Gigi's Southern Table
Hidden gem in Happy Valley! Great meal during parent’s weekend. Not too far from campus and a great treat for all from interesting decor and fantastic food. Will definitely be back.
Perfect place for brunch. Food, coffee, brunch cocktails..all delicious.
Service was good. But we waited over an hour for our main course. Appetizers were delicious but main course of filet was not. Filet was mediocre and plate was full of water (I can only assume it was from the side of collard greens). Overall, the place was nice but I’m not sure I’d recommend it to a friend.
We’re never disappointed at Gigi’s! It’s a must-hit when we visit our daughter at Penn State. Fresh oysters, lobster claws, calamari... our party of 6 had an outstanding meal with top-notch service. The dessert sampler was a great too. Make sure you make reservations or you might be out of luck!
Great food and atmosphere. The decor was fun, eclectic and upbeat.
Beautiful decor and great brunch menu. Loved the bananas foster French toast. Not far from PSU. Good to have an option without a wait time.
We went for family weekend while visiting our son at State College. Food was dry and they were out of several of the items on the menu and they were out of decaf coffee. Not the experience I was expecting with the review rating it had. Not impressed.
Great food - adorable atmosphere. Friendly service. Deviled eggs are amazing. Loved my old-school Whiskey Sour too. Quantities in main courses were not consistent. My husband ordered the "Fresh Catch" special of the evening (Tile Fish I think) and it was great, but he was given an extremely small portion. I had the Grouper - which was a generous portion - so he ate half of mine to make up for the lack of portion size on his entree. My daughter's Shrimp Carbonara was massive - she took half of it home.
Food was good but nothing special. Porterhouse steak cook medium well asked for medium rare. Didn’t say anything because it had already taken a ridiculous amount of time to get it in the first place. The waitress gave us free dessert without being prompted because she knew it was a long time. I know she doesn’t have any control over the kitchen but she does have control over refilling drinks etc. Ambiance was pleasant but I don’t think I’ll give it a second try.
Great ambience and great food but it seemed like they didn’t have enough wait staff. We got appetizers but nothing to eat them on. We regretted ordering dessert because it took so long to get our order. Will give it one more chance.
We sat next to our reserved table. We reserved a high top for 6 and a high top of 2 so that our part of 8 could sit together. When our party ended up only being 7, we were squished together at a high top for 6, while our reserved 6 top and 2 top sat empty for 3 hours. Annoying!
What a great find. Only 5 minutes from the Penn State campus and a wonderful dining experience. food and service was great. a pleasant stop away from the in town craziness of a football weekend.
Gigi's offers a menu that is refreshingly unique from other restaurants in State College. The food choices are not only interesting but also delicious. Many menu choices reflect the Southern table influence: catfish, shrimp and grits, brisket etc. In addition there is a drink menu with a variety of crafted cocktails and well priced wine and beer selections.
Two members of my party ordered the catch of the day: a generous portion of baked salmon with a waffle crumble crust. It looked amazing. Truly all of our entrees were superb. Our server was attentive and friendly; couldn't ask for more. The atmosphere is elegantly casual with TV viewing from most seats if so desired. The sound is off so the noise level is not affected. It would be impossible to believe anyone would leave this establishment disappointed.
Second visit. Excellent food and service. Will be back again!
We wanted to pick a place after the football game that took reservations. This was a great spot. Service was a little slow but worth the wait. The food was terrific and the southern atmosphere was great.
Everything was great. The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was wonderful and it was topped off with spectacular service.
Although they were very busy (homecoming weekend) our server was timely and courteous. The food was great, as always, and everything was timed well.
Always love Gigi’s!!! Enjoy the menu, tasty food and atmosphere! Service is consistently good also
Great place - food and service AWESOME!! The BEST restaurant in State College by FAR!!
We really enjoyed our experience at Gigis. The menu had a lot of great selections...a good variety so that most everyone should be able to find something they like! One person in our party is GF and the menu was labeled and the server was able to answer questions. Nice atmosphere.
Nice place to visit, only issue was with our sides that were served less than luke warm. We asked for them to be heated, one came back steaming hot and the other was the same but with more in it. It looked as if they just spooned some more on top .
The restaurant is lovely and charming the hostess and waitress were very accommodating and professional. The problems we experience were a very long wait for our food and one of our meals was not at all what we expected it to be. Menu Somewhat limited but interesting
We could not have been more disappointed. The service was terrible. Gnats circled our plates all night. The food was horrible. We expected so much more, especially for the cost.
My daughter celebrated her 21st birthday with her friends at your place. They had a fabulous time with great meals . I wasn’t able to make it but I called ahead and planned the prosecco on the table and a mud pie that was complimentary from the restaurant. Thanks for giving her a wonderful experience
Saturday evening reservations. Ordered three items off the menu and was told with every one that “oh, we are out of that “. Main course, dessert even coffee.
Left early after a very salty and unsatisfying meal.
The service was very slow although the restaurant was not very crowded. We ordered the clam appetizer and half of the clams were closed. In addition the vodka sauce served on the marscapone raviolis was watery.
Out favorite place to dine! Tonight was disappointing. Hostess was rude and impatient, as typical. Service was wonderful but food was SLOW. Food was delicious. Still our favorite place to eat, but a disappointed all the same.
Birthday for my wife
Another absolutely amazing experience at Gigi’s. The food was delicious. Tried the butternut squash tacos. Oh my Yum! We also had the burger pulled pork and held the mahi mahi taco served at our table. All were incredible.
We love Gigi's table and we were early and they took us anyway. The service and food were great!! The only draw back that I can think of was the wine for $10.00 a glass, they could at least fill it up 3/4 of the way. Other then that it was a great experience.
Waiter was not very attentive. Long wait for him to arrive after we were seated. Biscuits were very dry and beignets were not powdered. Some dishes were okay snd cornbread was very good.
This is a good restaurant for Southern style meals. Service was good and there is a large variety of food choices. We were seated in what looked like comfortable living room chairs, but they were way too low. I had to sit on pillows and my hubby who is 6' even did not feel comfortable sitting so far below the table. I had the crab cakes which were cook but overly salty and the corn casserole would have been better had it been a bit creamier as described. My husband loved his seafood noodle bowl and we enjoyed our strawberry shortcake for dessert. We ordered biscuits for the table but never received them. I wish Gigi's would automatically put a biscuit for each person on the table as part of the meal. I love bread so that is just my personal opinion. All in all, we enjoy our visit to Gigi's and would recommend it.
Amazing gumbo and clams.
Awesome food, service, and drinks! I would definitely recommend! State College's best!
Food and atmosphere is always good. Service was not up to par this time but still love Gigi’s!! One of our favorites in state college!
Oysters fabulous! Grouper ok; overall a good night; this place is improving
Gigi's is great for any occasion. We are never disappointed in the food or excellent service.
Early supper at Gigi’s. First visit but won’t be our last. Everything was wonderful. We had the grouper, shrimp and grits and pork chop. All delicious. Chipotle deviled egg appetizer was good as well. Lovely restaurant and wait staff was super friendly.
We were very impressed with our first visit to Gigi’s. Everything was fantastic! Gigi’s offers a true taste of Southern cooking. The ambiance is lovely and the service was outstanding. We plan to make this restaurant a routine stop on our visits to State College.
It was supposed to be an early birthday dinner for someone in our group. I added a special note when I created the reservation but nothing was done. Waitress appeared every now and then. After a four hour drive an only an hour to doll ourselves up, we were just like whatever, it’s late and we just wanted to get back to the
I would not consider this a “southern” restaurant. It smelled like seafood as we entered. Not much on the menu that screamed it was southern cuisine.
