Glass House Tavern Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful surprise! Bright & friendly atmosphere. Close to theatre, had reasonable fix price menu, with good choices. Not tight quarters, like some restaurants in NYCity. We did have a suitcase, & they were able to accommodate us, w/out problem, even while we were at our show ! Can't wait to return !
The food was decent, but the staff was less so.
Our party of 4 did not arrive together so we depended on the maitre d to send us all to the same table. They did not. Also one of our group asked for the dessert to be different than what was shown on the menu. The waiter did not make the requested changes. Sloppy management.
Glasshouse Tavern continues to be my favorite restaurant in the Theater District. I'm never disappointed. Our group of four dined pre-theater. We arrived a little early for our 11:30 a.m. reservation. We were seated immediately and had time to chat and enjoy a leisurely lunch, without any pressure from the wait staff. We all had the fixed price pre-matinee lunch and it was delicious (and an excellent value).
I had the Tomato Basil Soup to start--absolutely delicious. Seasoned perfectly, savoury but with a notable sweetness. Enjoyed every bite. I had the salmon for my main course. The corn/couscous risotto was outstanding. I wish there was more of it on the plate. The salmon itself, I hoped for better. It wasn't bad, however, I found it somewhat dry, I needed to add salt. It was cooked to a perfect medium which is how they said it would be so that was great, but I do prefer my salmon at a medium-rare. I enjoyed my dessert as well. Overall, a very good meal!
We had plenty of room to sit and enjoy our guests without feeling cramped or otherwise disturbed by those around us. Very much a plus for a business brunch. Our waiter was less than attentive; seemed quite impatient actually. We all left hungry; never had brunch omelet with toast and only get one piece of toast, with salad as a side, no potatoes; and we are not big eaters! Location was great and restaurant very clean and not noisy. Actually perfect for our limited purposes, but not a great place is you are really into food.
Good value for pre theatre dining whether you get the prix fixe or order from the menu. On 47th near 8th Ave so great if you have a show between 50th -44th & 7th Ave. - 8th Ave. Best to sit upstairs away from the stairway areas if you want to chat. Bar area downstairs can get noisy—wood floors. Service was exc. Salad we had was great as was my pastrami duck with spaghetti squash
I am not sure if we just had a disgruntled server or not. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was good. But had the worst service. We were only checked on twice in the 90 min we were there. Never was asked if I wanted more water or a beer. Entirely ignored by almost all of the staff. Highly frustrating.
I booked a team lunch for 8, they were accommodating and everything was great. We all ate the fixed lunch menu. Food, service and environment were good. The only ding I would have was there was a used fork on our table when we sat down and that was a turn off for everybody as the tables are set with nice white linens and then we see the yuck. Everyone commented on it and it set the tone for our meal.
This was our second time eating here. The first time was great in every way. We brought our daughter to New York to see the Christmas lights and catch a couple plays. We were seated at a table right next to the bussing station. I should have requested a different table as there were others empty. The waiters congregated at the station talking , one of them rarely leaving the computer at the station, yet no one noticed our water glasses were empty. The dirty dishes were brought to this station and every once in a while someone would come and put them all into a plastic bin to be taken away. Very noisy and distracting to be seated near. It was about three feet from our table with just a walking area between our table and bussing station. While the food was very good, the overall experience was not. I would suggest never seating anyone at that table until all others were full and then warning them it is a noisy and congested area.
We had tickets for a 2:00 matinee and arrived for lunch a little late because of the heavy traffic. When we got there the staff was so accommodating.
Our lunch was delicious and we had a great view of 47th Street right from out table
Food arrived very quickly and we got to our show in time
The food was very good, but our service was terrible. We waited almost an hour to get our entrées after our salads. The waiter apologized and said they were unusually busy. However, we were one of the first to arrive with a 5:00 pm seating and were one of the last to be served in our area. When we inquired about our food from the manager (for the second time), he again made the same excuse and made no attempt to make it right. We had 7:00 pm theatre tickets (which we informed the waiter of when we first sat down) and it apparently had no impact on our ability to get served. No time for coffee or to enjoy dessert.
We went to dinner after a show at the Barrymore theater, right across the street. I made reservations online and we were seated promptly. Service (Chanel) was exceptional; she offered suggestions but was not intrusive. She was attentive and spot on with her recommendations. We each ordered the $39 prix fixe dinner. The crabcake appetizers (my wife and I both ordered it) were the best we 've had. Large succulent chunks of crab ( a rarity) complented by a slightly pickled salad. My braised prok shank with pineapple chutney grits was off-the bone tender though the pork was, well, pork, with little additonal seasoning. The side of grits was perfect and welcome. I'm not a dessert person yet the molten chocolate cake with the side of vaniila ice cream was delicious and a just-right palate cleanser. Only complaint: the coffee could have been hotter though it was nice to have the small pot with the refill at the table. I enjoyed this so much than I'm inclined to look for shows at the Barrymore!
Went here for Thanksgiving dinner. Had reservations for 1:15 but decided to head right over after the parade. We were seated immediately upstairs. The meal was delicious. I started with the risotto with duck confit. Cooked perfectly. For my entree I chose the traditional turkey dinner. All elements were in place and prepared on point. Finally how could I say no to Pumpkin Pie for dessert. Simple and delicious. Thanks to everyone for a great holiday meal.
What a find! My husband, son, daughter-in-law, 2 grandchildren (ages 6 & 8), and I had reservations prior to our 4pm performance of the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. We were seated promptly and were able to choose our seats. (We arrived early). We were seated in a booth that seats 6 comfortably and were immediately approached by our waitress, Jane. She was absolutely wonderful! The children requested spaghetti with butter sauce, no problem! One wanted lemonade, no problem. Our drink orders were taken and served, our dinner orders were taken and served! What an amazing experience. This restaurant was so accommodating and the food was delicious. We didn't have the Thanksgiving dinner as this was lunch for us. We will definitely return to this restaurant!
