Gladstone's Long Beach Ratings and Reviews
Nice location near the water but my meal and that of my hsband was terrible. Service was fine had the macadamia covered fish which was dry and tasteless. I left almost all of my meal. Since this was a birthday celebration this was disappointing. They did bring a cotton candy treat at the end. Colorful but not something I would eat. Since our friends were treating, I did not want to co plain. Ay $28 ..a complete waste of money. Very disappointed. Plus very noisy as a large party was seated across from us. Location if course us what made this desirable. But not the food! Will try somewhere else next time.
Been coming here maybe 3-4 times a year. Last night we invited some friends and was a disaster of a dinner. My meal, which was a salad, was fine as well as the appetizer. I order a bowl of clam chowder as well.
Then came the fish entrees. All were over cooked and dry. One was even burnt and flipped over to hide. I could picture Gordon Ramsey throwing the plate across the kitchen if he was there for quality control. I mentioned that I ordered a bowl of chowder. Well, waitress forgot to bring it. I told her to take it off the bill and told her about the fish entrees.
She felt bad and brought me the chowder on the house and asked manager to comp all the fish entrees which was not our intent. They ended up comp the fish entrees.
I give them credit to try to make things right, but they need to have better quality control to start.
we were there celebrating our 36th anniversary and I was hesitant because it fell on the 5th game of the world series. There happened to be a booth by the bar and we were able to see the game and enjoy a great lobster dinner! For 2 die-hard Dodger fans it was the ultimate! we did the same thing 36 years ago in 1981 when the Dodgers beat the Yankees in the series but at a different venue where we had gone to the Bahamas for our honeymoon. Unfortunately the Dodgers weren't successful but what an epic game! GO DODGERS!!!
Made the mistake of going during the World Series. Very loud, everyone watching the game-- including some of the staff. I assume that's why service was a bit slow. Also, sadly although I told the reservations that it was our anniversary, we did not get our anniversary slice of cake :(.
The halibut was good and my wife enjoyed the pasta. Very tasty crab cakes. Good for a casual evening.
Our waitress Ashley was very friendly and attentive. We had the all you can eat sushi meal and she was quick to the table when we wanted to order more. The food was good and the ambiance nice an mellow. Overall a good experience and we would come back for dinner again.
I suggested Gladstone’s as something different than PF Chang’s, Cheesecake Factory, or Outback Steakhouse, which our friend suggested. A few of us had been there only once 6 years ago for a special occasion. I later felt so badly about our experience that I apologized to our friends for suggesting it. It bothered me for a couple of days. I really regretted ever going there and will never go again! It was a huge waste of money!
I was initially surprised at the high prices. Entries were $30 - $35, so I expected great tasting food. We were so disappointed!
The coconut shrimp appetizers were dry and over cooked. Our sea bass was sub par. Parts were dry and the edges were mushy. Definitely not melt-in-your-mouth like we’ve had elsewhere and like the server promised. My husband’s fried shrimp had such thick batter on it that it was more batter than shrimp! I asked for grilled shrimp cooked with garlic. They brought me grilled shrimp with a side of raw chopped garlic!
Our out of town guest requested her steak to be medium well. It was so charred on one side it was completely black. We encouraged her to send it back. She tried to eat it, but it was inedible. She sent it back. The server asked if he could bring her something while she waited. She asked for some grilled shrimp like what I had on my plate. He brought her a few small boiled shrimp! Definitely not the same thing! Her second steak was also charred, but a little less over cooked. She only ate a few bites. My daughter ordered the “1 1/2 lbs of lobster.” The lobster was also over cooked and rubbery.
Our server was initially very attentive, but after we got the check, he was awol. My husband spent time splitting the check until the server finally showed up and I asked him to do it. He reluctantly did and when he brought it back, it was incorrect. We had to wait even longer for him and his manager to figure it out and correct it.
Overall a horrible dining experience! Save your money and go elsewhere!
We eat here regularly and enjoy the location and menu. This was an anniversary dinner and was among the worst service we have had at this location. Slow to get the order and deliver drinks, slow to get food order and slower to have it delivered. When delivered it was not complete (missing a salad that was be delivered with the meal). Crab bisque is one of my favorites and it is still the best I get. In general found the servers, not attentive and lagging to fill water glasses and remove dirty dishes. I went walking to find a water pitcher for a refill. Even had one dish we moved off table to a an empty chair to make some room and it was still there when we left.
They did not seem overly busy, but this was not the service we have had in the past or expected. Seemed like plenty of people just not sure what they were doing. We even had one food server ask if he had our dish and we said no and he went walking off to find who it belonged to.
At first everything was fine, we were greeted promptly with smiling faces. After we were sat down, out waiter took a while to get to us, but we didn't mind too much at first. We weren't in a hurry. Right after we got our order, "clambowl for 2" which was pricy, and we started to eat, we were asked to be moved because a party of 18 was coming in. We wanted to be polite, and agreed, but after we moved, the server completely paid no attention to us. They left our utensils, candle, plates at the other table. Our water was not refilled a single time after we were moved and I had to ask the front counter for our check. Bad experience overall, mainly the service. I had high expectations, it just seemed like a party of 18 were more important customers than us.
Best first; server was terrific. Friendly, informative and experienced. All downhill from there. Don't be misled by the noise level being energetic, it was painful. Noise was deafening. I even suggested to the server that since he had been there so long, have his hearing checked since a hearing loss would entitle him to disability entitlements. The bartender substituted pina colada mix for a virgin margarita, which was sent back for a more appropriate lime juice receipe. Which was forthcoming. Food was good, that's about it. Did I say the noise was deafening? Well, deserves repeating. Won't be going back. Won't be recommending it to anyone, but will warn people who ask.
BEWARE COST OF VALET PARKING! We had an enjoyable time. The food was good as well as the service. We were happy with that. The views of the ocean and The Queen Mary are all very nice especially on a clear night.
My husband has a Disabled Placard and doesn't walk far. The parking in the area is not very good and we basically had no other choice than to Valet Park. After our nice dinner at Gladstones we got slammed with a $16 Valet charge.
We won't go back until the restaurant decides to take some responsibility for that.
I think this a great place to eat. It's on the water, fresh seafood, good selection of beer and wine. This was a family get together with my kids who are all older. I had the Shrimp Calamari Calzone which is a large Calamari Steak stuffed with shrimp, mozarella and spinach. This is a seasonal item, but like everything they do, it was delicious.
I have never been disappointed by Gladstone's in Long Beach. If the weather is nice, which it usually is, ask for a booth outside. There is a wonderful view of the lighthouse. The fish is consistently good, and the sourdough bread is to die for if you love carbs.
We were seated promptly at our reservation time of 3:15 on Sunday September 3rd. Service was prompt and we were not rushed by our server when we asked for additional time to enjoy our drinks and to decide what our menu choices were going to be.
Food was very good and was served at the appropriate temperatures. Most definitely will go back again.
We had an enjoyable dinner. It was a birthday celebration for two of our friends. I asked for a special table since it was a celebration & I had booked well in advance. After waiting anout 15 minutes, we were led to an "inferior" table outside of the main dining room. There were also lots of children in this room., which is not usually a problem for us, but not for this occasion. There were many open & cleared tables & booths in the main dining room and I went to the front desk twice to ask if could move but initially I was told no. Eventually the hostess "was kind enough" to move us to a 4 person booth which was empty and vacant by the window. This made our dinner more special & and was more like we had expected from Gladstones. Waiter was fine, nothing special but OKand the staff did do a birthday song and brought out a cotton candy to celebrat the birthdays. However our initial contact and they way we were handles left a lot to be desired.
