Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse - Oak Brook Ratings and Reviews
Always enjoy coming here and brought three friends to test it out. They ordered the filet medallions but requested twice baked potatoes in lieu of the mashed potatoes. What they got was two vegetables and the twice baked potatoes as a side. The waiter had mentioned there would be a upcharge for the potatoes but my friends were shocked to get charged $10.75 extra
for the substitution. I think there was a misunderstanding somewhere. Shouldn't they have received one vegetable and the twice baked potato at a lesser upcharge?
Conner our server was fantastic. Very attentive
Food was great. The only issue we ever have there is they pack the tables so close you cant move. The table behind us kept bumping into us the servers couldn’t get through the tables. Once I sat down I didn’t even think about getting up.
I had heard a lot of good things about Gibson’s. My wife and I decided to make reservations to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We were disappointed with the Ribeye steak. The steak was burned on the outside and was not as flavorful. I shouldn’t have to add seasoned salt that was on the table to make the steak more flavorful.
My wife and I have been to several other steak restaurants like a Ruth Chris, Morton’s etc..I still have yet to taste a steak comparable to Ruth Chris.
The service is top notch, but the food overall was disappointing. I would not recommend this place. I look forward to restaurants like this, Gibson’s is overrated by far.
Great food and service! Never disappointed when dining here! Server was very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. I advised beforehand it was a Birthday dinner and they sang and brought out a delicious ice cream dessert for two. Will always go back for dinner and/or special occasions. Great place for lunch or dinner!! Food is outstanding!!
Celebrated our birthdays with a friend over lunch at Gibson's. I usually go there in the evening with my spouse, but lunch was just as great! The service was top knotch. Daniel was our server and he was attentive and very knowledgeable. We both enjoyed a WR Ribeye (took home half as leftovers), loved the kale/avocado salad, and we enjoyed mushrooms and asparagus for sides. The server noticed we exchanged gifts and brought us a delicious complimentary hot fudge ice cream sundae with 2 candles! The hot fudge is EXCEPTIONAL. We had a great visit, great lunch, and a spectacular meal!
After numerous good experiences at Gibson's Chicago location, I was disappointed by my visit to the Oak Brook location. I have never frequented a restaurant in this price range ($400 with tip for two people) that considers it acceptable to jam tables so close together that you repeatedly strike arms with the person behind you. I adjusted my seat several times to no avail and in spite of great food and great service this cramped set-up overwhelmed my experience. Unless you insist on a booth, this is not a good location to frequent. This is also the first Open Table reservation I made where it clearly made no difference to my seating location.
Food was great. Our server was great. The night was perfect until we asked to have our leftovers wrapped up. We each had about 10oz of steak left along with the biggest sweet potato I have ever seen in my life. Our food was taken to be wrapped up I received the check and left a 30% tip because of how great everything was. We finished our drinks and noticed that after about 15 minutes our food never made it back to the table. I asked 1...then 2 other bus boys/servers for our leftovers until our server came up and apologized immediately that our food was thrown out. They offered to fire up the same meal again or give us a gift card, but at this time it was 1030pm and I didn't want to wait another half an hour. So I asked for a gift card. They came back with a card that was 1/3 of our purchase total without tip. I called there bluff and asked for half which I received because we had more than half our food left until they fed Oscar the grouch. I am thankful that it was the end of the night because I would be more upset if I had to do that with other people around. I will go back and see how the second time goes. Besides the 'mistake' I was very pleased with the evening.
I was surprised to find it was ala carte, without any emphasis in the menu on sides one might want to consider. The NY cut was okay, but with unnecessary gristle. For the price, not special enough. Might drop by for breakfast or lunch, where prices quite reasonable, but not my first choice for steak.
There is nothing special about Gibson’s. The steaks are average and the sides are nothing special either. I have visited 3 times and each experience was the same. I won’t be returning as I feel they are overpriced and other steak restaurants give a better experience with much better food for the price.
I had reservations for 5 on a Saturday for an early dinner (4:30 PM) with my wife and kids in celebration of one of my children's 20th birthday. We do not normally frequent high end steakhouses because of the high prices, but this was a special celebration. We got to our table and were surprised how tightly packed the tables were next to each other. I would have thought such a high scale restaurant would space the tables out a bit more. My wife was bumped by a person in a chair at an adjacent table 4-5 times during our meal. I asked for my steak to be cooked pink throughout, and it was overdone. My overall satisfaction was very low.
