Gigi's Cucina Povera Ratings and Reviews
Good Italian cuisine with live music made for an enjoyable evening. Table was very small for 4 people. Our waiter was extremely friendly & may have been new as he lacked experience & expertise while taking our order. Overall the food & wines were very good & reasonably priced. The music was a good compliment to an enjoyable evening. I am certain that our server will improve with experience & highly recommend Gigi's Cucina Povera.
I was there with friends on a Thursday night, it was not crowded. Waitress was very personable and helpful. We ordered a couple of starters, the chicken liver was very good. Stuffed peppers nice and hot. All four of us had different entrees, pasta, fish, scallops. All the entrees were good, sizeable portions. No room for dessert, but one tiramisu was ordered. Somewhat disappointing because it didn't have much flavor of coffee and was somewhat dry. All in all it was a nice dinner and service was good. I would definitely go back.
First of all, it was local restaurant week. We decided to give another try. We visited the restaurant two years ago and was not impressed. The server was complaining about how busy it was because of restaurant week. My wife's dinner arrived cold, had to send it back . Had to ask for bead with the meal. The server looked surprised that I would like bread. Never asked if I wanted another glass of wine. Desert (which we had to share) was very small. In fact the biscotti that was suppose to accompany the desert was cut in half! Really! Not coming back again. If you want great service , excellent food, but a little pricey..........go across the street to Sinatra's !!!!!!!!!!!!
We have wanted to try Gi-Gi's for sometime. We went during Restaurant Week in October. I had made reservations for 7 pm and within minutes a table was ready for us. The waitress was prompt and very attentive checking on us throughout our dining experience. The food was delicious and served in timely fashion. A nice touch was the delicious bread with two dips that came with our drinks. Our second order of drinks came very slow and I still had 1/2 of my drink left when our desserts and coffee arrived. The table they sat the four of us at was a small card sized table. It was a bit cramped but we made do. Overall it was a pleasant experience and we will return in the future.
We go to Gigi's frequently but made sure to go on Restaurant week because they have the Bolognase on the menu. It is Amazing. Better than other local upscale restaurants where I have had it, including Sinatras and Olivers. Please put it on the regular menu!!! The sea salt Carmel gelato is also amazing. The bartender is great too. Nice wine menu too. Place was packed on a Thursday night. So nice them doing so well!
Gigi's just doesn't get it nor do they care. Have dines there whenever Bobby's playing and prior to BPO concerts. Never again. I'm not alone in remarking that they are DISORGANIZED, CANNOT HANDLE A FULL RESTAURANT, SERVICE IS SLOW AND MEALS TAKE AN HOUR AT BEST. Don't go hungry...don't make a reservation as they pay no attention to it, no sense of customer service, appreciation or repeat business. At least 8-10 people walked out this weekend in disgust. Owner/cook could care less. Good luck with that! Should not be on Open Table and emailing the restaurant privately is a waste of time.
I was disappointed in the service at GiGi's. We had a nice young man at the bar but he was replaced with a rude woman bartender who should not have been behind the bar. Their website said they had happy hour but the bartender said not tonight, we only do that now and again???!!!!
The chef kept coming out to sit at the bar with a friend but never came around to see how the meal was for patrons. Once seated for dinner, we had the young man as our server so the service improved.
The food was good, clams casino, very good, but because of the service experience and lack of interaction by the chef/owner I would not return.
Our experience dining at Gigi's is always fantastic. Rachel and Theresa are awesome servers; so friendly and warm, genuinely nice to our son. It is one of his favorite restaurants in Buffalo. This particular evening we took my Father-in-Law out for dinner and it was the Dine Out for Life event to benefit Evergreen Health. It was encouraging to see the place quite busy. The food was excellent as always. Even though not on the menu, my son requested steamed clams; the servers quickly checked to see if they could be made for him. We shared a dozen clams, of which my son ate 7 alone. The steak and salmon dishes were also excellent, perfectly cooked and seasoned. We always leave Gigi's happy and very full. It is an excellent restaurant with a warm and inviting staff. In short... warm, inviting atmosphere, happy, friendly staff, and a delicious menu with lots of great options.
Never had a bad meal here: food has always been good. Diners should ask for the bread tray: fresh bread with lively made- in-house condiments. Salads are especially fresh & lively. Waitress friendly,.uuhhm..chatty. (My favorite wait staff at this restaurant watches the table, keeps glasses full, dishes arrive & disappear without comment.)
Gigi's was VERY good. My wife and I LOVE Italian food and Gigi's really lived up. The service was very good and the food taste and presentation was great. The amounts were good too. A lot of food which was great for me and for my wife to be able to take home for the next day. The wine list was good and cocktails were creative and tasty. Would (and have) definitely recommend this restaurant to others.
This restaurant has offered consistent Italian/Sicilian food for quite some time. Food is always of good quality, appropriately priced and definitely prepared according to authentic Italian and Sicilian recipes. They have two or three specialty items not available elsewhere. We have down here five or six times in as many years and will certainly return again.
I've eaten here before and honestly this was the first time the meal was unacceptable. The appertizers were ok but the majority of the dinners were poor. The chicken and veal parm we visible burned and should have never been served. We brought friends with us this time based on previous dining experience. I'm not sure we will be back
We have enjoyed this restaurant before. The service seemed especially slow. We were dissatisfied with one of our meals - the eggplant could not be cut with a knife or chewed because part of it was so tough. We asked the server about this and he said he'd check with the cook. Only when we asked later what the cook said, he told us the cook said "it happens." Though I often get eggplant, I have never had one so tough I couldn't cut nor chew it.
Oysters were "southern" perfect. Chicken livers were unique & very flavorful. Ravioli & sauce delicate yet tasty. Plate sizes are perfect. Recommend going with sm. plates to experience more. Excellent server. Donnafugato (sat behind me in 3rd grade) Itl. red wine, a knock out!
Though our server was very kind and attentive, the food was terrible. When our salad arrived, my husband thought it had a "strange" taste to it. His entree was the Penne con vodka; ate very little of it and left the full plate. On the way home he said his stomach felt funny and gassy. For the next six hours, he experienced intestinal distress and was up all night.
UNFORTUNATELY this effected very important plans the next morning.... something he looks forward to all year. He could not attend!
