Wonderful gem of a find that was recommended by a wine bar in downtown Boston. Every dish was delicious!
Best Italian food we've had in Boston - very rich and flavorful food, and even better service. Hard to get a reservation but well worth the wait.
Excellent Italian food. Great hand-made pasta with local ingredients. Highly recommended.
Excellent food and service. Cannot emphasize how happy I was with the experience.
Worth the planning ahead to get that reservation. Everything is yummy - feels like you are in Italy.
Great meal, small portions, not worth the high price. Gonto Scampo for best Italian in Boston.
This was highly anticipated and the appetizer of Octopus was excellent with a complex sauce and the bread and olive oil was also quite fabulous. The octopus grilling was authentic and the only thing I would suggest is put it on top of the sauce. We then had pasta and my wife loved her mushroom and truffle dish. Mine was OK. Too rich. Dessert was also very nice. Very good but not sure for a special occasion as a hard reservation apparently.
The perfect meal.
Had a very nice dinner celebrating our anniversary. The quality of food is excellent, portions are a little small on some items. The manager and staff are very attentive and knowledgeable. This is my second time visiting, it is almost impossible to get a decent reservation online through open table however when we were there it appear there were several available tables during most of our meal. I will call the restaurant directly next time. I would recommend Giulia and will return, parking is a little difficult.
Perfect as always!!
Exceptional service and food, and a well-curated wine list. We go out a ton, and our bar for Italian is set high (we frequent Erbaluce). Giulia knocks our socks off! My steak (listed as “beef” on the menu this week) was of quality on par with the best steakhouses, but the set and presentation was far more inspired. Our crudo and octopus apps were really balanced and interesting. My boyfriend enjoyed what looked like a very labor-intensive lasagna. We ordered a really beautiful wine (IL Georgioni, bonarda —very different from South American ones) that I’m still thinking about days later. Loved everything about it. Oh-and I have food allergies, and they handled it with grace and caution; I feel safe eating there.
Fantastic, creative Italian cuisine! Our server was very knowledgeable and helped us make great choices. The bagna cauda was outstanding and we also loved the chicken liver crostini. House made pastas and gelato are not to be missed.
Loved everything about it, the appetizers pasta and fish.. there wasn’t anything we didn’t like. Server was amazing to match the excellent food. Already thinking of going back!
Every dish was a flavor explosion. I could have stopped with the exquisite chicken liver crostini and died happy. If you are a fan of pate, this will amaze. The culurgiones, feather light and bursting with creamy potato and salt cod, kissed by a bold sauce of fresh tomato, garlic, olives and capers will transport you to a fishing village on the Sardinian coast. My dining partners loved the almond torta dessert. Service was impeccable and unobtrusive. If I lived in the area, I would try every dish on the menu. Thanks for a great evening!
It’s always a pleasure to dine at Giulia. They should teach seminars on how to run a proper restaurant. Trevor and all his staff are as top notch as the dishes they serve. I haven’t been to Italy yet but I’ve never had better Italian food anywhere ever. We’ve been 6x and I’ve ordered the The Bucatini with Pancetta each and every time. We just got home and I miss the food already! Go now even if the only reservation is at 5:45 p.m.
My husband and two friends enjoyed a fabulous meal at Giulia. The food and cocktails are delicious, and the service is perfection!
Loved it! Will be back!
Even in a city full of outstanding restaurants, Giulia stands out. The atmosphere is cozy, the service friendly and well informed, the wine list full of distinguished wines you've never tried and the food--oh, my goodness. The food is amazing. Three of us shared appetizers: small, soft semolina cakes crowned in truffle shavings, a crisp flatbread with pesto and pine nuts and a rangy, rich preparation of octopus. My companions then had the pappardelle with wild boar and raved about it. I chose the agnolotti stuffed with slightly sweet parsnips and ricotta, surrounded by chanterelle mushrooms, arugula and a buttery lemon sauce. It was divine. If you can't manage a dessert on your own, share one. They are too good to be missed. Plan your visit well in advance. We are not the only ones who think this is the best restaurant in Cambridge.
This was my second time at Giulia. The food is really the star. The waitstaff was informative and fine. But the hostess who "greeted" us with a scowl and pointed to our table (without walking us there) really set a bad tone. Not a good way to start the night!
Wonderful food, wonderful service! I have wanted to eat here for a year, could never get a red at a convenient time. But FINALLY! Loved it!
Absolutely superb. Service wonderful; food outstanding. Not cheap, but tremendous value.
Best italian food I ever had and one of the best casual restaurant experiences of all time. I did not want to believe the extraordinary reviews of other guests but it really was excellent in every aspect.
