Glowbal Ratings and Reviews
Food was very good, but not amazing. Portion sizes good. Cost was not inexpensive, but not to bad. Ambiance was great; contemporary urban, butvery relaxing. Service were great; fun + present, but not intrusive.
I’d recommendit for a nice evening with friends.
Because my friend and I enjoyed ourselves so much, I took two other friends there for lunch today. We did not have a reservation but the staff set-up a table for us! We all enjoyed the meal.
Note regarding the above list: the only time there is a possible 'quiet conversation' moment is when the crown has left! Also, not sure what Paleo-Friendly is.
I will definitely visit Glowbal again.
Had our choice of tables which we appreciated the hostess taking the time to show us. Water glasses put on table while we were seated but eventually had to ask for water. Server never asked if we wanted drinks - coffee or otherwise. It wasn’t until we heard the customers at the next table talking about ordering caesars and saw them using a folded card describing caesars so asked server for the same card and we ordered caesars at that point. Coffee cups taken from table. Meals came before we got our drinks and all three were cold. Still can’t figure out how they could be cold as they came in a timely manner after placing order. Two of us ordered the exact same meal but one came with 2 potatoes and the other 4 potatoes - all the same size so it wasn’t a matter of making up for smaller potatoes. Had to ask for pepper as were never asked if we wanted any. Seemed there wasn’t any flow with service and we had to wait for the server to pass by our table to ask for what was missing. Very, very noisy. Certainly didn’t live up to so many of the positive reviews I read and the high end restaurant I thought it would be.
While food was excellent, service was very poor. After we were seated, our server ignored our table, we waited approx. 20mins before she took our order. Meanwhile she took the order of a table in our area seated after us. We had to repeatedly ask for water and coffee throughout our meal. We raised our arms, but appeared that she was avoiding eye contact with our table. She did not check our table if we needed anything. Our area had 3 - 4 servers working during our meal. When our kids' juice order arrived, our server poured the juice directly from an Oasis carton, rather from a carafe ! Now we know Glowbal's juices are not freshly squeezed. Great food and ambience, but very poor service. The service staff needs more training.
It was a Wednesday night before a concert at the Orpheum and unfortunately the 5 of us were seated at a table next to a very loud Christmas Party reception. It was next to impossible for us to talk unless we shouted. The food was good though as was the service.
Came here for a girl’s night dinner, we were seated next to a large party which made the noise level pretty unbearable at certain points. The restaurant was very busy so we weren’t seated until 20 minutes past our reservation. Service was nonexistent, it took 30 minutes for me to flag my server down to get the bill while watching her socialize at the bar with her coworkers. Took another 15 for someone to come by with the machine to run the payment. Nice ambience, mediocre food and atrocious service if you’re not with a large party, there’s better restaurants out there. I would only return if it was for a corporate dinner because the servers at least pay attention to you then. Otherwise I wouldn’t come here again based on the lack of attention given.
We have been to Glowbal previously on a number of occasions and enjoyed the experience and food. This time was extremely disappointing. We had made a reservation and were surprised when we found we were seated on the patio. First, the table leg had to be worked on in order to stop the table from wobbling when touched at all. The area we were sat was cold and quite dark. When we indicated that we were very cold, we were offered blankets rather than a move indoors and they had to find a heater that was working to move near our table. The waiter brought out a box of different steaks to show us (not certain why) and proceeded to advise us incorrectly which were which. The service throughout was disappointing at best. With the many restaurant choices in downtown Vancouver, Glowbal won't be on our list in the near future.
We ordered the usual Mussel, raw oysters, calamari, chowder, salad, drinks, coffee and deserts. The presentation of oysters didn't look that fresh and it was unfortunately that one person in group experienced bad oysters twice, the smell was bad. He had to run to the washroom to rinse...we gave him lemons to rinse out the taste.
When we gave the plate to our server, he quickly took it away and replaced the 2 pc for us. Excellent service. After this experience, they do not feel safe to eat raw oysters from Glowbal again.
We went here for my birthday last Frida,it was one of the best places we have been to in Vancouver so far and we have tried a lot and I myself am very picky so that being said the food was delicious the drinks were amazing and the service was great it was very fancy yet cozy very comfortable,so many options on the menu I had the truffle spaghetti and meatballs my bf had the lamb shank they were both so good and well presented and big portions.we will definitely be going back.
When we arrived, we advised our server that we had to be out in an hour and ten minutes. Four minutes after we sat down we ordered a bottle of wine and our appetizer and dinner. Within 5 minutes we had our appetizers. Still no wine. That came ten minutes later. I advised both the person who brought our salads and the Manager who brought our wine that things were moving way too fast. Well, within twenty minutes of ordering we had finished our salads and our main course. Wow! I’ve waited longer to get a coffee from Starbucks!! The Manager did offer to buy us dessert. However, I don’t think we will be going back to this place.
This is our 2nd time at Glowbal and we were less than impressed this time. Value for money and food quality was dissapointing for a flagship restaurant of this group. The wine list was good and the service was great. The staff did the best with what they had. All 3 wine glasses at the table were dirty and caked with lipstick around the rims. My seafood carbonara was bland and very dry, not to mention very skimpy on the seafood, and the chopped salad was wilted and lacklustre. The sablefish was good though but my tablemate's papradelle was also bland. This used to be a good stop off for dinner before or after the theatre, but we will pick somewhere else next time. Too bad.
A variety of experiences because of the different rooms and levels. If you want a quieter romantic night, reserve the fireplace room. If you want a funky spot with louder music reserve the purple couch room. There is also upstairs dining but I didn't go up there so can't comment.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Glowbal on Saturday - we arrived near the end of Happy Hour, so were able to enjoy some cocktails and appetizers at great prices. The short ribs and calamari in particular were awesome. Our entrees were awesome (lamb, pasta, salad and salmon), and desserts were phenomenal (crème brule and caramel bread pudding). Would highly recommend and can't wait to go again! Perfect pre-theatre meal, within walking distance of Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
Walked by on the way to a pub. Decided to look them up for Happy Hour and went back! Glad we did. Great lounge area, fabulous cocktails and great happy hour food menu. While it wasn't very loud while we were there, as the place fills up, I can see it getting noisy. Very attentive staff, great bar and good people watching! Enjoy
I had a reservation and it took them 15 minutes to take me to my table. The hostesses weren't friendly, the server was.
It was extremely loud, the music and the people made it feel more like a bar than a restaurant to enjoy dinner. Not recommended for a date.
It took them a really long time to serve dessert.
There were 6 of us there for a business lunch. It was a bit loud but not so that we could not hear each other. There were lots of choices for the lunch menu, a little pricey but very tasty! A couple of us chose the Prawn and Scallop Carbonera, it did not disappoint. The dessert's all looked delicious but I could not resist the chocolate cake with the vanilla gelato....lets just say I did not share!! Overall great service, very attentive and the food came out quickly. I am sure I will go back!
