Our first time at Giorgione and not our last. We had none of the problems that some reviewers have noted; in fact, our experience was just about perfect. We began with cocktails and wine, followed by a shared meal: salad mista, pizza, and tiramisu and ending with a double espresso each. So many Italian restaurants in NYC: this is one not to be missed.
Food was excellent. Staff were very attentive and pleasant. Would definitely return. The pastas were a normal sized portion which is not what you usually get. Lots of great ingredients in the salads and pastas. Would recommend the flourless chocolate cake for dessert but it was more like a brownie than the traditional creamy cake. Still excellent for any chocolate lover.
Previously we had two great evenings at Giorgione. This time food was again very good, but service was not. Main course came when we had not yet finished the starters and the place was cleaned up very noiseful while we had our dinner. Decoration of the meals on the plate was also done in a sloppy way.
Maybe Management has changed between this and our last experience
You would be remiss if you never ate here. I do so love this restaurant. They never disappoint me. Great Italian food. Not red sauce... A little bit of red sauce will slip in but it is really good. Great seafood bar, wines, pasta, fish... Actually, everything is wonderful. Relaxed great food. Warm and attentive service. Feels like central or northern Italy.
We had a 9:45 reservation on a Sat, so on the late side, we arrived early, but it was clear that the staff was totally focused on shutting down, even though the stated hours are until midnight. All around us, menus, table settings and napkins were being gathered, they all but plucked the salt off of our table, the bread station was dismantled, the bar mats were being hosed down, etc. While the food was great, it is way too expensive to feel like you're at a take-out joint.
We thought the food was good, but nothing out of this world . My biggest criticism was with the service. Our servers were not at our table more than 2 times at most. Not the best if you're looking for nice ambiance either. I can't say I would recommend this restaurant to friends. ..or anyone. Sorry to sound harsh. Find another place.
Giorgione isn't what it used to be. We used to love it and went there frequently. Haven't been back in a while, so we were shocked at how truly bad the food has become: a gummy, tasteless frito misto, a green salad with peaches that was also tasteless, a mozarella bufala with a weird grainy texture and tough tomatoes.....hmm. Just not up to its old standards. Even the wait person seemed bored and indifferent. Too bad -- it's still a very pleasant place to sit, and when you read the menu, you're dying to eat everything on it, but then the actual food when it comes is.....so disappointing.
We had a HORRENDOUS meal. Decisively the wrong night... The waiter, a tall guy with his shirt a size smaller to emphasise his muscles I suppose, couldn't be less friendly. Long face and kind of impatient. Two of us were still finishing the antipasto when the second course for the other two friends arrived....We kindly asked them to send the plates back and bring them when everybody was ready for second course! So they did but when my branzino arrived, beside the fact that it looked absolutely unappealing (a big piece of fish smashed on the plate with nothing else around...it looked pretty weird and not a bit inviting). The dressing was absent and it was simply RAW. We asked to talk to the manager and he sent all the fish plates back to the kitchen: they prepared it (or they just heated them up in microwave...more like it). At that point the waiter disappeared and we were left absolutely alone the whole time (we had to ask the manager to please bring our bottle of wine at the table as the waiter was not around anymore to pour it!!). After a good 30 minutes a different waiter brought the dessert menu and we ordered 2 portion of cakes (nothing to write home about...). Before we left, we told the manager that the waiter had been unbelievably out of line and we intended to leave NO tip (it never, ever happened to me in NY not to leave any tip at all). the manager didn't really apologise, didn't even said he would have talked to the waiter...nothing (perhaps they're good friends) but he said we should do how we see fit...And so we did. There is no doubt : we will never go back and will always make sure friends don't pick this place. Very disappointing. (The check arrived on time. They offered the 2 dessert but decisively it was not enough).
Food seemed thoughtful and space and music were pleasant, but service was abysmal relative to the dining experience the restaurant seemed intent on providing: uninterested, absent, neglectful, patronizing at times, argumentative at others, making no illusion as to their eagerness to clock out be elsewhere.
What a great find! Everything we ate was fantastic (the bistecca, brussel sprouts, pizza, and salad), and the cocktails were great. Most notably though, our server was waiting on a certain celebrity, and we had no idea until closer to the end of the meal (which is to say he did not reveal the information, nor did he make us feel like second class customers for the night). Very impressive compared to the normal celebrity sighting experience. Go here, enjoy, and eat as much as you can.