As anyone who really knows excellent cuisine will tell you, it is nigh on impossible to find anything remotely resembling world class food in Boston. You could say this is a city with growing pains, but it shows in the quality of restaurant around here. I’m my almost 7 years in this city, I had yet to find a single meal that didn’t turn promptly to dust in my mouth. You name any type of food, Italian, Japanese, middle eastern, and Boston will find some way to screw it up. Michelin has scorned this city and won’t touch it with a 6 foot pole. And I agree.
This was my first trip to Giulia and it was a revelation. World class food and service not unlike some of the best restaurants I have eaten at, and a devotion to quality rivaling any great NYC 5-star establishment. The chefs and staff are passionate about the food and the service they provide and it absolutely shows. Perfectly crafted dishes, light yet filling, and full of flavor. Bread with imported olive oil, and your water glass is never empty. Try the warm semolina cakes, and bagna cauda (fresh veggies with anchovy). Will blow you away. Pasta dishes are flavorful and inventive, and they make great use of fresh imported ingredients. They also cook a mean mackerel. Super tender with imported fresh anchovies from Italy (not salty!). Dessert was also fantastic, with a great mix of sorbets, almond cakes, and polenta. Try everything!
Service was so attentive, and the staff really made us feel like they were not above us. They talked with us, gave us recommendations, and were so friendly and patient while we navigated the novel menu items for great things to try. We always had bread, water, and our food as soon as it was ready. When talking about Boston, that’s a rarity!
All in all, Giulia is a gem of a restaurant in a city of mediocrity. Took me a long time to get a reservation at this place but I’m glad to report that it was well worth it. Thank you all so much for everything. It was honestly amazing.
Great food! Service was subpar. Asked for recommendations on wine (everything is Italian bottles only and in Italian) waitress said she would bring over the manager who was an expert. Manager tells her he is too busy so just then to choose what they want.
Husband asked for a black napkin instead of white because had on black shirt and they had no idea what he was talking about.
Food made up for the service. Likely would never return
The food was outstanding from start to finish. There are probably a couple of minor things that could be done to spruce up the ambience, but overall minor in the grand scheme of things. Will definitely be going back.
I booked this restaurant almost a month in advance on OpenTable and it was well worth the wait. The pasta dishes
Wonderful neighborhood restaurant. The food is great, as is the service.
The food was first rate - innovative but not annoying. The waitstaff were fantastic. I would however urge the greeters / host people to also convey a warm welcome rather than a frosty gatekeeper mien.
I was really looking forward to dinner here but the hostess
First I have to say the a/c was not working and it was 90+ degrees outside! It would have been nice to have a heads up about this or been offered a complimentary cooling option. While I'm sure the staff were sweating like crazy (and I do feel bad for that), the servie was great - very friendly. Food was tasty and I love eating a filled pasta that doesn't make you feel like you just ate a bag of sand. Everything tasted fresh!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Boston! The Chef continues to deliver above expectations and it was nice to have my parents over to experience the tasting menu. What a pleasant experience. On another note the service at the restaurant is amazing. Amy our experience guide, makes enjoyable our time and it is tremendous the way she speaks about food. Definitely, a well-marked moment in my families stay in Boston.
Waitress was fantastic offering suggestions and descriptions of choices. The appetizers and main course were outstanding.
Incredible meal. Get the pasta with boar and the pistachio gelato! <3 <3
Guilia is my all time favorite restaurant!!!!!It is soo hard to get a reservation, but very worth the wait!!!!
One of the nicest dining experiences we have had in a very long time. Food was delicious- service was outstanding (thanks Jess).
Love every minute
We came from SF to Giulia for dinner, my second annual visit before a week at the beach. From the wee semolina cakes with fava bean purée and white truffles to my agnolotti and morels I was delighted. Seasonings were deft, the flavors rich, textures and finish of each bite satisfying. Timing of food, excellent delivery and recommendations by our server for a wine that was less “spendy” but a better pairing convinced me of her dedication to our dining experience. I know when I continue to think of a dinner that I am beyond satisfied. This whole review could be about the pistachio ice cream with the dark cherry sauce sparingly nestled underneath the cream. Most likely it will be wait until next year but if you are in town I couldn’t recommend it higher.
Spectacular as always!
Found out about Giulia's a couple of years ago. We love this place. All dishes are wonderful! From the sfiizzi to dessert, everything is so flavorful! Our 2 adult sons love it as well.
This has also led us to its sister restaurant a few times, when we couldn't get a reservation, at Giulia's, with the same experience.
My only criticism of Giulia's was how hot the restaurant was this last visit.
Unbelievable restuarant.. Food excellent.. Service excellent.. Reasonable price.. will be going back.
