Globe Bistro Ratings and Reviews
New Year's Eve Dinner - had a wonderful time, food was very, very good, staff friendly and courteous, trio was brilliant and if you wanted to dance you could. Wouldn't have missed this evening for the world. The owner even gets up and belts out a song! The Globe's Sunday brunch is spectacular also, just book in advance.
Thank you and Happy New Year.
Very disappointed. Heard good things. Took clients there for Christmas dinner. Food was ok. Service was ok. I recognize it was busy but i think our server knew he would get his 18% gratuity because of the size of the group and did not come by much. Food was ok. Most was cold by the time it got to the table. My lasagna felt like it was out of a box and reheated in a microwave (when the outside is hot and inside is cold) and For 16$ i would expect more then 3 scallops on a plate. I had reservations for New Years eve because i wanted to take my husband and will be cancelling. Nothing taste bad, it was just disappointing for the price and given what i had heard
Food service and decor were first class. Pricey but worth it for a special occasion. Only negative is that the reservation clearly indicated that we were there to celebrate a birthday and that was not acknowledged by staff or kitchen at dessert time. Otherwise definitely a place to come back to for special occasions.
Lovely tasting menu. The soup, the parade of intermezzo dishes, and the entree were delightful, and I enjoyed the wine pairings. Our server was exceedingly attentive and professional, and even helped us to put on our coats at the end of the evening. Unfortunately, some imbecile who was raised in a barn insisted on playing their harmonica in the dining room - loudly, and for stretches as long as 40 seconds - totally destroying the ambience and conversation. Likewise, none of this degenerate's confederates said anything to deter him. I will likely regret this until the day I die, but I did not want to cause a scene and so I did not walk over to the table and shout at this person. Sadly, neither did the staff.
It's always tough to know how to react in difficult and weird one off situations, so I do not blame the restaurant, but instead of the delicate spice and cream of the sticky toffee pudding, my strongest memory of my night at globe is wishing to walk upstairs, take the harmonica, and smash it under my feet. That's a shame, because it seems like Globe is a well run institution with food that is worth your dollar. Hopefully you are lucky enough to experience that without the harmonica.
Went for weekend brunch with a group of four. Good service manners, although they could use another server at times to spread the work load. Menu is standard with only a couple of inventive dishes such as the Vietnamese style eggs Benedict and pork served seven ways. Although we had a decent experience, there are plenty of other brunch spots in Toronto with more to offer so we won’t be coming back unless they change up the menu significantly. Also disappointed that they don’t actually offer freshly-squeezed juice, despite their advertisement on the menu.
We met at globe bistro w friends before a concert. we all had the prefix menu. The server tried a bit too hard (e.g. lots of superlatives) but really that's just our opinion - others might enjoy very attentive servers. The food was wonderful - we all ordered the steak frites - the fries were so delish and the steaks were cooked perfectly. Since we did the fixed, two course menu we were in and out quickly which is what you would want when you're going to a concert afterwards. It was a great venue to visit w friends- very warm and inviting. We would definitely visit Globe Bistro again.
We were visiting my daughter who lives outside of Toronto during our American Thanksgiving. The occasion was also my daughters 26th birthday. The fixed menu for the American Thanksgiving was absolutely the best of the best. We are foodies and the chef prepared a beautiful, tasty gourmet 3 course meal. There were delicious choices to pick from all three courses. The turkey was so moist, presentation beautiful and the savory taste of all our food was exceptional. My daughter, a wheat free vegan was happily accommodated. Our server, gosh... I wish I could remember his name, was one of the most engaging and up beat servers I have ever dined with. Kudos to this restaurant and a special thank you to our sever. The next time I am in Toronto, I will be back for a dinner off of their main menu. Check out the web site! The food looks and tastes exceptional.
It had been 3-4 years since my last visit to Globe. It was always good. There are just so many small great places to eat now in the East end of Toronto. Well....these guys have truly raised the bar.....great service....great room...and a very cool Taste of Canada menu.
