Glen Prairie Ratings and Reviews
One of our party needs the gluten free choices and she was very pleased. My salmon was excellent and all of us thought the food was very good and prices fair. Our waiter was very attentive and went out of his way to make sure we satisfied. We will definitely come back again.
First time dining and will definitely be back. Excellent service!! Doesn’t feel like a “hotel restaurant”. Most menu items can be prepared gluten free. Brussel sprout appetizer was delicious but a bit disappointing-mostly artichoke hearts and garlic with few pieces of brussel sprout. Tomato and French onion soups were awesome. Mac and cheese with pork bbq was amazing - GF, light sauce and GF pasta made this not as heavy as you would expect, and very enjoyable. Next time we’ll have to leave room for dessert - looking forward to it!
When i booked thru open table for a NYE dinner, nowhere did it say that there would be fixed-price menu - if i had known, i wouldn't have made a reservation. To be honest, they did let us know that was the case when we first checked in however being that late in the evening, we didn't have any other options.
Having said that, the food was good but they should have some vegetarian options and scallops doesn't cut it as a veg entree.
Will i go back? Probably to try what they would normally serve.
We went here for Christmas dinner. The food was wonderful and the ambience was very pleasant. They were running so far behind we didn’t get seated until almost an hour past our reservation time. Incredibly long service time and some meals can out cold. Unfortunately, we were so disappointed in the service even though the food was very good
This is one of our favorite restaurants - and a go-to for special occasions. They source much of their menu items from local farmers!
We were there this time on Christmas Day - unfortunately they were a little short-staffed - but the waitress we had (Edna) was very pleasant and thoughtful.
I highly recommend this restaurant for any meal, special occasion or holiday.
It took a half an hour to get the bread and water from the hostess after I complained. It took an hour to get our soft drinks. We were told they were short of staff. Our appetizer was delivered to the table next to us. I informed the waitress it was ours but she questioned us. My meal came with sautéed spinach but was delivered with green beans. Our meal was delivered an hour & a half after we arrived. I asked to speak with the manager. Half an hour later I asked the waitress again. She said the manager was too busy to come out of the kitchen. I had to ask another waitress. Two other tables received the same treatment as us. I will never go back.
Unexpected gem considering it is connected to a Holiday Inn. You can tell it is a restaurant that stands on its own. Server was very knowledgeable about all the GF, vegan and vegetarian options, though that wasn't the main reason we went. Simply good food in a really nice atmosphere. Skip the lamb skewers as an appetizer. Thought we were eating a chunk of gyros meat, not skewers of roast lamb.
My friends and I chose Glen Prairie because of its central location to where we were coming from, as well as the menu and photos posted online. Our experience surpassed our expectations. We enjoyed the warm, inviting, quiet atmosphere. We enjoyed a variety of beverages, from beer, to wine, to signature cocktails. Our dinner choices were also varied - flatbread, short ribs, and duck breast. Our server, Todd, was both attentive and accommodating. He gave us excellent recommendations based on our inclinations from the menu. He was also quite patient, being that we spent alot of time catching up with each other, before even opening our menus. We were thoroughly enjoyed our meals and look forward to returning!
We had not been to GP in several years, but had enjoyed it on cold nights in the past, and the hearty food was something we looked forward to. I have to say that except for the fried brussel sprout appetizer, we were a bit disappointed. My "stuffed Amish Chicken" special sounded wonderful in the description, but on presentation, it was rolled up white meat chicken, somewhat overdone and dry. My dining companions did not rave about their selections either. We did truly enjoy the wedge salads, which were nicely done, with just the right amount of bacon and dressing. Our expectations of the atmosphere were met, as we were able to enjoy a long, conversational meal with enough space around us not to feel cramped or crowded. As the evening wore on, however, the DJ music from the wedding in the hotel banquet area bled into our quiet night as the wedding guests filtered in and out of the bar.
My husband and I are regular patrons of Glenn Prairie because of their scrumptious food, ambiance and attention to detail. We have never been disappointed. The chef is accommodating to my vegetarian diet and the waitstaff is friendly and professional. I know many other people who love this gem also. I want to see them stay in business forever, but I don't want them to get so famous or trendy that we won't be able to get in without a reservation 6 mos in advance ;-)
Every year we eat at Glen Prairie for Thanksgiving. This year was very disappointing. We had 6 pm reservations but we were told that they were running late because earlier diners arrived late. The food was not as good as in previous years. Our server was nowhere to be found. Our meal arrive 20 mines after people who arrived after us. The only time we saw our server was to hand us the bill and collect the tip. This was the worst experience in five years of dining at Glen Prairie for Thanksgiving. We will rethink whether we eat at Glen Prairie again.
We had a 7pm restaurant on a Wednesday. The place was 80% at that time and only 2 waitstaffs. We were greeted and seated promptly. Warm bread and butter were nice. Our waitress Edna has the brightest smile, told us the special/her favorite, and set expectation that they were a bit short handed. While the service and kitchen was a bit slow, Edna did check with us a few times. The onion soup and the mac and cheese were great - highly recommended. The salmon may not be the freshest as it were a bit fishy. The mustard sauce was used to kind mask the fishy taste. Overview it was a good experience. Edna friendliness definitely made up for the other downfalls. I will visit again for the farm fresh salad and mac and cheese.
Honestly, the previous reviews were wonderful. We were disappointed, and were wondering if they were short staffed. The waitress was a nice as could be.......but SLOW, SLOW service. Food was ok, menu for breakfast average, nothing unusual or exciting. Very clean.
Always a great meal, our recent visit was no exception. We had the pike, beautifully prepared, pork chop (a special item), short ribs and the pecan pork tenderloin. Portion size is great, the entrees were delicious and so are the sides. The sides are excellent, for example, the whipped sweet potatoes served with the pork tenderloin had a wonderful balsamic sauce drizzled over them.
Food was very good and service was efficient, but they seemed a little understaffed, so after meal was served, had to find our server to pay the bill. Server was very knowledgeable and very friendly. A very comfortable restaurant, especially for being located in a hotel. Had been there before and was disappointed with the food, but this was tremendously better that a prior visit a year or so ago. Well done!
