Gioco pioneered the retail development of the South Loop when it opened in September of 1999. The restaurant has been a mainstay in the neighborhood as other restaurants and stores have opened up over the years. Gioco is located in an historic building built in 1890 and is one of the few remaining buildings in Chicago from that era. The Gioco space features the original old brick and plaster walls, an old wooden walk-in cooler and a walk-in safe built into the wall, used by the Chicago gangsters (Al Capone, Frank Nitti, George "Bugs" Moran and Earl "Hymie" Weiss ) for one of the gambling and/or brothel houses that dominated the area in the early 1900s. Designer Jerry Kleiner designed Gioco restaurant to retain these old world elements and to feature them in his modernization of the space. Cuisine: Gioco's menu offers rustic Italian dishes prepared with the finest available seasonal products. The menu features homemade pastas and wood-fired thin crust pizzas.

Absolutely superb in every way. The food was delissimo, our server Sam was attentive, helpful but not intrusive, and we found the ambience unpretentiously pleasing, authentic, and conducive to conversation. Our group of family members loved it.

The exposed brick walls makes it feel like an original Chicago dining experience. The service is attentive and knowledgeable. The wine list offers many affordable options. The food was served quickly and was delicious. The favorites from our evening were the lamb chops and ravioli. Be sure to ask for a tour to see the “old time” connection to Chicago’s mob days.

Our table was ready before we arrived, and beautifully set. Our 4 year old toddler was joining us, and they promptly brought a kids-friendly cup for his water. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable about the wines, menu, and attentive to our table. We ordered salads, main courses (a pasta and fish), as well as dessert. They even brought our son a single scoop of ice-cream (gelato) on the house. It was an amazing dinging experience.

Gioco is one of my favorite places in the South Loop. Being Italian, I appreciate the simple menu and seasonal options. It is not too filling. The olive oil, infused with rosemary and garlic is drinkable! I bring many friends, family and customers here when I am in Chicago.

This place continues to impress me. The food is fantastic, the staff is excellent, and the atmosphere is cozy and elegant but not pretentious. The wine is great and the menue is small enoigh that they can focus in quality dished but big enough that tou get good selection. This is by far my new favorite place! Neighborhoid gem!

I absolutely adore Gioco!! A true neighborhood gem with all the charm and ambience I could want. Authentic, delicious food and great wines. Our waiter was very helpful and attentive. Since moving into the neighborhood over a year ago, I have heard rumors that this lovely spot might close down and I pray that it is only a rumor!! Please do not go -- stick around and soon our nabe will be so booming that you will be turning people away. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!

Gioco is the best kept secret in the South Loop. Excellent variety of delicious menu options and perfectly prepared. Service is outstanding. We eat there every week and it is always a special treat. Give it a try. You won’t be sorry!

Gioco very rarely disappoints but doesn't "wow" either. We love that it is a neighborhood gem but we would like for the menu to be expanded beyond the current offering. We always have to ask for bread and we suggest that a small salad should be included in light of the entree and pasta prices (especially for pasta dishes). My other beef with Gioco is the tiny olives they use for martinis...you need a magnifying glass to see them (and they offer little taste).

This restaurant is consistently very good. The wait staff are very nice and attentive. I go regularly with my daughter a college student and they recognize us and always greet us warmly.

They refer to it as "from the Berkeley" I have no idea what that means, but it's an assortment of meats and cheeses. It is awesome! Parking is just a few doors down for $10, valet on the weekends.

Probably below average in cost for loop restaurants.

I was at this restaurant about a year ago and thought the lamb chops were the best I had ever eaten......Went there again last Saturday, and they still are the best lamb chops I have ever eaten. Although it is a little pricey, well worth it. Delicious