There were 4 of us..... we all ate different meals and were truly very happy with our plates
The Pickerel The Duck and the Pheasant Ravioli were the hi lights
Been on our tdl for a long time and did not disappoint. Amazing local and Canadian product presented in delicious, creative and healthy ways. Beautiful room too. Almost perfect wine list with primarily Canadian rep with a nice selection of international too. Half price bottles on Sunday?! Count me in! Vaskar was great in service and the whole team was seamless. Half full on Friday night? Come on TO, this is a gem!! A nice mid range price point which translates to phenomenal value. A return visit is automatic, preferably with out of towners.
Our brunch was disappointing, the restaurant messed up the reservation and then indicated it was our mistake when it was not. We waited over and hour and half for our meal to come. Then the food wasn’t that good, drinks took forever, and some dishes were cold then they finally arrived. Overall it was just not what we had experienced before, it was just bad service and not good food.
The places was very busy for a Saturday night. We did the tasting menu with a travelzoo deal. The value for money was ok with the discount, but I normal would be too much.
A good effort to bring creative dishes. We enjoyed the amuse bouche and pork belly. The remaining dishes didn't particularly stand out.
Generally the staff were nice and made an effort to explain dishes.
The ambiance is upscale. Modern art. A bit too dark for my taste difficult to read the menu.
Food is very fresh and flavorful. Not too much selection although you can find something in all categories. Before you dine at Globe Bistro best to have all guests check the menu ahead .
Overall very good experience. I will dine here again.
Food tastes great, wonderful presentation and flavorful. The service is attentive. Portions/ value for what you pay low. Came in hungry left slightly less hungry, still hungry though. Went for meal after this meal. Appetizer (scallops) + entree (steak/frites) snack size portions.
Attended Thanksgiving and although I have been here before, I have not tried one of your price fixe menus. We all tasted everything and other than the very tiny salad, the hot was hot and the cold was cold (as it should be) and the presentation was good. Dessert portions perfect.
We enjoyed Globe Bisto's prix fixe Thanksgiving dinner. We each had a different entrée based on the two options offered - free run roast turkey with pomme purée/stuffing/Brussels sprouts/cranberry relish/sage jus and Ricotta gnocchi with roasted mushrooms/squash purée/crispy kale/walnuts/gouda/brown butter sage. Both entrées were exceptional. Despite being busy, serving staff paid good attention to us. Well worth it!
We enjoyed the six-course Chef's Tasting Menu. Soup was divine, as was the seafood course. The duck was well prepared and delicious, and the dessert was an interesting and flavourful treat. We were well attending to by the staff.
Next time we'll do the tasting menu with wine pairings.
The food was mostly good. The corn soup was delicious, salad was interestingly good, the Main was delicious and the side was delicious and healthy . Not fond of meringue- it was way too sweet, I did not like the dessert. I was very full at the end of the meal.
I could sense one of Our server 's body whenever he came by with my food. That was a bit off putting. Otherwise the other servers are great, good descriptions and helpful and friendly.
The group of 8 that came after 9pm was a bit loud for us to hear each other.
The gift card was for Global Bistro only. I didn't get that when I purchased the Travelzoo deal. Live and learn to read better!
I purchased a voucher from travelzoo for 6 people tasting menu, came in on a Wednesday and it was free corkage day so we brought our own wine. I called in the morning to tell them we have a vegan in our group. The tasting menu was top notch, in addition our waiter was highly professional and he checked with the rest of us if the main course pork belly was okay with everyone, and it turns out the majority wanted something else. Not only they accommodated the vegan, they also adjusted the main course to fit everyone's preference. Both vegan and non vegan tastings were delicious, I was blown away by the vegan plate it was incredible. Ambiance is great, everyone had a great time, so we made the waiter happy too by leaving $100 tip. I would highly recommend this place.
The Globe Bistro is a delight - classy, artistic setting, quiet for conversation, friendly and skilled service, outstanding presentation, and creative and mouth watering cuisine. Thank you, and we'll be back and tell our friends as well. Bravo! Go for the tasting menu as an introduction and then return for mains. or a totally different tasting menu.
