Waiter was pushing extra food and drink on us that we didn't want.
Out servers josh was fantastic!
This has been a favorite restaurant of ours when visiting the area. We had a terrible experience with our reservation. The hostess said there was a miscommunication between her and another person seating guests and our table was taken. More than 40 minutes went by before we were seated with little apologies and no attempt to make it up with a complimentary appetizer or drink. I was very disappointed with the lack of service and professionalism. The waiter was friendly enough but gave me the feeling we were keeping him from something more important!
the hostess was so incredible rude to us (middle age women) our waiter was good but she really put me off. she is the first person greeting you she should be pleasant and maybe smile.
Food was amazing! There is a mandatory 20% service charge (tip) for any group size and our server did almost nothing to deserve it except take our order properly
Pretty restaurant with a good vibe but the “no modifications” policy was disappointing especially because some one in our party had allergies and dietary restrictions. That’ll keep me from going back
Gjelina is a favorite spot. Always happy to have a meal here.
We finally got around to eating at Gjelina, and weren’t disappointed. The food, wine and service were excellent. As with most modern restaurants, it’s on the loud side, but the overall ambience is intimate and charming.
The food and service were fabulous. The room was a little dark, which made it difficult to read the menu.
It was more expensive than I thought by examining the the menu prices because of the add-ons which included the tip and health care as well as the sales tax. The glass of wine was expensive based on the amount of the pour. I did enjoy the food, the wait staff was attentive, and the overall experience was good.
It was overall great and squash blossom pizza was must eat. Grilled broccoli is surprise for me which I don’t usually like it but this time I love it. I also have lamb sausage pizza and I think it is bit salty for me but still I like it.
Was expecting an outstanding meal. Pizzas were okay and service bad. Ambience is very good though, good music, and perfect for a date.
The most upsetting and awful service experience. We just moved out to LA and had been so excited to try Gjelina. Unfortunately we had the meanest, angriest server and our appetizers took two hours to come.
This used to be a nice place but now service is terrible our waitress was more arrogant than a sales person at a chanel store and they force you to give a 20% tip. I wanted to give zero as this was really a terrible experience. Food was average and we actually left to finish our lunch elsewhere.. Will never go back or recommend it. We have an app with a city guide of LA and will take this place out of it asap!
the hostess with the super short hair was beyond rude.
Great food but below-par service (couldn’t-care-less kind of attitude)
Pork Belly was the highlight of the meal!
Everything fantastic - food especially was amazing -will only warn that indoors tables are tight together and noise level is loud - wasn’t an issue for us but some may not care for that aspect
Amazing mushroom pizza and my friend loved the duck entree.
Everything we had was outstanding!! The broccolini and squash pasta were fantastic. We also ordered pickled vegetables that were tasty.
The service here was amazing. We had many people helping us and they were only a foot or two away.
Although it was pricey, I would come back in a minute.
Love Gjelina overall. Our waiter was nice but a little absentee more than once.
Otherwise, great, as always. They also were kind to move our reservation to earlier which was nice!
The first time we visited Gjelina we had such a bad experience because of our waitress... unfortunately the manager had to get involved and we hadn’t revisited in years!! Flash forward 2 years later, we had such an amazing experience with a great waiter :) food was delicious, quick, and everyone had such a great time. Highly recommend Gjelina and their other brunch place Gjusta to anyone!!
Great food, very attentive staff. We had the buckwheat lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote and they were incredible. They were great shared too, alongside the baked Moroccan eggs. They have incredible coffee too.
Rude wait staff. The food wasn’t good
Birthday celebration from my bestie!
Had a great time; service as on point as well
I have been to Gjelina many times in the past, and the food this time was far inferior to any other time we have dined there. We sat inside (despite requesting an outside table) and it was very loud, and our service was poor.
