We celebrated a special occasion at Gertrude’s and it was lovely. We ate outside with the beautiful landscape as a backdrop. Staff was attentive and charming. Food was delicious. We will be back.
Great place for brunch!
In my opinion Gertrude's is one of the best restaurants in Phoenix. Love the unique native southwest flair in food and cocktails!
My husband and I visited the gardens for the first time and so we made sure to have reservations for dinner also. We sat outside and the warmers were perfect, the food was excellent and the scenery was romantic. We really enjoyed our evening!
Enjoyable lunch at Gertrude’s. Our table on the patio was available on time with friendly service. It’s a great spot for a break from touring the beautiful gardens.
Unbelievable service from all of the staff. Food was amazing. We will be back!
The vegan risotto was very tasty. The bread from Noble Bread was excellent. We will come back again. Bravo
Again, a very enjoyable lunch.
The hostess was upset with us, because the table she recommended was I direct sin. She didn’t let the person seating us, they could have shaded us in umbrellas. She told us we’d now to have to wait since we moved, and now the waitress was triple seated.
The waitress was gr8, knowledgeable and excellent.
Saturday, we met friends for Breakfast. We'd given Gertrude's great reviews for each of many visits. But . . .
this time we were embarrassed by the waiter's dirty shirt, very small portions and incomplete presentation. We are long time DBG members, so we'll be back, but this experience was a huge disappointment.
It is situated in a very special place and so is the cooking. Really worth the little extra money you will certainly have to spend here.
The evenings get cool and it would have been nice if they had had the patio heaters out instead of all lined up in the back.
Our entrees were basically inedible. Started with decent appetizer and a good salad, however, my friends shrimp and grits were awful and so was my risotto.
Used to be great but they have a fairly new chef & our meal was disappointing. The shrimp, on an otherwise terrific appetizer, was mushy. The chocolate cake, with a great contrast of ancho chile, was dry. The burger used to be fabulous but the addition of underseasoned mushroom duxelles made it knife & fork fare & kind of bland. Too bad as it’s a great setting
Gertrude's is hit-or-miss. The menu is different every time I go; this time, my companion and I both had a hard time finding something we wanted for lunch. The only sandwichy thing was the burger; the rest of the entrees that aren't soup or salad were all around $30 - too much for lunch. My friend had the arugula and date salad, which is very hard to eat (can't get it on the fork, and if you do, it sticks out all over the place) but which she said tasted wonderful. I got the special - a pastrami reuben - and it was good except that it was cooked too long and the bread was charred. I might have sent it back except that we'd already waited far too long for our food. Lunch was an hour and a half! All of that said, the reasons I'd recommend going there are that the food is good once you get it, and if you're at the Desert Botanical Garden anyway, it's a nice relaxation after walking around for a couple of hours.
