We came for New Year's Eve, it was a 3 course fixed price menu with several choices for each course. I had crispy cod for an appetiser, scallops (a generous serving!), and a yummy chocolate mousse cake for dessert. Had a lovely bottle of reasonably priced wine and the service was excellent- warm, not rushed at all, wonderful! I would totally recommend this place!
I was really pleasantly surprised by our meal here. The food was very good and thoughtfully prepared, the atmosphere was warm and friendly, bustling and lively but not too loud or busy, and the service was great. The prices were also very reasonable given the quality and quantity of the food. This is a great neighborhood restaurant to which I plan to return!
The service was very good, but the food was nothing special (perhaps, to be expected for "normal" prices). I went here for my wife's birthday because Open Table characterized it as "romantic." Neither my wife nor I would agree. The tables in this smallish restaurant are very close together (we chatted with the people on both sides) and the noise level was quite "energetic" (in Open Table parlance). Good spot to go with friends or a casual date.
My brother in-law suggested Giano, so went to Giano to see friends and catch up. Giano just wha t we were looking for--cozy, quiet with great food and wine. We ordered from the special menu--asparagus wrapped in prosciutto topped with cheese and burrata with Bresaola both outstanding. The risotto with a spinach pesto and cheese really was out of this world. Great wine at reasonable prices. go.
Had the most wonderful date night dinner here! My boyfriend ordered the lasagna and I ordered the special which was Pesto Risotto and both were exception and delicious. Great portions for sharing or if you have a big appetite. The appetizers also looked delicious such as the Burratta and Porchini. Our waitress was also the sweetest. She spoke in Italian so I was able to brush up on the language throughout the meal. They gave the feel of family and comfort the minute you walked in as most who were there were regulars!
Would recommend this and would come back time and time again.
Excellent food, incredible service. Great value for a place in Manhattan, too. Portion sizes were great. Pastas not too heavy or buttery. Really just all around great Italian food. Will certainly come back in the near future. One of the best pasta dishes I've ever gotten!
The food was fantastic and the space was intimate but not claustrophobic, like so many New York restaurants are. The noise level was surprisingly low (also hard to find in Manhattan!), and the service was excellent. The burrata and proscuitto specials were the biggest hits. Trying a new restaurant can be a gamble, but this was a great choice. We'll definitely be returning!
Went here for my boyfriend's birthday back in May and again with my friend visiting from out of town. Both times were absolutely amazing! The food is all homemade and truly the best Italian I've had in the city, which says a lot since I'm both Italian and a huge foodie.
Atmosphere is perfect, it's bustling and makes you appreciate the East Village scene, but can also play to the romantic scene as well.
Prices are beyond affordable for the quality and service. HIGHLY recommend this spot. It's one of my favorites.
The food is absolutely outstanding!! We had the appetizer with the fresh burrata cheese, cured meat, and arugula - delicious! Our entrees were the spinach ravioli and spaghetti with pancetta - even more delicious! The tiramisu was very tasty but their cheesecake with the amaretto was by far one of the best desserts I've ever had. Between the quaint ambiance, excellent service, amazing food at such reasonable prices - it's a must to dine here.
Gianoi's is a very pleasant restaurant, a thoroughly enjoyable place to dine with a friend. The food is good to very good, depending on what you order. My friend's salad was outstanding (I had a taste) and her pasta very fine. I ordered the chicken Milanese. It was perfectly OK, a little dry, and tasted better the next day when I put the leftovers in a homemade salad. It comes with a great fluff of greens, nice, as it makes it unnecessary to order an a la carte side salad. We skipped dessert. The service was very amiable and rather witty, once we got into a short conversation with the waiter (probably also the owner). The interior surprised me, as it was conspicuously more elegant than most East Village moderately-priced places. I will certainly keep this restaurant on our list, as all in all, the dinner experience was entirely what we wanted.
