Gnocchi Ratings and Reviews
We showed up with a reservation for 10 on a Saturday night, which we had also confirmed the day before, and we're basically told our table had been given away because another reservation had shown up with more people than expected. There were also two other large parties with reservations at the same time as us that were told the same thing. The lady in charge that night was extremely rude in dealing with us and dealt with the whole situation VERY poorly. Even worse was that it was a byob so we had all already bought bottles of wine that basically went to waste at that point. Luckily we were able to walk down the street to Nomad and get a table where we were treated like actual customers. Needless to say we will not be coming back or recommending this restaurant.
Horrible customer service experience. Didn’t even get a chance to try the food because upon arrival, we were told that they would not be honoring our reservation. The excuse I was given was that, due to the Super Bowl falling on this weekend, there was a much larger population in the city on this particular weekend and that every reservation showed up with extra people. Let me remind you that the Super Bowl was held in Minnesota, not Philly. So, instead of honoring reservations that had already been booked previously, they decided to just allow people to bring extra people with them to their reservations. I was told “There is nothing I can do about it” and that “this was not my problem”. My girlfriend was also told that one of the reservations that was originally booked “brought an extra 10 people with them” and that the owner/hostess was “threatened to be beaten up” by the person who made the reservation if they didn’t accommodate their extra people. This same person also thought it was a good idea to get in my girlfriend’s face, insinuating a physically altercation was going to take place. Thankfully it did not get to that point, but I feel it is important to relay this type of behavior to others. This is all after I confirmed my reservation with the restaurant two days in advance. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone if it was the last restaurant in Philly based on the way the owner spoke to both myself and my girlfriend when all we wanted was a simple explanation as to why they would not honor our reservation and would allow other reservations to just bring extra people in with them. I guess they have a different understanding of “reservation” than the rest of the world and the fine people over at OpenTable.
We ordered "Chef's Table". Great value at $50 per person. Delicious selections. Great Chef who is very hands on and friendly. Great atmosphere but gets really loud later. The Gnocchi special with blush sauce melted in your mouth. Highly recommend this restaurant.
We went with a large group, there were 8 of us. The food exceeded our expectations and the service was outstanding. The atmosphere was casual and very cozy but the staff made the experience even more comfortable. We found the place by chance but I plan to visit this place again the next time that I am in Philly.
I love Gnocci because the owners and the staff make us feel at home. It's like visiting a favorite relative. It's a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. The servers are great. They know the menu and they're so accommodating. The owners and the servers cater to the customers, making sure you enjoy the food and the experience. The food is delicious, imaginative and abundant.
The food was delicious and the staff was very accommodating. My only complaint would be that the staff locked our party into a fixed menu pricing upon our arrival at the restaurant (without informing us of this decision when we made the reservation). The staff was otherwise very helpful but we paid $50 a person for a fixed menu dinner. Food tasted great
They don't accept credit cards, but no sign notifying customers of this. Server was very hasty with, "Can I take this?" as I was getting cash ready (after I ran to ATM next door) - wish she were as hasty during the previous :15 minutes we were ignored while new customers were served. Server gave us a mom look when we said we were finished with mussels and there were a few left on plate - we didn't appreciate being shamed by her, especially when they smelled mildly off. Boyfriend didn't care for his fish and had to repeat his diplomatic response of, "It's just not for me" when pressed for a reason. I'll give them points for working on Thanksgiving weekend, but the food wasn't good enough to make me go back. Jerusalem artichokes were noteworthy.
The wait staff at Gnocchi are incredible! When we were there most recently there was a large, incredibly noisy and rude group. The staff managed to respond to many demands and still be friendly and helpful to our small group. It seemed like a heroic effort!
Prices are steep, and they don't take credit cards. Should be more competitive don't you think? Linguini with clams had very few clams and was $22. Service was very slow and a basic appetizer with 4 meatballs and broccoli rabe was $15. La Buca is a much better value.
