Gertrude's - Phoenix
Excellent would recommend. Tofu was best tofu I've had but I'm still not a huge fan. Scallops and Korean chicken and seed salad were the stars along with the cacti margarita.
Korean chicken thighs are the best and my favorite. Wife had red snapper special and it was excellent. Donut holes for desert are a must have. Great location and we always have a good meal and evening
Found the menu distinctive and interesting. Food was very good (wild boar and iron steak) and blackberry gin cocktail delicious too. Service was friendly and attentive, and conscientious and responsive to allergies too. Highly recommend!
Interesting menu and excellent service.
Great way to enhance your visit to the gardens! Adult, teen, and grandparents and a great experience for all.
We had a great dinner before walking through the DBG to see the Electric light show. The food and service (Thanks to Max our server) was spectacular. We had an out of town visitor who was very impressed with the great food, ambience and wine.
It was cool and good
Wonderful server and wonderful music
Lovely patio. Fantastic service. Delicious food! Had bloody Marys, burgers (divine), and fresh doughnuts with three dipping sauces for dessert 💕👍🏼
If the weather is nice, outside is the place to be. Great service, interesting, delicious menu. Beautiful location.
Vegan bowls were very blah ,the special steak was very good but side vegetables were cold. The roast duck seemed to be the winner.
Nice environment. Good food tho nothing special. Good service. Way overpriced.
It was over the top wonderful! We dined on the patio, Jonathan took exceptional care of us and we are looking forward to another 5 Star visit!
$6 mimosas on Sunday Brunch - blood orange, regular orange or cranberry. $6 Bloodies too. Live music, beautiful outdoor seating.
I enjoyed the dinner w/ my girlfriend but only due to the outstanding service we received from our waiter.
We were really excited about eating dinner here and then seeing the Electric Desert Show. The menu was very intriguing. Unfortunately, the meal was poorly executed and we were underwhelmed. Our server, however, was wonderful! We ordered the morsels and Brussels sprouts as an appetizer which was good. We loved the pickled cauliflower. We also ordered the vegan bowl (good), butternut soup (good), duck & gnocchi (duck was good but gnocchi were not the pillows of yumminess that we were hoping for and the sauce didn’t quite go with the flavors), Korean chicken (plated terribly, way too much food and difficult to eat & drowned in the sauce - you could barely see the yogurt sauce or Brussels sprouts - very unappetizing to eat), scallops (scallops were perfectly cooked but paired with forbidden rice that did not match the dish - it needed something creamy), shrimp risotto (pretty good dish - risotto had grittiness instead of a creamy consistency). I would consider this cafe food but at a fine dining price range.
Hush Puppies Appetizer was great! Had the taco special for lunch but left the hot sauce side on the sidelines.
Great place if you are visiting the botanical garden
Michelle, the manager, went to great lengths to accommodate our group of 10 inside, when the weather turned cold. And Kristen, our server, could not have been more wonderful. She was one of the best, friendliest servers I've ever had.
The food was a creative and delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Appetizer were good as well. Family friendly atmosphere. I've already recommended it to several friends.
From start to finish the experience was awful. When asked to describe the dishes our waiter made us feel dumb and said things like, “what do you want to know?” He then left out details like, it’s deep fried. As a side note the Koren BBQ chicken thighs were awful, unless you like under done tempura battered chicken with bland Brussels sprouts. We went for my mom’s birthday and although I noted it in my reservation the waiter couldn’t even be bothered to say happy birthday. The food was mediocre at best, but I was honestly even more disappointed in the service. Had the hostess bothered to ask how everything was on our way out, I would have gladly told her, but she didn’t. I even called as a follow up to let them know what a poor experience it was because I was really bothered about it and the manager told me she would be have been happy to go into the kitchen herself to make me something I would be happy with if I had only said something earlier. Lady I was trying to not be obnoxious since we were celebrating and I thought certainly when I mentioned to our waiter that I never would have ordered that dish had I known it was going to be breaded and fried, he said he would make a note for next time because that did seems important. 🤦🏻♀️What a total loss. I wouldn’t recommend this for lunch. Maybe they do drinks and appetizers better. I wish I had read your reviews first, would have saved me from a bad meal for $150...yes, $150 with no alcoholic beverages and 3 entrees plus 2 kids meals. So, so disappointed in a place that has been on my list for a good year.
