What Insiders Are Saying
Ghibellina is a neighborhood Italian spot in Logan Circle. You’ll come for the pizzas and pastas, but stay for the cozy vibes and friendly service.
The food, generally speaking, is very good. I had a delicious pasta dish that was properly cooked and shared a crunchy risotto cake that was enjoyable. My dining companion enjoyed his pasta as well. The only low point was the undercooked Brussels sprouts. Where I have to mark the restaurant down is the noise level. The poor server, who was very good, was shouting at us to be heard and I still couldn't hear half of what she said about the specials. The tables are very close together so I could hear my neighbors' conversations.
Few choices at the menu.
I ordered pasta and roasted lamb (Pacheri con ragu di agnello), it was very spicy. My wife ordered fish of the day (branzino), it came out with no taste at all.
Appetizers were very good (burrada and riso al salto) and dessert was wonderful- cheesecake with Nutella).
Service was nice but the check arrived before we order the dessert.
The bar at Ghibellina alone is worth a stop if you're in the neighborhood. As cuisine in DC goes you could also certainly do worse. I'm happy every time I make a stop here.
Cordially greeted at the door, the Ghibellina staff welcomes you to a warm inviting dining experience that is comfortable and inventive with interesting interpretations of rustic Tuscan food. It is hard to go wrong ordering from the standard menu, but it is worthwhile to order from the waiter’s list of specials that usually has something eclectic and delicious. I am looking forward to my next dinner there.
Dinner was very nice and service was decent. Excellent menu and nice happy hour options.
We made reservations for 5:30 dinner, but arrived way early and decided to enjoy Happy Hour at the Bar! The drinks & pizzas were fabulous! When we had dinner & ordered the lamb ragout pasta dish, it seems the recipe had changed and it was heavy tomatoey....quite disappointing (we sent the two entrees back & decided to not reorder), but everything else was awesome.
Delightful to sit & chat & eat & drink well for 3+ hours brunch.
Never felt rushed, always attentive staff, very yummy & creative food offerings.
Some excellent wines by the glass... dummy me, I should've ordered a bottle cuz I drank it anyways.
We live nearby so happy to recommend to all & visit again.

OUTSTANDING! Everything. Service perfect. Atmosphere is alive but not too loud that you have to scream. Every single thing we ordered was delicious. This bruschetta with vegetables like zucchini eggplant and cheese on top, vegan soup (yum!), Brussels sprouts (they even left out the pork upon request). And the pizza was thin crusted. No oily but crusty and sauce and cheese tasty. It was our second time going. We will definitely be back!!!
Delicious food and great service.
Very disappointing. Service was rushed food came too quickly and they brought the check before we even asked. Table of noisey girls right beside us even though we were a couple and lots of other tables ! but main disappointment was the food. There was grit in my bruschetta starter which had arrived straight away it also wasn’t very warm or that nice. Pasta and pizza was ok but everything hugely overpriced. Would not return or recommend. I’m sure there are many many nicer Italian places to eat.
Wines are just too expensive. Great waitress. Pizza was a little bland, but salad was great.
The tables are to close the noise is too loud the service was too intense with interrupting our conversation to take plates away which felt very rude. The server while she’s tried to do a good job was not particularly helpful. It was my first visit and I cannot say that I would return again because of the disappointing experience.
It was my first time visiting Ghibelline's and I cannot wait to return. The service and the food was excellent. It was a Sunday evening and the restaurant was not crowded, but I must imagine that reservations are a must on high value days. Make the the arrangements, it is worth it.
Brunch was fantastic. Our waitress was very friendly and took care of us. We will definitely be back.
Pizza was great!
Delicious vegetable soup and branzino for lunch. My wife enjoyed her pasta. The service was friendly but very slow at times. I'll definitely go back and would recommend it.
I would not recommend this place as the service was terrible. We were seated at 5:45, however our server did not take our appetizer order until about 6:30. When we were ready to leave our table was cleared, but the check took another 30 minutes to arrive at the table and I had to flag the bartender down to get it. Overall, it shouldn't take 2.5hrs to get in and out when it takes me 30 mins to eat the appetizer and pizza.
The pizza lacked toppings as I ordered the Napoli and it had 2 anchovies total, which was a rip off for the price! The dough was undercooked, and the only thing going for the pizza was it had sauce. The appetizer was tasty, however it came out cold, and around 7:15pm.
