Gina La Fornarina - East - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant was dirty and messy, both on tables and on the floor.
The worst service I've ever experienced. When we got there they did not even knew about our reservation, and did not even bother to figure it out, even though I had the confirmation. No one even bother to come over to us when we arrived at the door, I had to go and grab a server. We ended up going to a different restaurant.
The food here is quite good and the restaurant appears to have many fans. Unfortunately, I had to wait 50 minutes and had great trouble getting the server's attention for a second glass of wine. To his credit, he was apologetic when I finally caught his eye and the explained that they were understaffed that night. I look forward to giving them another chance.
This restaurant is awful! The service was really bad. There was a birthday party taking place with about 30 people, and they were yelling and screaming. The manager was really rude. I will NEVER go back to this restaurant!
This is a delightful small restaurant with wonderful food and a full wine list. Everything we ate was way beyond our expectations, homemade and delicious. The portions are grand. We were celebrating my cousin's birthday and ordered the apple tart. I gently mentioned to the server anout the birthday. Out came the desert with a fabulous shooting candle. What a treat. We can't wait to go back.
I was pleased with the food, however the wait staff was sub-par. We sat to eat and look over the menu and then was asked to move tables so that the windows could be opened, meanwhile other tables stayed seated. Then the waitress was borderline rude when we asked for more bread for our cheese platter and continued to give questionable looks when we ordered. I would go back for the food and hopefully better service.
I discovered it on the west side, and now tried the east side. I don't know if it was the different locations, but I ordered the exact same food in each place (steak tartare and watermelon/feta cheese/mint salad) and it was much better on the west side. I did find the east side location more roomy. The drinks were great - cucumber martini super for a summer eve! I tried the vanilla ice cream w/ Amarena Fabbri (Vanilla Gelato topped w/ Sour Cherry Marinated in Sherry) and I highly recommend it!! They even added a sparkler for my birthday, which was beautifully done. The restaurant is accommodating to families with small children as well :-)
I took a large group here as part of a corporate outing. It was one of the few places in the area that was willing to accommodate a large group without making us pay extra to reserve a private room. The waitress decided to wait until we were ready to order before telling us that there was no ravioli or gnocchi that day. I was extremely annoyed by this - we were hungry, and it already takes forever to wait for everyone to be ready, and now several of us had to hurry up and figure out what our second choice was. 10 minutes after we put our order in, the waitress came back to tell one of our party that her order was actually also out. The situation just seemed really disorganized. Once the food actually came, everything was really good. We were all passing our food around, sharing, and so I got to try everything, and everything was good - the pizzas, the fish, the salads, the pasta and the cocktails. I'd definitely go back again, but hopefully I'll get a different waitress next time.
I went here for the first time and it was very good. The service was excellent and the food was very tasty. I had the pasta with squid ink and lobster but if I went back I would definitely order a pizza since that's what they specialize in. Nice, lively atmosphere. Good for kids and families too!
My family and I enjoyed our meal at Gina La Fornarina. The gracious host totally satisfied my grandchildren's quirky food preferences. All of us devoured the freshly prepared Italian cuisine, although I don't understand why the restaurant could not substitute pasta for potatoes (they served the potatoes and charged extra for the spaghettini. Even so it was a good experience
This is a great find by my daughter's new apartment. Good food and great wine. However, seats are close to each other making it a little crowded. Also, we wanted a substitute as we had a party allergic to one of the items that was part of the entree and they wouldn't make a change I found this a little upsetting. However, the food is delicious. I went back again last night with my daughter as it is very close to her apartment and a great place to have dinner together.
We were a group of 9 ranging from age 18 to 83. We came in at 5 for an early dinner and we were seated and served very promptly. Pastas, paninis, pizzas, calzones and salads are all solidly good. A dish sent back due to an unexpected ingredient (not the restaurant's fault if diners don't know that truffels are mushrooms :) ) was re-done without the offending ingredient and with a smile. Biggest complaint is that this place is really noisy. We were sort of half-inside and half out. Second avenue is ridiculously loud with a bus stop right out front, but even inside, this is not a place to expect quiet. There are lots of kids and loud groups of 20-somethings.
I went to Gina's with 3 other people, and none of the entrees were good. We had flank steak with arugula, pappardella with mushrooms, chicken piccata, and zucca ravioli. Nothing was particularly flavorful; the flank steak was tough and bland; the ravioli was way too sweet. I would not go again.
