A very fun venue on ocean with beach front, great food, service, and picture perfect spot to watch dolphins dance in water and sun sets.
It had been well over a decade since I had last been to Gladstones. Now married and a mother of two teenagers, I was so excited to bring my family to Gladstones as my memories of eating there when I was younger were so positive. I am hoping that our experience is simply limited to Sunday Brunch, but it was the biggest disappointment of our family weekend trip to LA, which we took last minute to wrap up the kids' holiday break. Our service was decent, but the food was below average: Coffee was not hot; eggs Benedict with crab had very little hollandaise sauce; I paid ~ $10 for a side of breakfast potatoes since, per the menu, my eggs Benedict did not come with breakfast potatoes but when my food arrived, my plate was full of potatoes, in addition to the side order, which I was still charged extra for (I had no need for 2 full orders of breakfast potatoes); the frisee salad tasted like someone had dumped several tablespoons of salt all over it (I don't salt my food, so I know it wasn't me); the fruit that came with my son's pancakes was soft and tasteless; my daughter's veggie omelet looked plastic, not fresh, and she could barely eat it; and notwithstanding what the menu said, they had no soy, almond or alternative milk product (really? In Los Angeles, of all places?). I grew up in the LA basin and lived in Beverly Hills years ago. I have been to Gladstones many times, but thinking back on it, my experiences there must have been at dinner time. Do yourself a favor - don't go for brunch. I wish I would've known, as we ruined our appetites and wasted our money. At least it was a beautiful morning and the views were amazing.
Perfect Saturday afternoon lunch, we sat right on the water, service was friendly and responsive (thank you Conner!) We has the Malibu seafood tower to start which was fresh and plentiful- finished with amazing fish and chips. A perfect California day, we definitely will be back!
Perfect Pacific coast seafood hangout. Just plain great. Relaxed. Quality. Consistent. Go as often as you can.
Good experience, in a great location.
Can’t beat the location
We have been to Gladstone's a number of times over the years. It is usually a festive and lively crowd. We arrived around 8:15 on New Year's Eve expecting a pretty full and festive atmosphere. Somewhat disappointingly, there were no decorations or signs of New Year's Eve and the place was half empty. So, it really didn't feel like a celebration. The food was fine. It is over-priced, but you are paying for the beautiful Pacific Ocean view, unless you go at night! The crab legs were tasty ($70/pound), the filet mignon tender ($60), and the lobster mac and cheese was a hit with my teenage sons. Overall it was a bit meh. Best for summer cocktails and appetizers- I'll be skipping the evening celebration there next year.
Very disappointed from years ago Brought friends for Rose Bowl New Year’s Eve and what a downer evening. VERY POOR MENUE! NO OMBIANCE. JUST BLAAAA. Will never be back.
Splurged on the clam bake, which was a mountain of food. The whiskey smash cocktail was great as was the service. But the best part was arriving early (4:30) to get a window booth facing the ocean and watching the sunset.
Restaurant was under staffed. SLOW kitchen. Took 50 minutes to get bread for the table and then 57 to get our food. Party of 3 adults and 2 kids. Kids food came out quickly. Our server was great but was given too many tables. Not his fault.
The food was bland, lackluster. Not the usual fair I was used to. The was another waiter (Caucasian man with black shorts) that kept staring down my date. The waiter was disrespectful. Our waitress was great. The host was awesome. There weren’t many people there. Made me wonder if the restaurant was losing its flavor. Not worth the prices you had to pay.
The ambiance at Gladstone’s is second to none. It’s right on the beach and beautiful. Parking is $11. We had a reservation at 1pm for Brunch and arrived 10 minutes early. We were not seated until 1:30. Our waitress did not come to get our order until 1:45pn. We waited around for appetizers for another 30 minutes. Then drink orders. Then finally food. The bill for 3 adults and a child was $170 minus gratuity. If the service was better we wouldn’t have minded paying the price, however it wasn’t. We will be giving Gladstone’s a second chance and hoping it was a fluke.
I've lived through many iterations of Gladstone's over 30+ years, and this one is not the best. You absolutely cannot beat the location and the view, and that makes it all worth it. Don't go for the food or the service, though. It took a really long time to order, then to get our drinks, then to get the food. Over an hour in total, BUT WE WERE SITTING BY THE OCEAN ON A BEAUTIFUL DAY. My New England clam chowder was really gloppy (is that a word?) and didn't have a lot of clams. It definitely had a lot of salt, though, because I was bloated for 24 hours afterward. Not worth it. Little bit of a bummer that the shrimp and crab Louie salad had a total of two shrimp. And, sadly, the Bloody Mary was not up to snuff - kind of watery, not quite flavorful enough, but I did appreciate the two olives.
