Best Japanese food we’ve had in the area. My boyfriend is half Japanese, with high standards for his taste in Japanese food restaurants, and he had a huge grin on his face the entire evening. Can’t wait to go back.
This place is amazing. Highly recommend! It is one of the best sushi restaurants I've even been to, and I've had a lot of sushi in my life...
Best sashimi and sushi in the Bay Area!!
Always have great dinner here with the sushi chef
I'm in the minority here for sure. Food was good but not $100+ good. My wife (Japanese) pointed out that a Japanese restaurant we like in SF is better and much less expensive. Atmosphere was fine but surprisingly loud and lively. This had more of an izakaya feel. It's all fine. It's a nice restaurant. I get it. I think there are better values. For $150 for two there are a ton of great restaurants in the Bay Area (starting with Chapeau!).
Some of the BEST sushi I've had in the Bay Area! My husband and I really enjoyed the rolls, the miso and the salad. The staff was friendly and attentive.
Delicious sushi elegantly presented by artisan chefs, together with impeccable service and thoughtful hosts make this a wonderful experience!
This is the best sushi I have had in the States. Outstanding! Quite impressive. I will bring sushi lovers here and recommend to others. Well done!
wonderful sushi, esp. omasake for very good price! Best Japanese on the peninsula, easily outdoing all the expensive fancy places in burlingame or san mateo. friendly people , definitely a special treat!
Very good sushi but felt overpriced
Seems like many of the nigiri and roll was somehow infused with heavy uni flavor. Some may enjoy that .... I didn’t. I found it overpowering.
Always the best Japanese restaurant. We love this place and Always look forward to dining here. I recommend the uni (best I've ever had), salmon carpacio, live lobster, all the sake and the ice cream selection. Customer service is always on point.
Since we are not sushi and sashimi aficionados, it is not fair to rate overall. What we did have are tempura, very good; agedashi tofu, good; braised mushrooms, fair; thin noodles; good. They did not have pork belly which was our first choice.
Great food, terrible service, not a great value overall.
Getting sushi and sashimi took forever. It took about 1 hour to get two orders of sake (4 pieces). I owned Japanese restaurants before, and to slice 4 pieces and put them on rice (taking an hour) is ridiculous.
We had a fabulous meal at Gintei. The sushi was some of the best we’ve had and The variety was unique and interesting. The service was excellent. Parking was a bit of a challenge, but we were able to find a space in the neighborhood behind the restaurant.
The best sushi with the best service peovided in the best ambiance. I can't say enough about all the amazing experiences had here.
Food was okay - fish slices were thin for some Nigiri dishes (wish they are thicker). Convenient location.
Great quality of sushi ingredients. Japanese restaurants usually do not have decent dessert menu, but Gintei has a nice dessert menu and their quality is very good.
Food was nicely presented, fresh and tasty but I think prices are high given the modest portions. Service is good.
One of the servers was actually a Japanese lady and every little piece of thoughtfulness, such as timing of serving food made us feel as if we were back in Japan. Pretty close to authentic Japanese restaurant ambience, food, and services that I was surprised to find in the little town of San Bruno.
Great service and excellent quality sushi. Would highly recommend and will be back!
Only if you like raw fish. They do not have an extensive cooked food menu so if your guest is not the raw fish type of person, this is not the place for you.
Friendly staff! Fresh fish! Easy to get a reservation!
Very good experience. Great service & food.
Super outstanding. Always a fantastic meal with super service. The team is always able to make something wonderful and the inventory is fresh.
Great as usual. Thanks for the wonderful food and great service
Not worthy of a Michelin Star. Fish was not as fresh as claimed. Maybe it’s flown in from Tokyo but not quite as fresh as that sounds. Rice was decent but not great.
This is my first time there. I am so excited to be there. Food, nigiri sushi, is better than average, but it does not meet the price I paid. Fishes smells a little fishy, it means not fresh. It might be my fault that I ordered regular Omakase sushi plate. It may okay for sushi-diner, but does not qualify for the price. I hope they will improve the freshness of the fish. This is the place where those who never had real fresh fishes.
As a JAPANESE, I do not recommend this restaurant.
Very good but very expensive
We have been coming here for a while now - and really enjoy the fresh food & friendly attitudes.
We wanted to thank Gintei for waving the corkage on the bottle of wine we brought (after buying one from them) -- nice touch from them to show they appreciate their regulars.
This is my new favorite sushi spot. In the past, I've trekked into the City to get high-end Tokyo-style sushi (e.g. flown in from Tsukiji), but I prefer the stylish but low-key ambiance of Gintei. They also have a Sake sommelier and a fantastic Sake list. Call ahead and get a seat at the sushi bar! You won't be disappointed...
Amazing fresh fish!! I wish we were offered the bar for a better sashimi style experience but will note that the next time I make reservations here!! I love this restaurant!
Good but too expensive and we have had equal quality or better for a more reasonable bill.
Pretty expensive for daily dining
Took my foodie sister. We both enjoyed our excellent food and service. Definitely on my must go to list.
In my opinion, probably the best sushi place in the SF Bay area. Excellent fish and good sake selection
Food and service were quite good at this little gem of a restaurant. Amazing sake selection and our server was very knowledgeable about them. Minor complaint - it was a bit cold/drafty at our table which was next to the window but otherwise the ambience is nice/clean/modern if a bit bright. Very welcoming staff.
Overall it’s the best quality sushi I’ve had on the Peninsula. Very fresh, very well prepared and presented. A bit pricey but somehow good sushi generally is. Very comfortable atmosphere.
