This is the story of Paolo and Matteo, two guys from Milano who had an idea. Let's take the the heart of our tradition and fuse it with the exciting innovations happening in Italian cooking, they said. Inspired by the Roman deity Janus who looked to the future as well as the past, Giano respects tradition and embraces the future. Enter Simone Bonelli. After 4 years at a Michelin starred restaurant in Italy, he came to NY to where it took him about 6 months to earn 2 stars from Frank Bruni at a publication you may have heard of, The New York Times. As executive chef and co-owner, Chef Bonelli blends cutting edge technique & gorgeous flavors with outstanding presentation- and for those of you who think you've seen it all, trust us, you haven't. We like to think of our little corner in the east village as quite special, and hope you will too

Giano Ratings and Reviews
Had the most wonderful date night dinner here! My boyfriend ordered the lasagna and I ordered the special which was Pesto Risotto and both were exception and delicious. Great portions for sharing or if you have a big appetite. The appetizers also looked delicious such as the Burratta and Porchini. Our waitress was also the sweetest. She spoke in Italian so I was able to brush up on the language throughout the meal. They gave the feel of family and comfort the minute you walked in as most who were there were regulars!
Would recommend this and would come back time and time again.
Excellent food, incredible service. Great value for a place in Manhattan, too. Portion sizes were great. Pastas not too heavy or buttery. Really just all around great Italian food. Will certainly come back in the near future. One of the best pasta dishes I've ever gotten!
Went here for my boyfriend's birthday back in May and again with my friend visiting from out of town. Both times were absolutely amazing! The food is all homemade and truly the best Italian I've had in the city, which says a lot since I'm both Italian and a huge foodie.
Atmosphere is perfect, it's bustling and makes you appreciate the East Village scene, but can also play to the romantic scene as well.
Prices are beyond affordable for the quality and service. HIGHLY recommend this spot. It's one of my favorites.
The food is absolutely outstanding!! We had the appetizer with the fresh burrata cheese, cured meat, and arugula - delicious! Our entrees were the spinach ravioli and spaghetti with pancetta - even more delicious! The tiramisu was very tasty but their cheesecake with the amaretto was by far one of the best desserts I've ever had. Between the quaint ambiance, excellent service, amazing food at such reasonable prices - it's a must to dine here.
Gianoi's is a very pleasant restaurant, a thoroughly enjoyable place to dine with a friend. The food is good to very good, depending on what you order. My friend's salad was outstanding (I had a taste) and her pasta very fine. I ordered the chicken Milanese. It was perfectly OK, a little dry, and tasted better the next day when I put the leftovers in a homemade salad. It comes with a great fluff of greens, nice, as it makes it unnecessary to order an a la carte side salad. We skipped dessert. The service was very amiable and rather witty, once we got into a short conversation with the waiter (probably also the owner). The interior surprised me, as it was conspicuously more elegant than most East Village moderately-priced places. I will certainly keep this restaurant on our list, as all in all, the dinner experience was entirely what we wanted.
DELICIOUS FOOD. Amazing specials - the Burrata was the freshest I’ve had in a long while and the rigatoni Ragu with truffle sauce was amazing. There is a server walking around who just explains the menu - he’s great! Adds personality. They say their tiramisu is one of the best... IT IS.
Everything about Giano was outstanding! The service was great and our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The interior is beautiful, but we were lucky enough to get a table outside in the back patio which was very pretty. The food was amazing! We tried the special of the prosciutto wrapped asparagus grilled with cheese - it was unbelievable! Then for main I had tagliatelle bolognese and my boyfriend had a lamb ragu dish. The pasta was homemade and you could definitely taste the difference. I was savoring every mouthful! 100% will come back!
Authentic low key Italian in the heart of hipsterville LES. Luuuv the staple pastas on their menu (Lamb Ragu is dreamy), and their specials are just as delicious. Service is warm and fantastic. We have been back here multiple times, whenever we crave Italian. It's worth the trip!
My boyfriend and I decided to go to dinner last minute for some good Italian food - BEST ITALIAN WE'VE EVER HAD. The staff was super friendly, food was unreal, and the whole experience was just down to earth and authentic. I've already recommend to friends and family, and we'll definitely be coming back
Giano's is a nice restaurant, reasonably priced, in the East Village. Friendly service and cute ambiance. Food was quite good although everything is a la carte and the wine was very nice. Only complaint is that the seating was not comfortable. I was on a bench with my back to the brick wall. The bench was rather narrow and hard which made me eager to leave as opposed to linger over coffee and dessert. If I were to go again I would request a table with 2 chairs.
