First night in wine country-- I had reserved our table and we drove from Sonoma-- worth the drive!
We had a good dinner on a busy Friday night. Our table was tight and in a very small space, lots of action going by. Food was good and wine selections great
This place was terribly under staffed. They could not accommodate the patrons they had and to make matters worse, they kept accepting more. Poor management and no one was apologetic for the poor service.
I wish they would broaden their menu. We have had many a delightful meal at the restaurant and usually rely on their specials, which were particularly weak on Monday of this week. We had friends from out of town and had spoken highly of the restaurant but we are felt the meal was poor. Get more creative - the chef must be able to develop a better menu. If not, get a new chef.
Great martinis, great oysters, wonderful cioppino, terrific french fries, and awesome desserts. The oysters rockefeller were too dry with too many breadcrumbs. The muscles with french fries needed to be separate. The french fries became too soggy. Otherwise, it was great!
The Glen Ellen Inn is a gem. It's owned by lovely people who really care about what they put on the table. This is not your trendy, "have you been" restaurant. Don't be fooled by the laminated menu. The food is consistently delicious, with great service, and a charming setting. I consider myself a discriminating restaurant goer who always thinks trendy restaurants have a short lifespan. The Glen Ellen Inn is a keeper.
Throughly enjoyed our meal there. The service was excellent until they started getting busy. My son in law ordered coffee with his dessert and it came at least 5-10 minutes after he finished it. Fortunately, he is very easy going so it didn"t seem to bother him. Over all it is a great little restaurant. Best of all it was close by where we were staying.
Excellent wait staff and delicious meals.
Killer martinis with fresh oysters!!
Excellent meal and friendly service. Nice wine list reasonably priced. Would definitely return if we visit Sonoma Valley again. Cottages in the rear were a find. Great value and fun for our small group (4).
Food was delicious -- love the small inner dining room -- like eating in a tree house looking out over the garden -- interesting menu -- beautiful food presentation -- meyer lemon dessert to die for -- good wine list, by the glass or by the bottle --
Our service person, Dominic, was either over committed, or maybe new, or??? He was noticeably absent and had to repeatedly be found by us, or by the other waiter on duty. Maybe it was an unusually busy Saturday -- don't know -- he did seem to be outside more than inside -- maybe the restaurant was short-staffed on that particular day? Again, don't know. Will we be back again? Absolutely, but don't want Dominic as our waiter.
They did an excellent job handling our group of ten. Food was very good and I look forward to returning for a date night.
Bad service from the start--had to wait ten minutes to even check in for 8:00 reservation while hostess ignored everyone, scrambling around to set up an unreserved table for a very rude party who pushed past all of us with reservations to clog up the entryway. Waiter was pompous and annoying, did the minimum possible. Food was decent but service ruined it. Was my wife's birthday and I had noted it on reservation--never acknowledged or mentioned.
Solid restaurant. Menu and establishment has "old school" appeal and food was good.
The Glen Ellen Inn has always been one of my favorite restaurants in Sonoma County. I think my wife and I caught it on a bad night. I ordered a steak which came with a Blue Cheese Sauce. Not liking Blue Cheese I requested the steak without it or with something different. I was offered a red wine sauce which was fine. I never thought about the Blue Cheese when I ordered my "Simple Greens Salad." I was a bit surprised after the discussion about Blue Cheese on the steak that there was a considerable amount of Blue Chees on my salad. That was my fault though. I should have read the menu description more thoroughly. But, you would think a waiter might have caught that too. More importantly, I ordered my steak medium and it was at best well done. My wife ordered salmon and it too was significantly overcooked.
I am going to write this off as a bad day for The Glen Ellen Inn. I have been there in excess of 30 times and would rate all of those visits a 5 across the board.
We were there while touring some friends from Chicago around wine country. It was close to our hotel (Olea), and we wanted something close. For an oyster bar, there was only one type of oyster available, which was surprising and a little disappointing. The martinis were good and the restaurant was cozy and quiet. I ordered the halibut(I think, it's been a week). My husband had the salmon. The fish was cooked well, no complaints there. Hopefully, they up the ante with the oyster choices on the weekends.
All was perfect, the food, service and ambiance. Lovely spot for our date night. Many restaurants come and go in the Glen Ellen area but the Glen Ellen Inn always is consistent and excellent. A real gem!
Very nice location and atmosphere. We liked our fried oysters and salmon. The burger was just okay. The mussels were small and a number of empty shells.
We took our 4 friends to the Glen Ellen Inn for dinner on Friday night.
Dominic was a great waiter who knows the house inside and out.
We had appetizers: Calamari and the Mussels and French Fries...both were excellent.
The 6 of us has Prawns, Hanger Steak, Mahi Mahi Salad and Cioppino....all of us thought these were superb.
