Gilt Bar Ratings and Reviews
My two friends and I, staying downtown for a girls' night, made a 9:30pm reservation because Gilt has a Gluten-free menu. We arrived at 8:30 for cocktails and the hopes of possibly getting seated earlier. The hostess is an ice queen who I believed used to work at The Betty. Do not be fooled by her charms. We did not get seated until almost 10pm and in all that time that we were there no one mentioned to us that they were undergoing renovations the next day and had a limited menu. They had two protein choices - mussels and Andouille sausage. Since I had mussels for lunch, I ordered the sausage to be told a few minutes later that they were out of that too. I had plain greens and potatoes. Which were ok. But the waitress made no apologies for their lack of menu or the delay in seating us. We were treated horribly and will not return. Nor will we recommend this place to our many friends. Too many delicious places with far better service in the city to waste time here! Don't go!
My partner and I came down for the night from Grand Rapids to have a fancy date night in the city. The ambiance was exactly what I was looking for: dim lighting, beautiful people wearing beautiful clothes, and the packed buzzy atmosphere of a night out. I was skeptical about making a reservation on a Wednesday night, because who goes out on a Wednesday, but I’m glad I did. The place was packed when we got there at 8. The hostess, Keara, was super friendly and accommodating, she created a great experience from the moment we walked in. Our server, Andrew, answered all our questions about night life in Chicago and even wrote a list of places for us to check out. The cherry on top was the photo booth downstairs.
The food was good, but honestly I’d go back for the ambiance before I came back for the food.
Great experience and the food was great. The Steak Tartar with toast was delicious and there was a lot. The restaurant was dark, which made it a good ambiance, not great. It was a little too dark. Our waitress was very friendly and gave us great suggestions.
My girlfriend and I went here for our anniversary. We were ushered to a corner booth, which was perfect. The atmosphere was great, romantically lit. It was a little loud at the beginning of the night, but as we neared 9pm quieted down. Our server was fantastic, and the food was great. Overall a great spot
Gilt bar is consistently delicious, offering creative apps through desserts. Love the burrata and the roasted garlic apps - truly amazing, I could lick the plate. The meatball was also great. Love the bacon side and the creamy corn is amazing! If you like truffle, the pasta is rich and creamy. The burgers are delish - no idea what is so special, but amazing and the chicken is among the best I've ever had. Desserts do not disappoint either - the warm brownie dessert is amazing, and the whipped cream is delectable. Loved Tommy or server. He was fun and perfect in every way!
This was my second time at the restaurant and it was a really great experience. The food is delicious, the staff are incredibly sweet, the atmosphere is really cool. The only draw back is after a certain time it does get a little TOO dark in the restaurant lol, at one point i could barely see my friends it was so dark lol. All in all it was great.
My S/O and I’s first experience in Chicago and we were beyond impressed. For starters this venue was glamorous from the moment we entered the door. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and promptly seated. Once seated we enjoyed a Moscow mule and Lil Sumpin. Waiter was kind and on it but not over bearing. Just how we like it. Food was delicious. I got the salmon Caesar salad and he got the bacon cheeseburger. The French fries are to die for. Thank you Gilt for a wonderful date night and magnificent service.
After hearing rave reviews about Gilt Bar I decided to try it for my birthday. The actual experience was far better than even the best review. I had noted in our reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and from the moment we checked in, was treated like royalty! The women at the host stand were the most warm and welcoming! We were seated downstairs in the library which was beyond words - it was stunning, warm, and cozy. I had the Lion's Tail which was delicious (I've been dreaming about it since). My husband had the orecchiette and I had the truffle pasta. We shared the broccoli & an order of fries. I would eat that broccoli every day if I was able to. I cannot rave enough about the wonderful service & atmosphere, the drinks, and the food. I will come back every / any chance I get.
I enjoyed this restaurant. The food was delicious and our waitress was very nice. The menu is small but the selections are delicious and easy to please many palates. My experience is receiving 4 stars instead of 5 because we made reservations about a week before the date and we still waited about 30 minutes before we were seated. That was very much so unappreciated!
Love the atmosphere.
Service was great and attentive.
Dinner consisted of beet salad, mussels (so good), salmon (a tad over cooked), carrot cake, lemon meringue pie.
Cocktails were dirty martini (perfectly made) and bourbon Manhattan (put a smile on my face).
Staff was very friendly and accommodating to us! We were there for a special event and happened to be late due to traffic. I called ahead, the hostess was very sweet and made adjustments so we had a table when we arrived. The food was delicious and the servers were all very efficient and worked well together. I’m definitly coming back!
From the moment my guests and I walked in we felt welcomed. The hostess we’re friendly, our server was attentive and insightful. The food and drinks we’re spot on, all members of my party we’re satisfied. And lastly the Birthday touch at the end was just right. Thank you for a memorable evening, I look forward to coming back soon!
I brought my fiancé here for his birthday and while we enjoyed elements of Gilt Bar, we were ultimately disappointed. This mostly had to do with the food. For my entree, I first ordered the pork ribs but found out that they were out. Since it was early enough on a Thursday night, this seemed strange. Then I ordered the ribeye steak, hoping it would be a delicious alternative. My fiancé and I split the lobster roll, which was delicious although could have a little more lobster. Then we split the steak and immediately noticed it had several areas of pure and inedible fat. We both had decently sized portions of fat piled on our plates by the time we were finished. I expect there to be some fat on a $15 steak from say a Friday’s or something. Not on a steak that is $39.50 and from a kitchen with master chefs. When we complained (and we hate complaining) to the waiter, he merely shrugged and passed it off that it was marbelized and that was normal. He didn’t even really apologize. I expect a perfectly tender piece of meat for that price, especially when it came with no sides. The waiter paid for our birthday dessert, but I would have appreciated something off the steak. We had a decent time, but these incidents will probably not find us back here again.
Love this place. Super sexy, super rustic, ahead in years of other local chicago spots. Food is bar fare but tastefully done both literally and figuratively. Drinks are perfection. This place made me want to take my clothes off. A great place for a first date if you really want to make a good first impression. It's a place for those "in-the-know". Even their desserts are to die for. You must, you must, you must go to Gilt bar. It will make you feel cooler than you think you are.