I will NEVER return to this place, although the look and feel of the joint is neat.
We went a little early to beat the Sunday brunch menu. The alcove seating really helped keep the noise down. I thought the meal was priced accordingly in terms of quality, quantity, service and decor. The deuce table rocked a little when I first sat down, but the server quickly fixed it and all was fine throughout the brunch. Thank you.
Excellent pizza (better value during happy when they are half-price at the bar). I find that their pasta is over-sauced (probably what Americans expect, but excessive by Italian standards); the pasta itself is very good. Menu isn't overwhelming, but there's plenty to choose from (other than pizza and pasta). I would say that the wine list is expensive -- not sure there's much under $50 (certainly nothing less than $45).
Neighborhood gem. Interesting selections. Good service. Pricey wine list.
Great food. The waiter brought me one thing I didn’t order and also brought apps and meal at the same time which I thought was weird. it smelled like poorly washed dishes everywhere in my opinion.
Great food, wonderful ambiance and fantastic service.
It is a little dark in the restaurant.
A friend and I enjoyed a great pre-theatre dinner at Ghibellina. It was a Saturday night and the place was very crowded, but we were seated immediately. Our waitress was charming and knowledgeable, service was attentive but not intrusive, and we had a table in the back that -- while not exactly quiet -- let us converse easily. We started off by sharing a pleasant bibb lettuce salad, followed by our separate entrees: I had a fine, generously portioned broiled branzino on some excellent grilled vegetables, while my companion had a delicious steak that was tender and well flavored. To drink, we chose a lovely Italian extra brut rose (made in a traditional champagne method -- a special offering because it was close to Valentine's Day). For dessert we faced some difficult choices among a number of tempting gelati and sorbets; the dark chocolate and amarena cherry were exceptional. And we were out in plenty of time to make our 8 p.m. theatre curtain.
Sat at bar on a slow Saturday. Bartender was cold and rude, very arrogant and diffident , ruined an otherwise great pizza
One of the few DC restaurants that truly understands Italian cuisine. Service on our last 2 visits was exceptional, attentive but not intrusive. Our server made great recommendation.
I have never had worse service in my life. The waitress did not come by the table once without me flagging down another employee. We sat for 15 minutes before anyone brought us water, 30 mins before she took down our drink orders, and she never circled back to the table. The food and drinks were good but the service was atrocious.
I loved the funghii pizza and the burrata appetizer!
This was our third time to Ghiblelina and it does not disappoint. The food and service are exceptional. We chose it this time as we were meeting with some friends and wanted a quiet atmosphere. We were able to easily speak with each other across the table as the noise level is always low. We will be back.
Our waitress that evening was so helpful with suggestions and accommodations. Excellent service! Great atmosphere. Good pizza... especially the crust!
Cozy restaurant.Great food from beginning to end, great staff, and reasonably priced.
Every time I go to Ghibellina I am not disappointed! The pasta is amazing, I recommend the Ragu. I would recommend Ghibellina to a friend. Great environment and very nice staff!
Such a great time. As usual!
I've been wanting to go to Ghibellina for a while, but I wanted it to be for the right occasion. I ended up taking my wife and sister-in-law on Thursday, and what a treat it was.
With respect to my Italian roots, I have discriminating taste, so my expectations were high - and they were met! We started with the Insalata Ghibellina, which was so fresh and flavorful. My wife got the Quattro formaggi pizza and my sister-in-law the tagliatelle. However, the piece-de-resistance was the rib-eye. I love my meat, and a big, juicy, medium-rare perfectly cooked dish came out. Let me be clear - as a red-blooded American man, a well-cooked piece of meat is important. Did my inner caveman come out? Of course! But at least I was able to share (and didn't snarl at the table when I had to share).
Restaurant week had a yummy brunch, the next week had totally different experience. First of all, I have to say $6 for a cup, a cup of tea is inappropriate, especially considering when you order Earl Gray and are served a different kind of tea without notice. How does a restaurant not have earl gray tea? that's a staple. Ghibellina salad was great! the rest not so much, egg dry and taste less, same with sides. The restaurant must have different cooks, one is doing a great job, another not so much.
Excellent service; fresh excellent coffee! Definitely pricey, but an enjoyable experience!
Average food but great desserts.
