Gioco pioneered the retail development of the South Loop when it opened in September of 1999. The restaurant has been a mainstay in the neighborhood as other restaurants and stores have opened up over the years. Gioco is located in an historic building built in 1890 and is one of the few remaining buildings in Chicago from that era. The Gioco space features the original old brick and plaster walls, an old wooden walk-in cooler and a walk-in safe built into the wall, used by the Chicago gangsters (Al Capone, Frank Nitti, George "Bugs" Moran and Earl "Hymie" Weiss ) for one of the gambling and/or brothel houses that dominated the area in the early 1900s. Designer Jerry Kleiner designed Gioco restaurant to retain these old world elements and to feature them in his modernization of the space. Cuisine: Gioco's menu offers rustic Italian dishes prepared with the finest available seasonal products. The menu features homemade pastas and wood-fired thin crust pizzas.

It was ok. Cool to know the information of how Al Pacino used to run the place but i would of expected way more out of the food. Not that great. I thought the margarita would not have red sauce. It had red sauce and no tomatoes.

Our group of three arrived at 6:15 for a 6:30 reservation and were seated promptly. We ordered two apps and a mushroom pizza, one cocktail and a bottle of nice Italian red wine. The bill was $135 including tax. We were there for 2 1/2 hours and never rushed as we caught up with friends. It is a nice place with good food, drinks, and wine with an open kitchen. The service was attentive but not obtrusive. It is recommended.

We have dined here numerous times since it opened and we understand that the restaurant may close in the near future. We cannot understand why. Every single food that we tried on this visit was exquisite, perfect and oh so tasty! The flavors were subtle and complex. We absolutely loved our dinner; all of it! Service was quiet, warm and completely available.

We will hate to lose this restaurant. Go if you have not already done so. You will be so happy you did!

Amazing attentive service from the entire staff. Also the best margarite pizza I've ever had in my 30 yes in Chicago. Perfect flavor and thin crust. Yum!

This has become one of our favorite restaurants Great food and service and the wine list is a good Italian mix that you will find to your liking The waiters are always knowledgeable and on target

This may seem south....but don't miss it. It is only a 5 min cab ride from Michigan Ave and Grant Park

Gioco was such a great place for my friends and I to have dinner and catch up after a couple years of not seeing each other. We were all in town for a local convention at the McCormick Place, so we needed a place to eat which was close by the Convention Center. We were seated quickly and our server was phenomenal. I only wish I would have gotten his name properly, so I could give him a shout out here on the review!

He was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the menu, and was able to recommend options for us which were vegetarian. They were able to accommodate our requests without any problems (we all had different dietary restrictions...) and they did so without making it seem like it would be a "problem".

The ambiance of the restaurant was great and it was absolutely perfect. Just looking at some of the other diners, at least in our section, we could see that everyone was enjoying their time.

The wait staff team was great and they were all very welcoming.

I WILL DEFINITELY be coming back!

The exposed brick walls makes it feel like an original Chicago dining experience. The service is attentive and knowledgeable. The wine list offers many affordable options. The food was served quickly and was delicious. The favorites from our evening were the lamb chops and ravioli. Be sure to ask for a tour to see the “old time” connection to Chicago’s mob days.

Our table was ready before we arrived, and beautifully set. Our 4 year old toddler was joining us, and they promptly brought a kids-friendly cup for his water. The staff was very friendly, knowledgeable about the wines, menu, and attentive to our table. We ordered salads, main courses (a pasta and fish), as well as dessert. They even brought our son a single scoop of ice-cream (gelato) on the house. It was an amazing dinging experience.

Gioco is one of my favorite places in the South Loop. Being Italian, I appreciate the simple menu and seasonal options. It is not too filling. The olive oil, infused with rosemary and garlic is drinkable! I bring many friends, family and customers here when I am in Chicago.

The wine is great and the menue is small enoigh that they can focus in quality dished but big enough that tou get good selection. This is by far my new favorite place! Neighborhoid gem!

Gioco very rarely disappoints but doesn't "wow" either. We love that it is a neighborhood gem but we would like for the menu to be expanded beyond the current offering. We always have to ask for bread and we suggest that a small salad should be included in light of the entree and pasta prices (especially for pasta dishes). My other beef with Gioco is the tiny olives they use for martinis...you need a magnifying glass to see them (and they offer little taste).

This restaurant is consistently very good. The wait staff are very nice and attentive. I go regularly with my daughter a college student and they recognize us and always greet us warmly.

They refer to it as "from the Berkeley" I have no idea what that means, but it's an assortment of meats and cheeses. It is awesome! Parking is just a few doors down for $10, valet on the weekends.

Probably below average in cost for loop restaurants.

I was at this restaurant about a year ago and thought the lamb chops were the best I had ever eaten......Went there again last Saturday, and they still are the best lamb chops I have ever eaten. Although it is a little pricey, well worth it. Delicious