Great food, little pricey but delicious. Love the salmon salad.
We were quickly greeted with a friendly smile when we entered the restaurant. The waiter promptly told us the specials & took our lunch order in a timely manner. The orders varied (e.g. salads, soup, and burger) and we all were pleased with the flavors & freshness of the food. I had ordered the greens salad and was asked if I wanted a small or large (this was not indicated on the menu - only stated $10). I requested small thinking that it would be enough for a lunch meal. When I received it, it was a tiny side salad. I wish The waiter would’ve mentioned this, because I ended up ordering the large greens salad. The Donut Holes dessert was a hit at our table! They were filled with scrumptious ricotta and had 3 dips to choose from (pickled pear, hot fudge, and salted caramel)! I look forward to my next meal there!
Service was excellent and food was great. You can find cheaper, but not better.
Duck was tough. Boar dish was boring. Soup had too much cumin.
The food is not as good as it used to be given the price. The risotto was undercooked and the Korean chicken sauce was overpowering . Bread was good and the dessert excellent.
Good weekend brunch. Local ingredients.
Good bloody Mary.
Had a fabulous meal and drinks, a little cold, the restaurant was great.
Good if you are going to botanical gardens . Wouldn’t go out of my way otherwise.
A beautiful space for lunch or dinner. Live music (guitar player) was a plus. Food is very good! Time from order to food reaching table can be a little slow.
I love this restaurant! I go often, and nearly always take out of town guests for a meal here. This visit was no exception. I had two young guests from Canada. The exception was that the restaurant was very chilly, which meant the food did not stay warm long enough to finish. Add to that a musician was setting up and opened the glass door which increased the chill. That is my only issue - and let me say again how much I love this place!!
Wonderful food coupled with a great location made for a memorable night out for the entire family.
We made a reservation for outside but it was a bit cold out and there were no heaters set up on the patio. The hostess was very accommodating in finding us a seat inside.
Food-was ok, meat undercooked and placed on corner of large plate with no garnish, etc. Salad was mediocre at best, lack of dressing problematic. Not a long wait for the food but once the plates were set on the table we never saw our waiter until he dropped the check. No refill on drinks or checking if we needed anything else.
On the positive side it’s a beautiful location w/in the Phoenix Desert Gardens and a convenient spot for a meal if you’re spending time there.
The food choices were outstanding! We loved the appetizer selection and ordered several of them! The main dishes were vegetarian friendly and delicious. The desserts were fun and very interesting! I HIGHLY recommend Gertrude's! It was delicious!!!!
After attending the luninarias event it was a perfect place to sit and appreciate the experience.
Great food and excellent service. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about all the wine & food choices.
Our server was great! Tried the wild boar and was very impressed. Shrimp risotto was not that great however (got to be honest). Two of my guests ordered it and complained it was not seasoned well enough. The drinks were fantastic to make up for this though! A good dining experience at the Gardens overall.
Outing from California but here to go to Mayo....My mother ordered the Braised Beef with Fingerling Potatoes. Her dish was outstanding. I am highly allergic to animal protein and soy so I ordered the vegan quinoa bowl with assorted sautéed veggies. It was terrible. The quinoa was under cooked and had not undergone the 3x rinsing process. The grit that was on my tongue with each bite was really yuck. I ate most of the veggies and left the quinoa. We did not tell the the waitress because there was not anything else on the menu I could eat plus it was freezing that night and we just wanted to leave. If I were them, I would just put a stir fry veggie dish on the menu with a pasta option with it. Quinoa seems to be difficult for many restaurants.
The menu was unusual and both entrees that we had were wonderful. They were the wild boar and the shrimp risotto. We started with the simple green salad which was ample for 3 and perhaps even for 4. The bread was almost a loaf and was more than plenty! The food was very gourmet with beautiful presentation.
Very disappointed with the lack of food options on the menu. I had soup and salad and the soup was good but the salad was just ok
Birthday and Christmas . Waiter was fantastic! He deserves a raise 😎
