Giorgio's Ristorante - South Orange Ratings and Reviews
Staff always helpful and the food is excellent. We had a special angle hair pasta with chunks of salmon and broccoli rabe. They split our salad order which was more then enough for two.
Great biscotti and coffee for desert.
Great place for dinner before a SOPAC show.
After all these years, Giorgio's is still one of our favorite places to dine.
Excellent food AND service EVERY TIME!!!
This time, there was a large birthday party in the private room and in spite of this, the service was terrific, thanks to Ruben, and our dinners were promptly served.
Everything on the menu is a total delight.
We were seated at a quiet table where we were able to talk. The server was very attentive and knew we were discussing business so she only came by when absolutely necessary.
We all had salads for lunch. Everything was well prepared and looked very appetizing. It tasted even better. Topped it off with an excellent cappuccino.
Will be back.
This restaurant is beautiful, magnificent, delicious and outstanding. This restaurant is actually my favorite restaurant in New Jersey. South Orange is also my favorite town in New Jersey as well. The atmosphere is beautiful both inside and outside, with a beautiful gas lamp right across the street. The table cloths, napkins, antique chairs, antique wall portraits, and the outdoor decorations are magnificent. The servers are polite, observant and caring. Whenever I was running out of water or bread the servers gave me more right away. The food is delicious. I had a penne alla russa and cannoli and it was the best that I ever tasted. I even had to take some penne alla russa home with me. If you dine outside the restaurant, you can see the beautiful sunset and moon. The parking right behind the restaurant was fine as well. They even played beautiful calm jazz and classical music in the loudspeaker. The customers around me seemed very happy and friendly. I would definitely dine in this restaurant again for as long as I can. I recommend this restaurant for anyone who admires upper class dining and calm music.
It is Friday, 7:55 PM and we (four) were the only patrons in the place besides a woman, who was dining alone. We thought to leave and go elsewhere but I suggested we stay. BIG MISTAKE. Our waiter was inept, forgetful and condescending. He was a grumpy old man who looked as if he wanted to go home because the place was empty. We ordered fried calamari with 2 sauces, hot and sweet, he only brought 1 sauce, we had to ask again for the hot sauce. The calamari was "perfectly rubbery"almost inedible. We ordered sausage and broccoli rabe which never arrived. The waiter argued that we never ordered this appetizer, as he rolled his eyes. When it finally came, the broccoli rabe was helplessly over done, floating in some kind of tasteless water and had the color of seaweed. The two, Caesar and tricolor salads which we split were warm, wilted and tasteless, so we had to ask for additional dressing. The veal chop entrees, were not inexpensive but the quality of the meat was. The chop had a lot of gristle and the presentation was lack luster. The other two entrees were even less noteworthy. What a disaster of an evening. Our waiter should retire because he was not a good face for the restaurant. Now I know why the place was empty. We will never return.
We came here for a low-key birthday celebration and ate outside on a beautiful night. The service was wonderful, the food was delicious and being able to eat al fresco is always great. The restaurant itself could use a refresh cosmetically but that shouldn't deter anyone - it's a great place!!
Compared to other Jersey venues in the moderate price range, Giorgio's offers a fairly nice atmosphere and standard Italian-American fare. Nothing stands out as either special or terrible. The decor in the main dining room is cozy and tasteful, and the room is well appointed with a Mediterranean feel. However, the main room can get quite noisy. So, the alternative is to ask for the other dining room--which is darker and lacks personality. As far as the food goes, it's OK. The portobello mushroom salad and the shrimp Francaise with pasta could have been more flavorful--which is pretty much what I would say about other dishes that I've had as well.
Italian food in a cozy atmosphere
This BYOB restaurant has beautiful windows and nice lighting for an intimate Italian dinner. The food was good. For starters, the house salad was basic and mussels were a good choice. For the main courses, the lamb chops were ok, but a bit tuff. The veal eggplant dish, served with deep fried potato slices, broccoli and carrots was good. It was a nice spot for a dinner prior to going to SOPAC.
Another South Orange gem.
Every meal here is a TOTAL delight.
Excellent food, ambiance and warm AND friendly knowledgeable service by Reuben assure that you'll be more than satisfied EVERY TIME you dine here.
You MUST try the homemade style made in restaurant Italian cheese cake---
They also feature the most reasonable prices any where in this area
I booked my reservations online for Valentines Day for my wife and I to have dinner. I reviewed the menu online as well and found very good dish options to choose from at reasonable prices. Giorgio's website did not specify that Valentines Day would be a prefixed menu with a fixed price! When we arrived and was seated for dinner is when we noticed the prefix menu and price. This to me is a bait and switch tactic and Giorgio's Ristorante failed to mention this on their website for Valentine's . I noticed a number of couples questioned and had the same issue, once seated. As a matter of fact, one couple actually put their coat on and walked back out after bringing this matter to the attendant/matradee attention. My wife and I just moved in town and wanted to experience Giorgio's Ristorante and we were disappointed with the bait and switch due to the mark up in price for Valentines Day which was not noted on their website. My wife was extremely disappointed. Not cool.
