dozen visits prior at Gold, whose praises we used to profusely sing. Maybe the chef or staff walked out? We’re just left to guessing and explaining to our 18 year old why his birthday dinner went from the disappointment of Gold to an ad-hoc grab-what-you-like shopping spree at Trader Joes. Thankfully the experience enabled us to advise dear friends to not book their upcoming celebration here. Pity. We envisioned an anniversary party here too. If stuff hita the fan - and they do in these crazy times, understandably — at least have the decency to inform your guests. That never happened. Somebody page Gordon Ramsay. Gold is now Pyrrite to us. We will not return.

    1. Gold is not open, and hasn’t been for a year, so had to eat in the bar. Too few wait staff, but our server was pleasant, if apologetic. But because of that, service was glacial. Steak was like shoe leather and tiny, and martinis were inconsistent, but salads were good. Manager said the menu in the bar was the same as Gold’s, but it wasn’t even close to the one online. They did give us free dessert, albeit inadequate, and a bottle of sparkling wine, which we took home with us. Stopped at Fry’s on the way home and bought ice cream because we didn’t get enough food at dinner. We had looked forward to a dinner at Gold, which had always been a wonderful experience in the past. But not last night. I don’t know why Open Table continues to take reservations for a closed restaurant.

Despite our 7:00 PM reservation we were kept waiting until almost 8:00 PM. The salad course had a tasteless dressing on the fruit and vegetable salad. The prime rib was okay, but we were told that only medium was available despite a request for medium rare. The dessert was really bad. It was the pumpkin pie ala mode. The crust was rock hard and a bit burnt. The pumpkin custard was very starchy. I don't think there was a pumpkin shortage in Tucson, but the thin pumpkin filling tasted as though there was one. The ice cream had large ice crystals, as though it had been thawed and refrozen slowly. We could have had a better pie by purchasing on at the local supermarket for $3.95. We will not be back.

Granted it was Thanksgiving, so maybe not at their best. Waited an hour after the reservation for a table. Food was basic hotel fare. Some items seemed taken straight from a buffet. Spent over $200, not even close to worth it. Given the great food in Tucson, I’d consider this a last resort.

The old adage, never go out to a restaurant on Christmas or Thanksgiving no matter how good their reputation may be. We made dinner reservations at 6pm. We were not promptly seated (to say the least). Once we were seated I noticed the room was rather quiet for a Holiday dinner. After around 10 minutes the hostess brought two glasses of water. Twenty minutes later the server shows up apologizing for the service being so slow and we overlooked the lag in the service possibly because of some kitchen issues. Now it's 6:30, ordered an iced tea and one of their endless mimosas & we were served two crostini which were pretty good. We never ordered the main entree from this first server who was overwhelmed by a party of six (not a good sign). Two salads came next just assuming we both wanted the same salad offerings without of course asking. At that point it is now 7pm and fortunately for us I was able to hail down another server and place the entree order. Next came the pureed squash soup with some facsimile of puff pastry placed on top of the soup. In all fairness, the soup was also pretty good with underlying flavors of nutmeg. Around 7:30 the entrees arrived (90 minutes after being seated). We both had the "adequate" boneless prime rib that was less than stellar in appearance and taste. The beverages ordered were haphazardly brought (two glasses of wine) to the table about 10 minutes after the entrees were served (catching my drift yet). The service continued to deteriorate throughout the meal. The apologies from the original server kept being repeated, nice gesture but she should consider another line of work. Finally the desert arrived around 8pm assuming we still had an appetite for more culinary delights. No coffee, no tea service offered. The tariff for the very unmemorable meal $79+ pp. Never again will I be subjected to a uncomfortable evening of great company and very middling fare. This should have never happened with the "stellar" reputation they enjoy.

We had breakfast on a Sunday before they set up for brunch. It was very quiet perhaps because it was the lull in between the two meal schedules. Eggs Benedict rancheros were wonderful and my friend’s omelette seem to be good too. It was a little too chilly to eat outside, but the view looked very pretty. The prices seemed in line with most hotel dining rooms.

We took our good friends for a special evening as we had sold our house & we’re moving. Gold is a favorite of ours. Arriving is always a treat as it is hidden away off of Ina and cannot be seen from either Ina or Oracle. Service was wonderful and friendly. The menu is amazing and fresh. Portions are just right. Interesting appetizers, not the run of the mill. I highly recommend GOLD.

Our anniversary, excepted the food to be better for the price paid. It was good, we had better value at other local restaurants. Host was nice and friendly, however our server was lacking. We had to ask her name and she didn't seem like she wanted to be there, friendly and nice often, though.

Valentines Day. Special menu, four courses. Great lobster bisque, LIGHT! With lots of lobster. Scallops terrific, seared perfectly. Service a little too fast. Generous with the included Prosecco. Ingredients first rate, out of chefs garden. Best tasting olive oil for dipping bread I’ve ever had. Plain, fruity, quality. I would have preferred to order off menu as too much food but very nice over all and beautiful view of city lights.

Special Valentine’s menu - fixed price menu with. Food was very good - especially the onion soup which is on their regular menu. I had scallops and husband had chateaubriand. Only complaint was too much potato but flavor was excellent. Supposed to get chocolate covered strawberries at the end but we weren’t given any - didn’t push it cuz we were so full.

Our server was very knowledgeable about the wine list and the preparation of the food. Great "Garden Salad" for two and the rest of the meal was quite wonderful. Certain to return!

Our waitress Megan was awesome. The food was very good. I had the eggplant lasagna which the veggies and spices were perfectly blended. I would definitely order it again. My wife had the ribeye steak. She ordered it med rare and it was perfectly cooked. They had two breads, one was a fresh sourdough garlic and the other a rosemary with whipped herb butter. Mmmmm The only issue we had with the food was our dessert creme brûlée. It was overcooked and the carmelized top was slightly burnt on one side. They did take it off our bill and offered us something different. But we really were too full anyway. The rating for the atmosphere/ambience was poor because we had a beautiful table on the patio for an evening dinner. The city lights and the early evening sunset kissed sky was breathtaking BUT throughout our dinner staff cut thru patio area moving carts that made very loud noises on the pebbled floor. Not just once but many times. Apparently they also had a banquet of some kind in one of the ballroom area and took food over on tall wheeled racks. And then brought dirty dishes etc. back. It was awful.

This is not our first visit to Gold. We try to come at least two or three times a year. It is worth the trip from where we live. The food is always prepared properly and the presentation is always top notch. The one thing we did notice is that the wine list has become a little pricy. We know a lot of wines and their retail prices. The markup seems a little out of line for a lot of them. I think there needs to be an adjustment made and a lot more wines need to be presented that don't make me take out a second mortgage to drink them.

We went to GOLD for dinner and to celebrate our 51st anniversary. We have been there before and the return visit was every bit as special as the first time. It is a bit pricey for the average every day eating out dinner, but so worth every dollar and every bite for the special times out. The cocktails, wine, and after dinner drinks are delicious. The steaks literally melt in your mouth and are cooked to perfection. Dessert was very different and delicious, as was the perfectly seasoned beef and barley soup starters. Very clean and comfortable. Friendly and professional service staff that are very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. Will definitely be returning here.

We return because it is one restaurant in Tucson where we don't have to yell to hear each other talk. The food is hit and miss: one visit, the chicken was delicious; this visit, it was scrawny and dry. Friend's lamb was perfect; my salmon was overcooked. Really wish we could love the food.
