About Giovanni's Trattu
Giovanni's Trattu may be the only restaurant in DC to capture the feel of Venice. Formerly known as Trattu, this cozy little restaurant provides the lighter cuisine of Northern Italy, which is known for its unique flavor. The extensive menu changes every fall, winter and summer. Seating 60 in the main dining room, Giovanni's Trattu is candlelight at night and it entertains guests with live music from a guitarist/singer who roams from table to table, providing the perfect sound for any occasion. Highlighting the ambiance is a collection of colorful pottery and venetian masks that hangs from the walls. While Giovanni's Trattu is ideal for private parties, guests who seek a more intimate experience may sit at one of two tables in the small out door garden.

Giovanni's Trattu Ratings and Reviews
Was surprised at how crowded the restaurant was on Christmas Eve. On-street parking spaces were plentiful on my walk to and from Giovanni's Trattu, which is unusual on a Saturday night here in DC's Golden Triangle. Started with a very tasty mushroom soup-of-the-day and got the rigatoni with sausage for my entrée. Service was friendly and efficient. When the waitress delivered my second after-dinner drink, she noted with a smile that she should have asked if I were driving. I assured her I lived nearby, "within crawling distance".
Quaint, comfortable, authentic. I dined there for a quiet birthday celebration and felt welcomed and well taken care of during my experience. One of the servers was seemingly Italian and I felt as if I were back there again.
The food was authentic and amazing. I highly reccomemd dining there.
Appetizers were great - calamari was tender and not chewy. Everyone really liked their meal. We would highly recommend that POLLO ROLLATO ALLA BIONDA and the LINGUINE ALLE VONGOLE PICCANTI. Service was very good also. Thanks for a great evening. We would highly recommend this restaurant.
I was looking for a good & reasonable Italian restaurant in the DC area. This restaurant was such a nice surprise!! It was so quaint. The Eggplant appetizer was very good. The Fettuccine Bolognese was excellent. The Chicken Marsala, even though it had no mushrooms it was really delicious!
Dessert was heavenly... Canoli Tiramisu.
Wine by the bottle is reasonable & the staff was outstanding!!
We will be back!
A wonderful menu and the staff were very helpful when I and my friend both chose to order off-menu.
We had dinner on a Saturday night and the restaurant was full and lively. Service was a little patchy. The veal milanese was spectacular... just like mama makes it. Will definitely dine there again.
This has become one of our go to spots when in DC. Overall we really love it, but occasionally there is an unexpected disappointment. Last month it was the waitress; usually everyone is very attentive and pleasant, she was rude and severely lacking. This last visit we placed one order for osso buco. The meat was unedible. We later found out it was to be the last order of this dish for the evening. We sat down at 6:30 so I think this was a judgment error on the part of the chef. I will try again one more time since the food is so good when everyone is executing properly.
A recent dinner at Giovanni's Trattu confirmed that it remains one of Washington's finest, but generally unknown Italian restaurants. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. The service is outstanding. I can recommend this restaurant with great enthusiasm.
I thought the whole experience was outstanding. I enjoyed the food, the service and would come back often. I will strongly recommend this restaurant to all my family and friends. They will have a great time. There are not many Italian restaurants in the DC/Baltimore area and I have added this to my list of favorites.
Always reliable...I visit Giovanni's every time I'm in DC. This time, I met family members who also dined there about 7 years ago....and the hostess remembered them! Such a warm, welcoming, authentically Italian environment. Food and service are excellent. We lingered long after dinner and no one rushed or bothered us. My only concern was the faint odor of something old or moldy; but not enough to keep me away.
It's easy to miss this little gem, as it's on a small street between 18th and 19. But what a wonderful destination. Terrific food - the osso bucco and veal saltimboca were excellent. The service is friendly and attentive without being overbearing. It's a small place, so make a reservation. You see people in both fancy and semi-casual clothes - everyone is treated as family. This is my new neighborhood fave!
Dined here often when we lived in the District, so dinner tends to be a trip down memory lane. It did not disappoint! Trattu remains a reliable source for solidly good Italian comfort food, with friendly service in a cheerful, homey environment. Salads were fresh and nicely dressed, pasta appropriately al dente, chicken parm a traditional staple.
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday. Neither one of us had ever dined here before but after our first visit we'll certainly be back! You could tell that our meal was made from scratch and was wonderfully prepared, and they were kind enough to bring us a complementry desert. A slightly larger wine selection is the only recommendation that we could make. Wonderful place to eat with great ambiance and I highly recommend it.
I really loved this place! The owner was very friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent. I had the Trout special, which was delicious - much better than I expected. It is a small place below street level, so it is quiet; you wouldn't know you were in downtown DC. Strongly recommend.
