We were unhappy with our outside seating arrangement.
Even though there were empty
tables, we were denied our quest
for a table for 2. Instead we got a
table for 4 in a very poor location.

My two dinner companions had the same great enjoyment of the food/service that I did. Delicious ginger-dressing for the "house" salad. Good portions, too.

Our waiter - Tavo - was superb. The food was fine and ambiance is also fine. A very pleasant way to spend the early evening before the Ballet AZ performance in the garden.

A great place to relax and cool off after a visit to the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix or (as in our case) to enjoy a quality meal prior to Ballet in the Desert. The service was top notch with all the staff conscientiously attentive to our needs. The deliver of food was very fast and our drinks were always full. The food was very good and reasonable value. We will definitely go back!

They were great we were early for a reservation and they had us out on the patio where I had requested the menu’s a little bit different than what we are used to but it was very interesting and a fun night-

My husband and I had dinner here for Mother's Day before seeing the light show. I had the smoked salmon salad and he had the duck. Both were excellent and very good sized portions. It was a thoroughly enjoyable meal. We sat outside which was also great. Staff was very attentive and pleasant. We will diffidently go back.

Service was horrible. The waiter seemed in a hurry. He was not very attentive and was short when we asked questions. We had to wait for ages to get refills on our drink, than he brought the wrong wine out and seemed annoyed with us. Everyone has a bad day but if you can be friendly with others because you hope you get a bigger tip out of a table with more people, than clearly there is something wrong with the picture.

Service was good but food was cold and lacked seasoning. The corn fritter appetizers were over fried and extremely hard but the donuts for dessert were under cooked, doughy in the middle. Plate presentation was very nice. The jalapeno margaritas were fantastic! Enjoyed sitting on the patio!

Two of our party had the Smoked Salmon Benedict. One loved it, the other didn't like the grilled (?) arugula. I had Gertrude's Benedict which I loved.

The guitarist was playing too loud which was annoying. The service was very slow.

We requested a patio table weeks ago and were told it wouldn't be available for another hour even though there were empty tables on the patio. The noise level inside makes it almost impossible to talk. The selection of food on the menu is very limited. We won't go back or recommend it to others.

If you eat here, at least get a table outside. Inside is unbearably noisy, as are so many restaurants these days, making conversation impossible. The food is mediocre at best. The night we were there, it was very busy and understaffed. The service from our waiter was poor. He never checked back to see if we needed anything, or if the food was ok. He brought us the check without asking if we wanted dessert or coffee. It felt like he was too busy to care. I've had lunch or a snack in the back garden many times, because you're a captive there if you're visiting the Desert Botanical Garden. It's ok for lunch or a drink. But I would suggest eating elsewhere for dinner, and then visiting the garden either before or after your meal.

The ambience was nice. The service was good. But the food was just ok and while I loved that they have Arizona wines on the menu, the two reds we tried were served lukewarm.

Captured clients, trying to be upscale but not quiet making it. Location does not justify expene. Menue does not reflect A casual family or friends excursion in the Gardens.

The restaurant is just inside the entrance to Desert Botanical Garden. We had an early dinner before visiting a special evening exhibit in the garden. We could not get a reservation on the patio but our indoor table was just adjacent to the open wall to the patio, so we had the patio view with the cool indoor air. Our server, Carlos, was quick to our table, attentive and informative. The cocktail I ordered was a bit sweet to me. The wine list included many Arizona wines which was fun. Wish I had got the flight of wine instead of the Tombstone Lit cocktail. I did have a glass of the Merkin red blend with dinner though. We had the scallop entree and Shrimp risotto. Both were lovely presentations and very tasty, interesting flavors thoughtfully prepared. The scallops were enormous and the simple shrimp plentiful. Generous portions! Considering some negative reviews I read, my expectations were far surpassed. Too bad we were too full for dessert and eager to hit the Desert Trail. The donut holes with dipping sauce were very tempting. Maybe next time!

Our waitress was very nice but there was sand in the salad and the manger was not accepting that. She kept saying it was impossible but there was clearly mud on the leaves of one types of the lettuce in the salad. I love the DBG but will probably not go back to Gertrudes.
