Giano has been a favorite since it opened. Great food, friendly, attentive, efficient service and a tremendous COMFORT level -- an arduous feat during this pandemic, but they manage it with grace and good humor. The pastas are all homemade and the salmon
which they have, and filet (which they don't have at the moment), are cooked exactly to your specifications. Excellent wine list, lovely desserts. Don't know anywhere else such good food at such reasonable prices can be had in the city.
Giano is one of the most authentic italian restaurant in nyc. Food is delicious, the ambience is cozy and intimate and the entire staff is so sweet, welcoming and attentive.. A true gem!
The food was excellent, and the service was equally excellent! The garden dining area was the perfect setup for a night out and look forward to coming back!
Awesome food, great service and excellent Covid efforts (good spacing, masks, sanitizer, whole thing)
Amazing experience through and through - still salivating over the food and will definitely be going back soon. Also, I loved the set up for the outdoor dining.
Great place, excellent food and top service. Check it out
Favorite Italian restaurant in nyc!
Delicious food. Amazing service, even given COVID restrictions. And even more than that, we needed to use the restroom later in the night and when we came back to ask if it was possible, they were more than willing to let us back in and accommodate. Will certainly be back.
We sat in the garden as only outdoor seating is possible right now. The staff is lovely. The food is excellent, including the Caprese salad, the pastas, and especially the meatballs.
It was an amazing experience! The service was spectacular, so kind and polite. The food was even better; appetizers and main were timed perfectly and so hot and the flavors were delicious! The garden in the back was super charming and cute with lights and ivy/plants ( : my new favorite in nyc 🧡💜
Amazing food and service! Cannot wait to go back .
Great food and service
What a great find. the food and service were outstanding!!
My first time there. Very pleasant and very nice manager?/ owner? Everything was excellent. It's not that the place was noisy in terms of too many or unruly people but something in the acoustics of the room made sounds echo and seem loud. Not cheap but not overpriced or hyper expensive either.... I would go there again when some event (that night was theater at Mabou Mines) takes me to that neighborhood.
Fantastic experience overall, the fresh pasta was incredible and the staff was very inviting.
A wonderful place! We will definitely be going back!
Anniversary dinner ! 5th year celebrating our anniversary at Giano. We absolutely love everything and the owners make the whole experience!
The food was truly delicious. The appetizers were spectacular, especially the wrapped asparagus. Our entrees were full of flavor and the pasta cooked to perfection. From the moment Roberta greeted us till we enjoyed a variety of delectable desserts, the flavor of Giano was certainly a gourmet Italian evening to remember.
I don’t know how to rate this restaurant more than 5 stars. Tiramisu was the best in the world.
Amazing dinner, waitress was attentive and charismatic. Cannot wait to come back, tiramisu was the best I have ever had!!!
The woman who works there is so nice and fun. The food and wine were very good. Everything came out so quickly too.
Giano is my favorite restaurant in the east village. It's a cute place that's perfect for a date or a group dinner. The ambiance and food are both incredible. They also have plenty of gluten free options!
Paolo was the most amazing server. Food was phenomenal. Great prices. They even threw in a free tiramisu for our group. Will definitely be returning
The food is really, really great and the staff are really, really nice. As a vegetarian often dishes are a bit more boring than the meat dishes in Italian restaurants, but they totally modify any dish to work and everything is delicious. Highly recommended!
Stellar food at reasonable prices with amazing service!
Will be a regular!
Very good Italian restaurant in New York City.
The food was outstanding and the owners (who are Italian) super friendly.
I would really recommend this place to anyone who really wants to eat real Italian food.
Quality of food exceeded my expectations. Ambiance and service was wonderful. Only issue I had was the lighting was too dim and couldn't see the menu at the table we were seated at.
Best italian food in NY!! and so reasonably priced too. Also has excellent wine choices. We're in love with this place!
Hidden gem in the city. We received excellent service! And the food..OMG! I could’ve eaten there every day of our trip. Everyone In our group agreed this was the best and most authentic Italian they’ve ever had!!
Our go to spot in the East Village. Very consistent and authentic italian. The atmosphere also makes it great for a date night. Will continue to come back over and over!
Fine time for Valentine’s Day!
Absolutely outstanding !! The wine, the pasta ,the atmosphere and service. Can’t wait to go back !!!
Paulo, one of the owners makes a meal at Giano a great experience. He is great! The food is consistently excellent. The wine list is pretty good. During warm weather, there is a small outdoor courtyard with tables in the back. The whole experience makes for a very enjoyable evening. Thank you Paulo!
Very good! Just not great.
Great food, and great service. The owner cares about his food.
Good wine selection also
I wanted to like this place. The service was great and the restaurant is very nice inside but the food was terrible. My tagliatelle tasted like something that came out of a packet. My boyfriend's salmon was dry and overcooked and our friend's lasagna was the driest lasagna I've ever seen. I was extremely disappointed in the quality of the food considering the price we paid and the reviews I read prior.
I just love this place. It is quaint and embodies a cozy feel. The service as one would expect from Italians is warm and sincere. Giano is owned and operated by a husband and wife team, both of whom are gracious and attentive without being too intrusive. I chose to dine here a couple of days ago to celebrate my birthday with a close friend. It was a memorable experience as we both took our time without being rushed.
We have patronized this spot numerous times for years and continue to return for it is a unique neighborhood destination which hits every point. I ordered the fried calamari with a side of marinara sauce as my app (make sure to squeeze fresh lemon on top) in addition to the rigatoni with pancetta in tomato sauce. The latter was so delicious that I wanted another serving. It was that good. This pasta dish melts in your mouth. Of course our meal wasn't complete without copious amounts of Sauvignon Blanc. Their wine selection is comprehensive, yet simple. Very easy to locate a bottle that will satisfy your palette.
Last, but not least, desert was served with a vibrant, sparkling candle on top of a chocolate lava cake along with creme brûlée. I can never say no to anything sweet really and both certainly delivered in terms of texture, taste and presentation. Our waiter was professional and kind. We never wanted for anything. The water was refilled. The table was cleared in between courses. As someone who served tables at many restaurants throughout Manhattan for over a decade, I have a different set of lens knowing what is happening around me. I can unequivocally say this place is the real deal.
Honestly, do yourself a favor, check them out, make a reservation, and enjoy a scrumptious dinner. Also, they have a gorgeous garden which opens during the warmer months. :)
