About Gladstones

In a world where landmarks are few and far between there is Gladstones. Situated where Sunset Boulevard meets the Pacific Coast Highway, it's become a place of Southern California legend. Gladstones offers a menu plucked from the very ocean it overlooks, serving modern renditions of classic dishes. In its typically relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, there's something to satisfy every palate. Whether you're at the raw bar, the lounge, the dining rooms or the grand patio over-looking the surf, it's commonly agreed there's no better place, either up the coast or down, to enjoy fresh seafood, a Mai Tai or a sunset. Gladstones has been named an "Editor's Pick" in Sunset Magazine, one of Gayot.com's "Top 10 Outdoor Dining Restaurants" in L.A. and one of CBS Los Angeles's "Best Seafood" restaurants.

Gladstones is a bit rundown in appearance. I was also saddened to learn, and quite disappointed, that the Catch of the Day does not guarantee that it's wild caught. For those prices, I expect much more. It's overrated, and quite frankly, I would have been happier at Red Lobsters.

My waiter was fantastic and the view is awesome.

Everything was amazing and it’s been my favorite place to grab a bite buuuuut they removed my favorite dish. Crab shrimp and Lobster linguini. Very disappointed because I went for a birthday dinner but like the manager said hopefully they bring it back.

Customer service was amazing, everyone was super nice, and I felt like I was important. The food was amazing, and with an amazing evening view to go along with it. Definitely recommend to anyone with a birthday, or just want great food. Unlike one of the other restaurants up the street from there, the employees are actually nice and kind.

Gladstones occupies one of the most prime pieces of beachside real estate in LA. That is basically the reason you go there. I went because a friend from out of town loves watching the sunset there when he's here. Beyond that spectacular view, though, Gladstones is sorely lacking. The food is okay, my Poke bowl was good, but the macadamia nut shrimp were like something you'd find at Panda Express. Gladstones also charges if you want a loaf of bread, which is really bad form for an expensive restaurant. And Gladstones is quite expensive for what it is. $11 mandatory valet, appetizers that are mostly in the $20 range, with main courses that start around the same level and range far up from there. You're paying for the view. For my money, Dukes up the road delivers better food with nearly as good a view for lower prices. If you're looking for a high end experience, Geoffrey's or Nobu Malibu are much better for that.

Everything was up to par with the exception of check-in hostesses. All of them had an attitude and we waited 30 minutes past our reservation time when others who walked in after us were seated. Bad hostesses horrible attitude!

Expected better after seeing the high rating from fellow Open Table reviewers.

A little to greasy soon type of place for me for the costs involved.

Sat for way too long while all employees were hanging out in the kitchen.

Kind of a tourist trap with very expensive, good but not especially creative seafood. It is right on the beach and you can sit outside, which is very nice. But it is also directly adjacent to PCH which is not so nice. If you are hungry and passing by it’s worth a stop, but not worth a drive with so many better places in the area

Greeter very rude and not accommodating -almost did not stay for meal on account of first encounter.
Unfortunate, as I regularly eat here and have never encountered this before.
The waiter, however, was very polite and helpful.

Food mediocre, they brought one of the meals for our party 15 minutes later than everyone else. Even then, the fish and chips were cold. Very average and over priced. Better options in the area. The beach is pretty.

Four of us had brunch here on the way to LAX . All of our choices were wonderful....but very pricey! Tuna poke bowl, angus burger, clam chowder, tuna sandwich! Fish tacos. Great fries too. We had an 11:30reservation (when they open) and didn’t really seem to know what to do with us becaspuse we were 5 minutes early. It all worked out😊

My wife and I used to come here many years ago when we used to live in CA and Gladstone's had the best memories for us. So, planned a family get together on our visit to CA on Sunday, with much anticipation. Unfortunately, it now seems so run down, no $$ being reinvested to keep the restaurant in good shape or maintained. I didn't want to even sit on the patio furniture they were so worn out & stained and disgusting... The restaurant was dead, with only a few customers... Overall disappointing to see how it has gone down with how it has changed...
The food was still fantastic, and our server Angel - was terrific!!

Food was awesome the only concern was the lack of waitress information instead of getting a piece of fro fish we end up with a whole fish which could be enough for 2 people we end up with a big bill and a lot of food that went waste😆

This is not the Gladstone of old. My wife and I went there for my 50th birthday celebration. The appetizers came out in a reasonable amount of time. After what seemed a lifetime, my meal came out by itself.
The dry waitress said there was a mixup in the kitchen and that my wife’s meal went out to another table. When her meal finally arrived 10 minutes later it was cold, there was no apology, there was no ompensation. I feel for a meal of $135 plus $11 to park things should’ve been a lot smoother, I’ll a lot better. I won’t be going back.

My husband and I rode our e-bikes up to the Santa Monica Pier tunnel to meet the kids, who rode their e-bikes from Culver City. We then all rode north to Gladstones for our Thanksgiving dinner. It was a beautiful day with great weather. Upon our arrival at Gladstones, we were greeted by the hostesses who promptly seated us at a table with a view to the ocean. To my surprise, our main course was delicious. We also ordered drinks and appetizers. The desserts were delicious also, with a choice of key lime tart or pumpkin cheesecake. We all had a really fun day and adventure, and enjoyed our Thanksgiving together at Gladstones.

The last time I was there was 21 years ago and I remember it was a total hip and happening place as it sits right on the waterfront and is located in beautiful Malibu. This time I found it much quieter. The food was extremely good. We ordered an Ahi Burger, Ceviche, Mac 'n Cheese and a loaf of bread. Nothing was short of delicious. Our only disappointment was that the sea gulls ate the left-over bread after we put it down while we took pictures. :)

Visited here on a recent LA visit. Went to see the sunset and grab dinner. We sat outside and had a great meal with a lovely view. I had the lobster roll which had a very good amount of lobster and my bf had a very fresh and large lobster. Would definitely visit again and would recommend to friends.

The weather was great and we got together with family and old friends it was a great place to get together! Maybe because we’re from Nevada and not used to So Cal prices we were a little surprised. When i went online to see the menu, the price for the King Crab was posted at $51. When we arrived the menu and the bill was for $66 for a 1 lb. serving. It was delicious nonetheless. Outside lounge area needs a facelift too!

30 years ago it was "the place." It's tired and ready to go into the sunset. It's over priced for the quality and quantity. $28 for lobster roll...it was so over dressed that it could just as easily have been that faux crab. But...for our 33rd anniversary it was worth the trip from Ventura and the nostalgia...and we are still glad we got to go one last time.

Went during a world series game and the place was all but empty.

Sat in a booth by the bar, and received excellent service from the bartender. Clam chowder was great, as usual. Spiced Ahi Tuna entree was pretty chewy on one end, but the rest of the plate was delicious. Shrimp and pasta entree, was good, but pretty run of the mill in taste.

Overall, pretty good, and would return for another occasion.
