Globe Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We went to Globe Bistro to celebrate my birthday and Valentine's Day.
Their special 3-course menu had options to please everyone in the family. Personalized service, refined foods and attention to details were remarkable.
Thanks to Ed and his team for memorable evening!
We absolutely loved each of our 3-course Prix Fix Valentines Dinner. Even surprised with an Amuse Bouche and a very fresh, very perfect single red rose. What could have been better - not a thing!
We thought that we have "discovered" a new resto - but its been there for 11 years. And now I know why!
We went for Winterlicious and there were good options. Half price wine on Sundays makes it an even better deal. Really excellent apps and desert, tasty mains and good service. There was even complimentary bread with the Winterlicious menu (some place don't offer this). Not on Winterlicious, you'll often get an amuse-bouche included.
Went for brunch. Very creative menu with very reasonable prices. A lovely place to go, friendly staff. Really, everything you would want especially for brunch in Toronto which can be hectic overcrowded overpriced. This was none of that but a great experience.
Needless to say the food was excellent and plentiful in addition to being creative!
Table position was bad. Right in the path of servers. The odd one on the main floor in the back room. Ver non intimate.
Entre arrived late. Steak was too difficult to chew . Had to spit it out after each bite. My date’s lamb shank was over cooked.
We enjoyed the wine and our server was great.
We hadn’t been to Globe for over 6 years. The last time we were there we were disappointed in the food and the service. This time we were pleasantly surprised. The food was delicious and it was presented in a very creative way. I also think that we had excellent service. We will go back again for sure
We went here for Winterlicious and one of the reasons I chose this, was because of the local sourcing for the menu. We enjoyed the wine, the starters and the main dishes, but neither of us cared much for the desserts. If you are really hungry, you may find the servings small, but they were good for us. I had the albacore tuna and my partner had the mushroom starters. For mains I had the steak and my partner had fish (both well cooked and presented). Dessert I had the pumpkin cheesecake and my partner had the chocolate mousse. They did not go to waste, but neither of us would order them again, no wow factor at all. The service was fast and friendly and we would definitely go again and recommend :-)
Winterlicious 2018 - Returned after a year! We were put literally at the BACK of the restaurant against the wall in a corner (the restaurant was maybe 1/3 full, not sure why we had to be seated all the way in the back). The table adjacent to us was talking so loud, it was very distracting and lowered the overall experience. Honestly, I should've asked to be seated in the front area with the cushioned comfy seating. Service is STILL slow, one year on, nothing's changed there... What's more ridiculous is the fact that we noticed the table who sat and ordered AFTER us had their mains served about 15 minutes BEFORE ours. We sat idly looking around because we were starving. When we asked our server if he could check on our food, he only respended with "oh it should be coming out shortly". No apology, no effort made to actually go check it! Our server also took 10 minutes to come back with my hot water and extra bread. Near the end, he altogether disappeared for a good while when we were looking to get the bill (our paid parking at this time was already 10 minutes overdue) and we were just hoping to pay quickly and leave. Normally we can be in and out of a restaurant within 1 hour - this time it took an additional 30 minutes. The only redeeming feature of this visit was the food!
Based on previous experience at Globe Bistro I would give this restaurant 5 stars across the board. That would be mainly because the beautiful main dining space creates a wonderful atmosphere. On this night however we were forced to sit in the entrance space opposite the bar. Not the same experience at all. Disappointing given we had invited friends from out of town and promised an elegant evening. The food was exquisite as always. Creative ingredients, well prepared and beautifully presented. The wine list has something for all tastes and budgets. I’m undecided about returning. Without assurance of dining in the main space I would not.
Went for Sunday brunch. While our server was very attentive, it appeared that the kitchen was either very backed up (or very slow). From ordering basic brunch items to receiving any food was 30+ minutes. They were very apologetic, and did not charge for a couple of items. Note that we have been there often and this was a first, so not a good day in the kitchen.
New Year's Eve Dinner - had a wonderful time, food was very, very good, staff friendly and courteous, trio was brilliant and if you wanted to dance you could. Wouldn't have missed this evening for the world. The owner even gets up and belts out a song! The Globe's Sunday brunch is spectacular also, just book in advance.
Thank you and Happy New Year.
Very disappointed. Heard good things. Took clients there for Christmas dinner. Food was ok. Service was ok. I recognize it was busy but i think our server knew he would get his 18% gratuity because of the size of the group and did not come by much. Food was ok. Most was cold by the time it got to the table. My lasagna felt like it was out of a box and reheated in a microwave (when the outside is hot and inside is cold) and For 16$ i would expect more then 3 scallops on a plate. I had reservations for New Years eve because i wanted to take my husband and will be cancelling. Nothing taste bad, it was just disappointing for the price and given what i had heard
Food service and decor were first class. Pricey but worth it for a special occasion. Only negative is that the reservation clearly indicated that we were there to celebrate a birthday and that was not acknowledged by staff or kitchen at dessert time. Otherwise definitely a place to come back to for special occasions.
Lovely tasting menu. The soup, the parade of intermezzo dishes, and the entree were delightful, and I enjoyed the wine pairings. Our server was exceedingly attentive and professional, and even helped us to put on our coats at the end of the evening. Unfortunately, some imbecile who was raised in a barn insisted on playing their harmonica in the dining room - loudly, and for stretches as long as 40 seconds - totally destroying the ambience and conversation. Likewise, none of this degenerate's confederates said anything to deter him. I will likely regret this until the day I die, but I did not want to cause a scene and so I did not walk over to the table and shout at this person. Sadly, neither did the staff.
It's always tough to know how to react in difficult and weird one off situations, so I do not blame the restaurant, but instead of the delicate spice and cream of the sticky toffee pudding, my strongest memory of my night at globe is wishing to walk upstairs, take the harmonica, and smash it under my feet. That's a shame, because it seems like Globe is a well run institution with food that is worth your dollar. Hopefully you are lucky enough to experience that without the harmonica.
Went for weekend brunch with a group of four. Good service manners, although they could use another server at times to spread the work load. Menu is standard with only a couple of inventive dishes such as the Vietnamese style eggs Benedict and pork served seven ways. Although we had a decent experience, there are plenty of other brunch spots in Toronto with more to offer so we won’t be coming back unless they change up the menu significantly. Also disappointed that they don’t actually offer freshly-squeezed juice, despite their advertisement on the menu.
We met at globe bistro w friends before a concert. we all had the prefix menu. The server tried a bit too hard (e.g. lots of superlatives) but really that's just our opinion - others might enjoy very attentive servers. The food was wonderful - we all ordered the steak frites - the fries were so delish and the steaks were cooked perfectly. Since we did the fixed, two course menu we were in and out quickly which is what you would want when you're going to a concert afterwards. It was a great venue to visit w friends- very warm and inviting. We would definitely visit Globe Bistro again.