This is a great restaurant to celebrate or jus t get friends together over excellent food.
This restaurant never lets us down! We look forward to dining here every year when we come in to town for wine tasting!
Amazing food and great service. Would recommend the pan fried oyster appetizer was fabulous. Love the filet and prawns.
Everything was great, food was very delicious, Service Super, atmosphere great. The only con was the portion size of salmon and sole were on the small size, especially the king salmon.
This was the 5th or 6th time we've eaten at the Glen Ellen Inn Oyster Grill and Martini Bar and we will certainly continue to go back every time we are in wine country. While we did indulge in a martini or two and yummy oysters the filet and prawns were superb. See you next time for sure.
This place is so unassuming but has amazing food! Try the Brie w/strawberries, the gazpacho, the salmon salad, the lamb pastrami. Also, the atmosphere is lovely, very charming and cheery. This is a restaurant worth seeking out!
I have been dining here for many years and it has become one of my very favorite restaurants to bring newcomers to the wine country.
We were there on a Monday night and were disappointed with the food. We had a nice table in a pleasant spot. We ordered simple food and were disappointed. There were no more than 14 Mussels in the Mussels and garlic fries with too much sauce. The Burger was fine but overcooked. The salads were fine. I had the wedge which was not in wedge shape but was crunchy. The watermelon salad was ok but not at all provocative. We had a bottle of wine from and interesting wine list.
Just okay menu selection. My "Wine County Cioppino" was closer to jambalaya than cioppino and the creme' brûlée was gelatinous instead of creamy. On the up side, our server was kind (if not attentive) and the wine list was impressive. I would have liked a my server to know more about the wine list. I might go back for a bottle of wine and appetizers but don't need to go back for dinner.
great food - great ambiance - nice for a group or table for 2
This is our usual go to place for a light dinner and great cocktails. Tonight however the service was pretty bad (new front of house maybe?), the cocktails were mediocre and the food had changed, even though it was a standard menu item. Love this place but this past visit didn't live up to our previous experiences.
Good food, great setting, excellent service
Best mussels and fries. Period.
Adorable spot, perfect for date night or a special romantic evening. Wonderful drinks, obviously martinis and signature cocktails, but fun wine list too. Delightful service, fantastic food... this will easily become a staple. Thank you so much!
Arrived for our reservation and was asked "inside or outside?" It had been a scorching hot day and was a warm early evening and I asked wheter it was hot on the outside patio (after all, not knowing if it's in direct sunlight, breezy, etc) and the host replied "it's the same temperature as it was just before you walked inside". It was so rude and awkward we almost turned around and walked out the door. Kinda wish we had. Later the host said that he'd made that same joke to every customer who asked the question. The food was good, but not good enough to make up for rudeness.
This restaurant was so fun and accommodating for my group of girlfriends. There were 8 of us who came here right after a day of wine tasting. The food was delicious, and the outside seating was beautiful with the lights. The weather was perfect too. I would definitely come again for a group party or even a romantic date with the husband.
We sat outside. Beautiful evening. Calamari was delicious. I had the crab raviolis my husband had the special strip steak we both enjoyed our food. Service was good . I can't wait to come back.
The food was wonderful, and the martinis...out of this world. Service great too. Great desserts too.
An excellent dinner with my wife. Martini's are their specialty and they made a good dirty one! We split the oysters, which were excellent with a variety of sauces. I had the ciopino and my wife, the raviolis. She commented they were very light on a hot day. It is a country style environment with good service and prices that are a good value!
We ate at this restaurant on our way to a show in Santa Rosa after wine tasting in Glen Ellen. We had previously eaten lunch there. The service and food were again outstanding. We enjoyed ordering cocktails off their very large martini menu. And don't miss their scones, served as part of the bread offering - maybe the best we've ever eaten.
What a lovely place to bring out-of-towners. We were unruly, loud and disruptive but even the other patrons didn't seem to mind. The server was gracious and the food was wonderful! Most of us had the ahi tuna poke bowl and some of the menfolk had the hanger steak special with chimichurri sauce. Yum! Spent about 2.5 hours there with no one rushing us, almost like eating in Europe where your table is yours for the night. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to go in Sonoma County. It's tucked away in a shaded spot with quaint rooms and fine patrons. What more could you want?
We have been coming to the Glenn Ellen Inn & Oyster Bar for years. The food is wonderful and the people are great. It feels like a retreat from the city noise and yet still has the great California cuisine that is associated with the city . The list of specialty martinis is amazing and fun to try with the oysters. I had the best filet Mignon ever while celebrating my adult son's birthday and we had as much fun as when we were there to celebrate his college graduation from UCBerkeley. We had 40 people for dinner celebration a year ago and it was managed without any fuss and everyone raved about the food and wine. And our friends know food and wine. We love this place and it never seems to get old even though we do.
