Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse - Rosemont Ratings and Reviews
Service was slow and weak. Steaks are perhaps a touch above average and extremely overpriced. I have eaten in well over a hundred well respected steakhouses nationwide and have difficulty rating this one at anything more than barely average. They seem very proud of themselves, but the reason for this I cannot fathom. Our service was ineffective and moved at a glacial pace. Drinks arrived late and were incorrect. Overall a disappointing experience at over $100 a person. I would suggest you could spend your money much more wisely elsewhere.
Worst service experience I’ve ever had! They sat us 20 minutes late. The service was so slow, we had to leave before our meal was served because we had tickets to a show. We booked the reservation 2 hr before the show started. This should have been plenty of time. Really disappointed.
The crab and avocado appetizer was excellent. This is the first time I would have to say I was disappointed in the steak at gibsons I ordered the porterhouse which I have ordered many times before, I ordered it medium and it was medium rare, didn't have time to send it back as we were running late to see Seinfeld, I did not find it to be tender at all, very disappointed broccolini was very good , mashed potatoes good.
Went to Gibsons with customers and we were looking for a great dinner and we were not dissapointed. Got a seafood platter for the table which was delicious. After that we all got great steaks with side dishes of their choice. Great wine and drinks to accompany the steaks. We will be back
Our reservation, you definitely need one on the weekends, was for 7pm. We were on time but got seated at 7:20. It was pretty loud in the bar and restaurant. I could hear my table-mates just fine but I struggled to hear the waiters through some of their canned, though fortunately short, presentations. We had the 10 oz New York Strip and 8oz filet mignon and both were exceptional and cooked exactly as requested. The spinach plate and Cesar salad were just okay. My guest raved about the house salad and dressing. Service was shared among staff which ensured there was little wait for anything that was needed. Drinks were served promptly. You're paying a lot so it's best that your guests have a passion for their palette otherwise it's wasted money. Desserts are enormous and need to be shared but they warn you about that when you order them. Would definitely go back, and next time we'll be taking advantage of the complimentary valet but we're from out of town and didn't notice the sign until it was too late.
Outstanding steaks (their bone-in filet is one of the best I've ever had) combined with some of the best service I have experienced anywhere. The Gibsons rosemont team went out of their way to ensure we had a great time and that each person in our group was well taken care of. This is definitely better than the Gibsons in downtown in terms of service and ambiance.
To sum up our experience I will have to say very anti-climactic. Sad because we expected more.
The restaurant floor plan is way too crowded, too many tables and a funnel at the hostess podium that crowds incoming , out going and those trying to get to the restrooms. The tables in the main dining area are squeezed together, the servers and guests can't navigate between them. Two nearby guests were both equally upset when a passerby's coat ran through their mashed potatoes.
The martinis were very tasty and balanced but the short pours left us unsatisfied. Our mains were the filet and the pork chop, both were excellent!! The proteins were both done perfectly with fabulous flavor, portion sizes were ample and no sauces were needed.
Unfortunately our sides didn't live up to the main entrees. The house salad was dressed with a mixture heavy in vinegar and lacking any other flavor. The double baked potato had a nice texture to the mouth but had a flat flavor (how can you take potato flavor out of a potato I'll never know), the cheese amply heaped on top tasted like a sliced manufactured cheese like product. We'd like to leave it at that but we have to mention the coleslaw which had no flavor whatsoever, a better coleslaw is served in a cardboard cup next to the hotdog from most street vendors.
One must say, if it wasn't for the quality wait staff who were very attentive, professional and knowledgeable, it would be hard pressed to see what the allure of Gibsons is.
All in all, for the experience and price...... we won't be back.
A classic Chicago steakhouse. Great service and selection. Good bar area to start the night off. Wait staff were friendly and helpful. Seating was prompt and staff recognized my need to have an out of the way table for business discussions. The fact that the carrot cake came in a 14 inch high slice should have been advertised ahead, but made for a good laugh albeit much was wasted in the end. Overall a good time and eating experience.
