Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse is a Rush Street legend that has just added a location in Oak Brook. Big steaks, big drinks and big shots, that's what it's all about at Gibsons!
Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse Oak Brook boasts a large outdoor patio which has the capacity to seat 200 and includes a lounge area with three toasty fire pits, an Alpine Waterfall feature off the outdoor dining area and a full outdoor bar. Come in and enjoy dining on our patio or just sit around the fire pit with friends to sip some cocktails. Outdoor seating will be accommodated on a first come first serve basis.

Steak and sides were great. Service was good.

We ordered a filet and lobster tail to share with sides. Plenty of food for two people. Asked the price of the lobster tail - waiter didn’t know. I figured it would be in the ballpark of the steak maybe a bit more....so I told their waiter to just go ahead and it started. It was $118 for ONE lobster tail - and it wasn’t any better than we make at home!

Go there for the steaks - if it says market price - make sure you get a confirmed market price before you order or just avoid it altogether.

When we walked in for our reservation we were greeted cheerfully and felt very welcome. Once seated, we had to wait for at least 5 minutes to be acknowledged by our waiter. Our drinks then took another 10 minutes to arrive and it was clear that our waiter forgot about us. The service continued in that fashion, slow and inattentive. We ordered oysters which were delicious. The ribeye was great but the pork chop was over done and lacking flavor. We also had good but not great lobster bisque, mediocre brussel sprouts, and well prepared sautéed spinach.

Gibson’s has been our restaurant from the beginning of our relationship. We went on our first there six years ago. Last night, we celebrated his birthday and it was awesome. He also proposed to me last night.

The reason for a lower rating on the food was I ordered a hamburger with a plain bun cooked medium but recd a medium well burger on a bun that was falling apart. I sent the burger back & rcvd it cooked medium however, it appeared to be the same bun & the fries were not hot. Lee ordered the Waldorf Salad and was disappointed w/the lack of fruit .. and was mostly lettuce .. the apple was only slivers of an apple. The server, Anthony, was excellent very polite & professional.

Every year for the last few years, I have taken my son to Gibson's for his birthday. This year was no exception. However, the service was less than desirable. The reservation indicated it was a birthday celebration, this was not acknowledged by the host nor the server.

Additionally, we ordered a salad to share and when our entrees came I commented that we never got our salad and the server then said she would bring it, and take it off the bill. She did, however, it did not help with the pacing of the meal.

Then the server brought the dessert menu from her pocket and with it, she threw a pen from her pocket that hit me. Very unusual occurrence I am sure, however, it did not add to our overall less than stellar experience.

Overall, not the best experience I have had and no manager ever came over to ask how the meal or dining experience was, which is typical of our past experiences at Gibson's. I think the next special occasion we will spend at Capital Grille.

My wife and I made a Saturday lunch reservation indicating that it was a special occasion. To make it more special, the hostess took us straight to a table in an extension area next to a service entrance and a cashiers’ station. Did not even bother to ask if we had preferences or how we liked that spot. More than two thirds of the tables were available. We asked to be moved to a decent table... which was apparently not that difficult. The server was very nice and friendly but lacked basic training on menu presentation and tending to the customers. The most ridiculous part was when she stopped in the middle of opening our bottle of wine to turn her back on us and start serving meals on a neighboring table. When done, she just came back and continued opening the bottle without even an apology. I do not know why we were not worthy of her full attention for 5 minutes.
About the food… The lobster bisque soup was good. The steaks were prepared as ordered but did not live up to the hype on Gibson’s website. At best, they were average for this restaurant category. The sides fared worse, especially the creamed spinach which was so watery that it could easily pass as soup. The most puzzling item was the carrot cake. We were surprised by the high price, but it turns out it is a chunk big enough to feed a family for a week. If I want to buy that much cake to take home I will go to a bakery. In a restaurant one expects properly sized portions (priced accordingly) to complete the meal.
They messed up even the payment, so we finally had to ask for the manager. Her intervention was just as disappointing.
I see that some people had different experience. At this price point, good service should be a absolute requirement, not a lottery. I expect more from a restaurant where a lunch for a couple can easily exceed two hundred dollars. I doubt I will risk ruining another event at Gibson’s. Chicago and the suburbs offer too many better places to choose from.

From our appetizers to dessert (which was huge!), everything was correct and steak temperatures were spot on. Even the staff keeping up with each courses plates and utensils to refilling waters, they were awesome!

Our waiter Joe was very attentive. Gibson’s always makes sure that they satisfy their customers. I know that steaks are expensive and they only have the best but I think it will be better if most of their entrees come with a side already. Not also a big fan of their tiny bottle of coke.

Waiters and staff make you feel welcome, even those who don't specifically wait on your table. Attention to detail is important and they do an excellent job of seeing to that.