I checked in about 15 minutes late for a 5.45pm reservation and the hostess took us tonite table then announced to all of us as we sat down that they had a 7.30pm reservation and we had to leave by then. First off, you always allow 2 hours for a group to eat, so we should have had until 7.45pm. Secondly, it was SO OFFPUTTING and rude and made us feel super unwelcome. Unfortunately the server also wasn’t attentive and made us feel rushed. Good and ambiance is great, but experience overall sucked. So rude.
Cadre sympa, service super, très bon repas
Gjelina is my favorite restaurant in Los Angeles and is always innovative and wonderful.
Hi, hostess/service was awful. Arrived at 845pm for 930pm reservation. The hostess says 'great, it looks like your table just got their tab and we'll have you seated shortly.' I check back in TWO times and still not ready to be seated. Now, finally at 10 PM (!!!), I go to hostess and begin to say how ridiculous this was, she basically told me she deleted my reservation, and that there was another group (4 ppl) with my same name and time and they called us out front but no one came, which I was standing out front the entire time waiting and continuously checked in. Overall food was alright, service= terrible.
It was nice as always but it is getting rather overpriced, especially for breakfast!
The food was delicious. I split it with a friend. We had the roasted fennel, the crispy duck leg which was over amazing chicory greens, and the roasted cauliflower. I was so tempted by the butterscotch pot de creme...but, alas, I am on the keto plan right now. The wine selection was nice. It was a bit too loud and a bit too dark (couldn’t read the menu). That being said, I’m looking forward to visiting again.
Amazing food and great atmosphere, super dark and moody space. Lives up to the hype
We liked it but didn’t love it. I’m gluten free and don’t eat meat so not many options unless you want a salad (I didn’t). Their sister restaurant has gluten free bread so maybe I’ll try that next tine but I doubt I’d be back unless they start offering GF (it is California - almost every spot has GF bread!). Also chef doesn’t allow any alterations- would remove onions from my smoked trout salad. Ugh that’s obnoxious.
I recently went to Gjelina with a friend for an early dinner before going to a seminar in Venice. We did not have reservations, though the dining room was pretty empty—it was early, remember—and we were told we could be seated if we were out by a certain time. Since we had to be elsewhere before that time, we said that wasn’t a problem. As I recall, they were a little slow to actually get menues to us and take our order & reading the menu in the almost pitch-dark room would have been a problem before cell-phone flash-lights.
The food was excellent. I want to make that clear.
However, I think it was the hostess who delivered our bill and informed us she had already added on a tip. There were two of us. I’ve not seen that done for groups of less than six before, and then only when it was clearly printed on the menu. Since it was less than I had planned to leave for a tip, I paid it and we went to our seminar, but the fact of it left a bad taste behind. I don’t know whether she did this because she thought women don’t tip enough or because I am older than their ideal demographic, or because we weren’t dressed up enough for cool Venice or because my companion was a woman of color. Since my sister and I eat out together all the time and this has never happened to us, I am left with the feeling that racism was at the bottom of our treatment.
Despite the excellent food, I will never return to this restaurant. Nor will I recommend it to anyone. I will instead let people know about the entirely unprofessional action of the staff member.
Excellent food, perfect ambiance. 'Must eat' place when you are around!
We loved Gjelina! Our waiter was wonderful! The food was absolutely fantastic!
Gjelina has always been one of my favorite restaurants due to tasty vegetable dishes & incredible pizza & delicious desserts. All was well this time until we got to the dessert which was not worthy of the cost @ $12 for a small parfait. The final disappointment was the automatic service charge of 20% which did not exist the last time we dined there. Sadly, I won't be dining there again.
It is impossible to get a table at gjlena so when I finally did I was so excited. However, upon our reservation we had to wait inside in the corner for about 20 minutes before our table was ready. There was no room to hold their guests while they waited for their table. Upon being seated our server never introduced himself. The lighting was bad so you can't see the menu which is in small print many people were taking out their cell phones to read it. We ordered a pizza for the table and each ordered a dish. The food was good, but not worth everything else
