Gianni's Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
LOVED the food and the jazz background music! Tessa was a great server and welcomed us, making us feel right at home. Re: the food, I told her: the Spun Salad was great (we’d go just for that!), the walleye was piping hot and generously portioned, but the asparagus and mashed potatoes were not hot-this would’ve matched the delicious walleye much better.
We have lived in the area for 15+ years and for some reason never made it to dinner here. We just tried it out Sunday night for Restaurant Week. The steak was great, atmosphere is typical steak house, and the service was fine. I read some reviews about people having issues with long waits during restaurant week, but we got seated right away. Limited options for the Restaurant Week (the restaurant salad, filet or walleye, asparagus and mashed potatoes, and chocolate layer cake or salted caramel budini. We all had the steak and thought it was spectacular. The desserts were pretty tasty too. Also, they do corkage for $25. They have a large and pricey wine list, so bringing your own quality bottle is a nice option.
Server was rude along with over charging for options once the bill arrived. Spoke to server about the charges and he said that’s the way it is. I asked if there would be an up charge for the items before I ordered, I was told no. Once the bill arrived all the charges appeared and he battled me. I’ve never been spoken to so rude at a restaurant. I should have spoken to a manager but I was so embarrassed by the way he spoke to us we just wanted to leave.
My wife and I had been wanting to check-out Gianni's Steakhouse. We went with our 15 month old son, and we had a wonderful time. The service was fantastic, and the food (filet mignon, Chilean sea-bass) was awesome. The staff and the room accommodated all of us perfectly. We even chit-chatted a bit with other people at the tables in our area. We can't wait to go back again!
Love, love, love this restaurant! It has always been one of our favorites for either special occasions or date night out! The food is wonderful; the steaks, table side spun salad, sea bass all were great on this last visit. Our waiter Larry is one of the best & we will request him when we can.
This was our first time to Gianni's and we were very pleased. We both had the 9 oz filet and it was cooked perfectly. The spun salad was great too. The server indicated it isn't typically shared, but it's more than enough for 2 people, so go ahead and share it. Parking was convenient in the ramp in the back. Romantic setting.
My family and I have dined many times at this restaurant. Service is always outstanding. This particular visit, the entrees where their usual outstanding quality (two fillets and salmon) and table side spun salad was exceptionally well done. However, the vegetable of the day, roasted Brussels sprouts, were terrible. They were so overcooked (black crust with no taste) as to be inedible. Our son, who happens to be a Certified Executive Chef by ACF, dined with us. His comments were, "who ever cooked these didn't know what he was doing)! He also noted that he was very surprised that the "special french fries" weren't special at all. They were not hand cut nor seasoned to be special. They came straight out of a bag and were under cooked and not seasoned. Always in the past we have been served such generous portions that we took the extra home. Again this time the wait staff offered to box the extra. When we go home, the garlic and Bearnaise sauce were not included. Although we very much enjoyed the food and the service, disappointed! We will however return and avoid Brussels sprouts and "french fries".
I had sought a recommendation from someone more familiar with the Wayzata area for a quiet but very good restaurant for a business dinner for four. He recommended Gianni's.
We were seated promptly when we arrived and our server brought menus. He seemed very interested until he learned we weren't having any alcoholic beverages.
A variety of entrees and accompaniments were ordered and served. I had a filet Mignon which was very good and cooked to order. However the consensus regarding the meal, (with the exception of my steak) especially the side orders is that the food lacked flavor. A side of broccoli was absolutely tasteless. The baked potatoes were overcooked.
A busboy kept the water glasses full but visits from the waiter were rare.
Overall, very uninspiring.
We don't visit Gianni's very often as we don't live in the Twin Cities but it's always a pleasant experience when we do. We never have better steaks then those we have at Gianni's! The staff is always friendly, professional and efficient. The menu is not expansive but I can't imagine any diners not being able to find great food to their liking. It's traditional dining at it's best....excellent food, prepared by talented chefs, served by a friendly staff in an upscale setting. What's not to enjoy?
Gianni's is a long-time family favorite for us! First the server - Larry. He is fun, efficient, and knows how to make the meal special. He offers great wine recommendations too. Next, the red meat - amazing and cooked perfectly. The "spun salad" is unique and delicious. Cocktails are excellent and served promptly, despite a busy bar.
Only downside (in winter) is that there is nowhere to wait if your table is not ready because the bar is full. This leaves guests hanging out near the door by the tables along the front--providing a disturbance to those diners. Management needs to allow at least 15 min longer between table times because of this.
We've only been to Gianni's twice now in the last year but will start making this a regular go to. The food, wine, and service are impeccable. We got the antipasto, spun salad with their homemade Caesar dressing, and rib eye steak that was cooked perfectly. It has a fun atmosphere and is right by lake Minnetonka for an evening walk after/before dinner.
I’m sorry, I just cannot justify the prices. Impeccable service, but I can create as good if not better steaks on my grill at home for one quarter the price. The noise level is almost unbearable. My wife and I could barely carry on a conversation. $275.00 for two people ordering conservative meals just isn’t right
Excellent food and service. Expensive, but worth it! The table side salad is out of this world and could serve as a meal on it's own. I only gave a lower rating for ambiance because the tables in the dining room are a little too close for comfort. We were rubbing elbows with the adjacent party and had to get up if they wanted to leave the table, so that could definitely be improved....
