In a world where landmarks are few and far between there is Gladstones. Situated where Sunset Boulevard meets the Pacific Coast Highway, it's become a place of Southern California legend. Gladstones offers a menu plucked from the very ocean it overlooks, serving modern renditions of classic dishes. In its typically relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, there's something to satisfy every palate. Whether you're at the raw bar, the lounge, the dining rooms or the grand patio over-looking the surf, it's commonly agreed there's no better place, either up the coast or down, to enjoy fresh seafood, a Mai Tai or a sunset. Gladstones has been named an "Editor's Pick" in Sunset Magazine, one of Gayot.com's "Top 10 Outdoor Dining Restaurants" in L.A. and one of CBS Los Angeles's "Best Seafood" restaurants.

Gladstones Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I used to come here many years ago when we used to live in CA and Gladstone's had the best memories for us. So, planned a family get together on our visit to CA on Sunday, with much anticipation. Unfortunately, it now seems so run down, no $$ being reinvested to keep the restaurant in good shape or maintained. I didn't want to even sit on the patio furniture they were so worn out & stained and disgusting... The restaurant was dead, with only a few customers... Overall disappointing to see how it has gone down with how it has changed...
The food was still fantastic, and our server Angel - was terrific!!
This is not the Gladstone of old. My wife and I went there for my 50th birthday celebration. The appetizers came out in a reasonable amount of time. After what seemed a lifetime, my meal came out by itself.
The dry waitress said there was a mixup in the kitchen and that my wife’s meal went out to another table. When her meal finally arrived 10 minutes later it was cold, there was no apology, there was no ompensation. I feel for a meal of $135 plus $11 to park things should’ve been a lot smoother, I’ll a lot better. I won’t be going back.
My husband and I rode our e-bikes up to the Santa Monica Pier tunnel to meet the kids, who rode their e-bikes from Culver City. We then all rode north to Gladstones for our Thanksgiving dinner. It was a beautiful day with great weather. Upon our arrival at Gladstones, we were greeted by the hostesses who promptly seated us at a table with a view to the ocean. To my surprise, our main course was delicious. We also ordered drinks and appetizers. The desserts were delicious also, with a choice of key lime tart or pumpkin cheesecake. We all had a really fun day and adventure, and enjoyed our Thanksgiving together at Gladstones.
The last time I was there was 21 years ago and I remember it was a total hip and happening place as it sits right on the waterfront and is located in beautiful Malibu. This time I found it much quieter. The food was extremely good. We ordered an Ahi Burger, Ceviche, Mac 'n Cheese and a loaf of bread. Nothing was short of delicious. Our only disappointment was that the sea gulls ate the left-over bread after we put it down while we took pictures. :)
Visited here on a recent LA visit. Went to see the sunset and grab dinner. We sat outside and had a great meal with a lovely view. I had the lobster roll which had a very good amount of lobster and my bf had a very fresh and large lobster. Would definitely visit again and would recommend to friends.
The weather was great and we got together with family and old friends it was a great place to get together! Maybe because we’re from Nevada and not used to So Cal prices we were a little surprised. When i went online to see the menu, the price for the King Crab was posted at $51. When we arrived the menu and the bill was for $66 for a 1 lb. serving. It was delicious nonetheless. Outside lounge area needs a facelift too!
30 years ago it was "the place." It's tired and ready to go into the sunset. It's over priced for the quality and quantity. $28 for lobster roll...it was so over dressed that it could just as easily have been that faux crab. But...for our 33rd anniversary it was worth the trip from Ventura and the nostalgia...and we are still glad we got to go one last time.
Went during a world series game and the place was all but empty.
Sat in a booth by the bar, and received excellent service from the bartender. Clam chowder was great, as usual. Spiced Ahi Tuna entree was pretty chewy on one end, but the rest of the plate was delicious. Shrimp and pasta entree, was good, but pretty run of the mill in taste.
Overall, pretty good, and would return for another occasion.
I live in Germany and travel to the LA about once a year. At least one dinner at Gladstones is a must. I love this place. I have never had bad food and people were always nice. I love to have dinner so close to the ocean and always enjoy the view.. I will definately be back
It was disappointing. We really loved Gladstone’s and brought our friends .
But this was the second disappointing occasion.
They didn’t bring they sourdough bread although we asked twice.
The fish tacos were mushy not crispy and cold . The red crab legs weren’t really fresh and severed cold.
The waiter though friend didn’t refill and was slow.
We had a very positive experience at the restaurant. The only real negative is that management has done nothing to withdraw the notice that the restaurant is closing by the end of October. A server told us that the place was scheduled to close but they negotiated a new 3 year lease. The internet notices to the contrary should be withdrawn or corrected to show that the restaurant will be around until at least 2020.
We came to celebrate my husband's birthday and chose Gladstones because of the setting! Our friends were visiting from Oklahoma and had never been there too! We all had a fabulous time! Our waiter was A+! So, sweet and efficient and friendly! Dane was great! Thank you for your unique restaurant! We always have a truly wonderful time in the atmosphere and the food is delicious!
The view of the ocean from this restaurant was amazing!
Wait staff very nice but extremely slow.
Onion rings were thumbs up- good.
Salmon was the fish of the day. It was fresh and good. Ahi Tuna was just okay, what my husband cooks at home was better.
Fish tacos and shrimp tacos both good but shrimp was better.
Wrapped with with sorbet- delicious!
Updated decor (but no more peanuts....), revamped menu (but no more shee crab soup). Quiet enough for conversation early on (5:30 pm on a Saturday) but progressively more noisy. Lobster roll pricey but very flavorful; excellent shrimp (7 ginormous! shrimp) cocktail with add-your-own-horseradish-to-the-cocktail sauce. As always the sourdough bread and butter was outstanding! Had to ask twice for lemon for my water (not an uncommon occurrence at any restaurant; sometimes I have to ask 3 times). Glitch with getting our drinks from the bar; had to ask our server again for them; drinks arrived well after the food.
The ambiance and scenery was amazing , The food was just average , the service was just average . They automatically added 20% tip for our party of 10 and I am thinking that's why the servers were not as responsive as they should be , they figure they will get their 20% tip anyway so then they were not attending to us as other servers do in other restaurants .
