This is the story of Paolo and Matteo, two guys from Milano who had an idea. Let's take the heart of our tradition and fuse it with the exciting innovations happening in Italian cooking, they said. Inspired by the Roman deity Janus who looked to the future as well as the past, Giano respects tradition and embraces the future. We like to think of our little corner in the east village as quite special, and hope you will too
The classic Italian dessert
Tagliatelle alla Bolognese
Homemade tagliatelle, grass fed beef ragout, light tomato sauce, parmigiano cheese
Rigatoni all' Amatriciana
Homemade rigatoni, tomato sauce, pancetta, onions, red pepper flakes, parmigiano cheese
We love Giano. We had been several times but this was our first time back since the Pandemic and I’m really sad that we stayed away for so long. All the good things that we remembered about Giano are still going strong: the food was delicious, ambiance welcoming and not at all stuffy and the service incredibly warm. It’s not easy to have such a consistently high level of quality after so many years but Paolo & Matteo have found the magic formula!
We loaded up on appetizers (meatballs, calamari, burrata & scallops wrapped in prosciutto) and everything was delicious! For an entree, I had the tagliatelle in lamb ragu (special) and it was amazing. We also tried all of the desserts (torta della Nonna, tiramisu & chocolate lava cake) and they were equally delicious.
We’re already making plans to come back!
As always food and service here is excellent
Amazing food, outstanding service, would highly recommend 10/10
We celebrated our anniversary here and Paolo made sure to make it special. From wine to apps to dessert, everything was so good! It was our choice to sit outside in garden because that is where we celebrated our wedding 25 years prior and it was humid, but the interior is lovely.
Great experience! I didn't realize my reservation was only a half hour before the kitchen closed but we weren't rushed at all. Our waiter was great, very entertaining and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. Can't wait to come back!
Got the special ravioli and it was to die for!
Sublime perfection. Paolo is an outstanding and warm host presenting creatively authentic and delicious Italian dishes, The staff and service was excellent - thoughtful and attentive without being intrusive. East Village’s hidden gem - and our choice to celebrate family occasions.
We love Paolo, so entertaining and beautiful. He made our experience so much richer. Does not hurt that the food is excellent and the ambience perfect for a fun evening out! David
Bad service. Pasta over cooked and nothing special.
The food and service were both fantastic.
We LOVED our experience here!! Not only was the pasta amazing but the staff is incredible. Would highly recommend!
Best. Meal. Ever. And we have been to a lot of places! Amazing!
Loved this restaurant. Everyone was so nice and food was terrific
We love you Pablo!!! See you next time!
The food was delicious…especially the pasta. Scrumptious! Our server was the best! Can’t wait to return for another amazing dinner!
Food and service were impeccable! 100% recommend
Food and service were both very good
Great staff, even better food! Cacio pepe was phenomenal and so was the burrata! Would definitely come back here.
Food was tremendous, but somehow the service was even better.
Every pasta dish we had was incredible.
Paolo was an magnificent host for our table! Truly made the experience incredible! Food and drinks were Fabulous as well! Definitely coming back for more good vibes and good eats.
Everything we ate was absolutely amazing, had a great wine recommendation, and service was fantastic.
Such a good experience, my friends even commented about how great of a find it was. Our server was so friendly and was so knowledgeable about every aspect of food, wine, etc.. it was a great evening!
Great vibe! Loved the service. Would definitely return in the future.
Homemade pasta!? Are you kidding me? Giano's never fails to impress me and I can taste the freshness in each dish I order. Always love going here to get an authentic Italian meal on the east side and will for sure be venturing back to say hi to all of the smiling staff members as well. 10/10
Best pasta I’ve ever had in NYC! They make it fresh right there everyday. All the staff members where very kind and attentive. A must go!
Always a favorite place to go!
The food was literally so good and not ridiculously expensive. I got the tagliatelle Bolognese and my friend got the rigatoni with pancetta and we both loved our meals
Excellent service and authentic delicious Italian food. Will definitely be back!
Our daughter goes to college in New York City and we vowed that during the four or five years we would be coming to New York, we would never repeat ourselves because there are so many fantastic restaurants in Manhattan. That idea changed when we came to Giano. We ate there in March, and we had a magnificent meal. And we returned again this past weekend and it was even better than the first time. Everything is so fresh, the people are wonderful, and the service is truly exceptional. I can without a doubt say this is the best Italian food I have eaten in my entire life. My wife has traveled to Italy multiple times over the years and she still thought this was the best Italian food she has enjoyed.
The burrata and prosciutto special was amazing, and the three of us ordered the amatriciana, the sausage broccoli rabe and red pepper flakes, and the spaghetti al tortuffo. It was amazing, it compares to similar cuisine in the North End of Boston. Great service, great venue, and worth every cent. The staff are Italian and really know how to serve great food.
Best pasta in NYC, the backyard is beautiful and the service is full of passion.
Excellent Italian restaurant best lasagna I’ve ever had. The owner comes to greet you at the table and explains the menu
One of my favorite restaurants. Each time it only gets better and better. Pasta is unbelievable, eggplant parm is unbelievable, tiramisu is ... unbelievable. Highly recommend if you’re ever in the east village.
Giano never fails as one of my favorite restaurants in the city! Whether for a date or wanting to show a friend visiting NYC some amazing Italian food, Giano is the best. Lovely servers and ambiance, pasta is to die for.
Fantastic fresh made pastas from Italians who know how to make it. Our experience here for the first time was really great, and I’ll be back for sure!
We sat in the nice and quiet outdoor dining area in the back, enjoying great food and service.
Good food, simple, and great service. Awesome all around and good value. Not too pricy for a nice date night out
Delicious food outdoors in the tent on a stormy nite. The rigatoni and fava beans special was memorable. The welcome was sincere and the service very good.
