Lovely restaurant, attentive and friendly staff, home style Italian cooking, hearty and tasty.
Very attentive service and reasonable prices. Located in the basement of a more residential area. The veal and chicken parm were very good.
Great Food with excellent service. Our server was attentive but not over attentive. The food reminded me of that which we enjoyed in Venice and Sardinia. Nice atmosphere.
We loved our evening at Giovanni's. The atmosphere was cozy, the food was fabulous and the service was top notch and prices were reasonable. I highly recommend Giovannis!
Thank you another wonderful evening. I brought a business colleague to my favorite DC secret restaurant and of course, they did not disappoint. Friendly service, great food, quiet atmosphere to have important conversations - all make for a recipe for a successful evening!
We were walking by and decided to stop in. We were seated promptly and service was excellent. The food was good though not as spicy as we like but that is just our preference. The portions were a good size, enough to be satisfying but not enough to feel over full. Over all, it was a pleasant experience.
Wonderful meal, service, and atmosphere. Cozy but not cramped. Truly a neighborhood gem. Will definitely return.
The food was good, definitely made in house, but not worth the price. Also the service was slow; it took 20 minutes for us to just get water. However, our waitress was very nice when she was around.
We came here for Valentine’s Day and had a wonderful dinner! The service was awesome, the food delicious, and we enjoyed our evening immensely. The noise level is moderate, which we didn’t mind, but is something to take into consideration if you are looking for a quiet restaurant.
My wife and I went to celebrate Valentine's Day. The pre-fix menu was innovative and very appealing. The wine selection complemented the entrees and both the red and white we were served were delicious in their own right. This restaurant is a real gem!
The food was really good but they gave us huge portions which on a normal night would be great because that means left overs the next day. Only at this restaurant I asked our waitress numerous times to wrap up our food but she ended up dumping both mine and my girlfriend's food. That was probably $20 in food just thrown away. The only compensation they offered was to make one meal again which I refused because I didn't have time to wait. They also offered dessert which I agreed to but when the waitress returned to the table she only brought 1. I was furious at this point, A. 1 dessert costs $7.50 and B. They didn't bring one for my girlfriend. The food was great but because of the service I don't think I will be returning to this restaurant.
The restaurant smelled like dog, noticeable from the first step inside the door. Food was good, but we were the only people in the restaurant at 6 PM on a Saturday night.
Excellent in every way ! Great food, attentive service, warm welcome, fully respected our discussion & privacy. Look forward to recommending & coming back !
I had eaten at this restaurant many many years ago and was hoping I would be as impressed as last time. The food was good but I would not say it was outstanding. The service was excellent, but the restaurant is dated. It was sad to see only a few diners. I can't help but think if they updated their look it would be better attended.
Had overseas friends staying at Dupont Circle Hotel and wanted a dinner place close by. It had been about 15 years since I had been to Trattu and I had good memories of it. I was quite pleased to find it largely unchanged. Service was prompt, menu was varied enough to give lots of choices and both food and value were great. A little noisy, but that's because it was packed on a Thursday night, a good sign that they maintain a good customer base.
Great food, but there was an permeating stench in the restaurant, most likely mold because it is in a basement. The smell was strongest in the bathrooms, which were not very clean. My overall impression was too marred by the smell to ever go back
Fan Favorite! I always try to stop in for a dinner when I'm in town. A nice change from the typical DC scene. A small, intimate place with outstanding service and food. Whether it's a slow night or the restaurant is full, the quality remains the same. Step inside and your blood pressure immediately goes down. You will not be disappointed in this relaxing little gem.
Giovanni's Trattu is a great option for a quiet dinner in what is otherwise a neighborhood populated by overpriced steakhouses. Is it the best meal you'll ever have? Probably not, but good food at good value.
Wow. I was very surprised at the food after reading the good reviews. Yukky frozen calamari, overcooked pasta, slow service (despite being only half full). Not a good value at all.
Fish stew and veal were very well prepared; service was lackluster; no bread with olive oil was brought to the table until after drink orders came and I had to ask. No little extra touches of helpfulness. Quality of food good.
Bright, cozy, authentic traditional Italian neighborhood restaurant in a small space. High caliber service and good food. Tables are very close to one another, so don't plan on private conversation. We had the gnocchi and the fresh ravioli; both were excellent. The menu seems unlimited and covers all traditional fare. Service was very attentive and friendly. Prices were a little high but otherwise family-friendly. Great location two short blocks south of DuPont Circle.
A little out of the way spot, but the food was delicious and the service was extremely friendly. A great place for a great, laid-back meal.
. Excellent meal. We love the ambience and the service. Will be back.
A real gem. Authentic cuisine from the Veneto area of Italy and beyond. Staff is friendly, attentive, but not intrusive. A great value.
Great meal at a reasonable price. Our waitress, Lilly, was friendly and attentive. A wonderful Italian meal in a nice neighborhood.
In all the years I’ve lived in DC, I never knew this restaurant existed, tucked away on a small street off Connecticut Avenue between Dupont Circle and Farragut. We were meeting an old friend for dinner and looking for a quiet spot. Giovanni’s Trattu filled the bill, a sweet Italian neighborhood restaurant that looks like a throwback to another era, homey and European with a touch of festivity. The service was welcoming and the food was good. I especially liked the spinach that accompanied my veal marsala, and our friend enjoyed the agnolotti with mushrooms. The food won’t set the world on fire, but the overall experience was very congenial.
Great internet find...it's easy to see why it's an established eatery! Thanks for the great evening.
Great food, very nice service. Relative small and little space for privacy.
It was a birthday dinner. Everything about Giovanni’s Trattu is fantastic. The owners are often there and greet diners and make sure all is to their pleasing. It’s a hidden gem in DC.
Excelent service and food. Wine list is authentic Italian a good prices. Great neighborhood restaurant 😃
One of DC's best kept secrets. A gem of an Italian restaurant. Authentic cuisine served by a delightful staff.
Food was good, not great but maybe depended on what you ordered. Service was very good. We just went for a quick, early dinner as had other plans for the night so didn't linger to enjoy dessert.
The waitress we had was very helpful and so knowledgeable about both entree and wine options. The food is delectable.
We haven’t been here in many years and were quite pleased to discover this gem still cooking up great fare in the same enticing hide-away. Love it.
My wife's gnocchi was very good. My linguine with mixed seafood was bland and the shrimp was tough. The waitress did comp us the wine when I commented to her about my dish and I appreciated that.
Always reliably good food; excellent, charming, and attentive service. It’s just a lovely spot for a quiet dinner.
Could not have not had a better dinner or experience. The food was fantastic. Service was prompt but never intrusive. Always friendly. Perfect environment for sharing good wine, good food and great conversation with friends. Will definitely go back next time in D.C.
We had a great time dining here. The hostess was remarkably welcoming, the food very good, service timing but not rushed. They made us feel special without hovering over us. Thoroughly enjoyable and would recommend for those who desire a quiet, peaceful meal with good food.
Our anniversary date here was perfect. The staff was incredibly sweet and accommodating, and the food was heavenly. It's a quiet, cozy and intimate spot with a huge variety of authentic Italian dishes and desserts. It just might become our anniversary spot every year.
Traffic has been a favorite of mine since opening and I love taking new friends there to surprise them and especially love returning with people who know and love it. Never disappointed!!
Very nice atmosphere and wonderful dinner and friendly service