Food was amazing, waiter didn’t show any enthusiasm, then when a group sat next to us he was engaged and explained specials and happy hours which would’ve been nice to know. Instead we went to the bar to ask for a happy hour menu. Overall food and views were amazing just wish the service was as good too!
Loved the look and location. The food was amazing!!!
Our Lunch experience at Glagstone's was Amazing . The Manager , Paul Williams greeted us and treated us like we were Special . We were there because it was my wife's Birthday and it couldn't have turned out better. The food was Great and the ambiance was wonderful. Thank You Paul for making my wife's Birthday a success !
The server, was amazing and she made our experience perfect. Our food was excellent and I was surprised how well it was. Glad stones looks a little worn, but the food was outstanding
If all you want is a great view and a pacific sunset, then this is the place to be. The cocktails were good and service was pleasant, nothing special, though their steamed clams were outstanding. The surf and turf left little to be desired especially with a $95 +$10 for lobster price tag. I expected more from a restaurant who specialty is seafood.
Great service , wonderful ambiance. and great food
Making the reservation with Open Table was so easy...only to arrive after a cab ride to find that the restaurant was closed. Either Open Table messed up or Gladstone’s decided to close early because of about three raindrops. Won’t be returning.
We were here over 20 years back when its was known as Gladstones for fish. Missed the ambiance of yore. Limited menu for non fish eaters. Excellent service and ambiance.
Thanksgiving dinner. It was nice. Other than some rude people sitting next to us. Sunset was beautiful.
The restaurants HVAC was out this was a rather cold day so the interior was in the low 50s.
For its prestigious location and amazing views, the quality of the food and service does not stand up. The fish n’ chips were wet/soggy, the soups cold. I will say the Lobster Mac n Cheese was good. Our lunch was 2 hours long only because our waiter disappeared for 30 minutes at a time. He never even asked how the food was. We had to ask other waiters to go find him, or to help take our order. If you want a nice view, go for it, but don’t count on a decent price or experience.
Great! Thank you!!!
Hostess was very helpful in making sure our large party was accommodated. Great experience for our large group and appreciated how well they treated us
Terrible food and overpriced. $30 for fish n chips? Decided to pay it and way too greasy. Frys not cooked all the way. Couldn’t eat it.
We went on a Tuesday for lunch and it wasn’t crowded at all. The ocean view was amazing! New England Clam Chowder was delicious and it was full of large pieces of clams. The coconut shrimp were crispy and tasty. The Mai Tai was fantastic! One of the best Mai Tais I have ever had!
Perfect place to celebrate my wife's birthday. Everything was wonderful. Great food and service and an amazing day at the beach.
Went out to have a family dinner and the experience started with us being ignored. We sat there looking for a server, while watching two other tables who were sat after us be tended to. When our server finally got to us, he played it off like nothing should have been wrong. I ordered another drink and he forgot about it then played it off with a laugh like it was funny that he forgot the drink. He offered us a free dessert which we appreciated but that doesn’t erase the fact that he provided poor service.
I always think it's going to be better. Then I get there, an enjoy the view. Then the menu arrives and it's pricey. Then the food comes and it' mediocre. In a nutshell, go have a drink at the right time and look at the sunset over the Pacific. Then, go somewhere else for a good meal.
Amazing! The food was great and they accommodated us with our large party for my birthday! Great place!
It seemed like a very casual lay back environment and the service reflected that. April was nice but not very attentive. Brought me out lukewarm coffee and did not check back to see how meal was very often
I have always loved Gladstones but was throughly disappointed this time. Service from the hostess to waitress was poor. The food was just okay. The best thing about the experience was the view and family.
Vincent our waiter made our lunch even more special. Oysters were amazing, ceviche was good and the muscles were AMAZING!!!!
The food was mediocre & that’s my opinion why this restaurant is not what it should be.
We went for our annual anniversary dinner as we have for the past few years. Service was excellent. But the menu prices were much higher than last year. $30-100 entrees is not worth it for the average menu. Was disappointing for the high price.
It has been a while since I have dined at Gladstones. While the location is an attraction the rest of the dinning experience is sorely lacking. It has become very rundown. The food is mediocre. It needs a face lift and a bit of work on its menu. Staff was friendly and service average.
