Gertrude's - Phoenix
The food was really good and I got a huge portion for the price, which was nice. However, the service was extremely slow, considering the restaurant was not very busy.
Good food. Unique dishes that tasted well.. definitely going back
Outstanding customer experience! Service level was perfect. Food was of the highest quality, delicious and more than adequate in portion size quantity. Great evening out. Highly recommend.
Great ambiance and service. Loved the Prickly Pear Mimosa!
This place is awesome!! The botanical gardens are great too! Our waiter was just attentive enough. The menu is small but has something for everyone. The smoked tofu was great, so was the risotto and grain salad. We will be back.
Food was terrible, forget the price.. Would not return or recommend.
I would have preferred outside seating but it was to hot to sit outside. Noise level was very high inside but better than being outside in the heat. Food was good, service was great. I would come back in the fall so I could enjoy the outdoor setting and less noise.
The menu is a bit all over the place. I really wish this restaurant would focus on the Southwest, given their location at the DBG. Would love to see some creative use of cactus and other native plants. That said, the ahi tuna was wonderful. The thai pasta was just OK. The setting is beautiful and it was very nice out on the patio.
Very limited menu and service that needs much improvement
Staff was more than accommodating. Intending to pick up tickets for Ballet in the Garden I found the box office closed but my dinner reservation conflicted with the time to pick up the tickets when box office was to open. The staff arranged to hold my dinner so that I could slip out to pick up tickets. Although my reservation was made late and patio was full, the staff arranged my table so I could have full view of the patio with all the vegetation and the beautiful glass artist work of Dale Chihuly. I warned the waiter that I drink lots of water hoping he would see to keeping my glass refilled. He brought me my own carafe of water. I felt like a princess. I had not had prickly pear cactus pads since living in Texas. The grilled Grilled Nopales was treat. The prickly pear here in my AZ yard have so many spines/prickles I cannot scrape them all off to cook.
The ambiance was incredible
Service was adequate
Food was delicious
Price of food was way to expensive for quantity of serving
Was once one of my favorites, now moved down the list
Gertrude's is one of my favorite restaurants in Phoenix. It is situated in my favorite place to visit- the Desert Botanical Gardens, so that is a win/win for me.
Just a great atmosphere, great food and everyone was so friendly. I will come back with my girlfriend for sure in the future.
Took cousin and her husband to celebrate her 68th birthday. We are all vegan. We all had different dishes and they were very tasty. We especially liked the beet cheesecake, but didn't like the long wait to get it.
This used to be a favorite place to eat and unwind... such beautiful surroundings. BUT WOW... the food has really terrible lately. The last two times I have dined it has been awful. I had the scallops this time, and they were so over cooked it had the texture of rubber and the mole was smothering and overpowering. Our server was kind but never came over once we received our food (from another server) to see if everything was ok... I ate what I could as we had another engagement to get to. We actually waited quite awhile to get our check.
Too bad... we used to dine here regularly... maybe we’ll try breakfast again... it’s hard to mess up breakfast food right?
Only small complaint, I wish you guys did brunch on days outside of the weekend. Otherwise fantastic.
Breakfast bowl with Clianto fried rice was excellent. Rose sangria was light and refreshing
The food was delicious, and our server John was wonderful. The menu is very different, and we took great delight in choosing. I also appreciated their list of Arizona wines. Definitely going back!
For the cost, there are better restaurants in Phoenix. We were disappointed.
A nice new (for us) spot. A wonderful evening enjoying dinner in the garden. A really good menu with several farm to table items. The scallops were the best my wife has ever had (she says). Good local wines.
Everything was just perfect! The service was good and the food was delicious. It was not too busy on the patio and the surroundings were so peaceful. It made for a very relaxing meal. It’s a little pricey, but we all enjoyed the meal and location so much and considered it worth the price. I would not eat inside the restaurant as it seemed very noisy compared to the patio.
Beautiful setting, wonderful food. Enjoyed dinner before an event at the Gardens. Looking forward to visiting again.
Ideal location - but hit and miss on the food. No standouts but acceptable standard faire. I usually return to the burger but there is nothing great about its flavor, the accompaniments or the four fingerling potatoes. If a restaurant dares to serve a burger, go to a Houston's and learn hot to prepare one.
food was fresh, interesting and delicious. I had Three Sisters Soup and an arugula salad. Wonderful. My friends had Korean Chicken Thighs and a rice noodle bowl, all was great. Ambience was lovely, we dined on the patio. Service was professional and extremely courteous and helpful. I was dubious when friend suggested the restaurant at the Garden, but I am now a convert.
It was noisy inside. The service was good. I wish my soup had been hotter, as well as the coffee. I'm sorry they took the soup/salad combo off the menu, or don't offer it at dinner time.
This is my favorite place
Danielle was a fantastic server.
I always love dining here. The food is excellent and the ambiance is wonderful. The Desert Botanical Garden makes a perfect backdrop for your meal and the menu puts a good spin on traditional items without overdoing it. Lots of vegan, gluten free items too!
Our first time at Gertrude’s and it was so nice, from the live music, beautiful gardens, delicious food and wonderful service. We will definitely come back again.
Great meal. Service was good. We bring guests from out of town - and they always enjoy it.
Although our server was helpful, the food was not good. My salad was banal and friend's dish unexceptional. there are practically no vegetarian options. A big disappointment.
We’re pretty regular customers of Gertrude’s and have left many reviews, all extremely positive. We love it for the atmosphere and the creative, excellent food. With the exception of a minor service hiccup, out first ever here, once again we had a great experience. I’m always surprised this place isn’t busier, especially on a performance night (Eroica).
We were unhappy with our outside seating arrangement.
Even though there were empty
tables, we were denied our quest
for a table for 2. Instead we got a
table for 4 in a very poor location.
We dined on the patio which was shaded, and with a light breeze, very comfortable for a May early evening. Service was efficient, and our server was knowledgeable a and gracious. The food was presented beautifully and it was as delicious as it looked.
My two dinner companions had the same great enjoyment of the food/service that I did. Delicious ginger-dressing for the "house" salad. Good portions, too.
Our waiter - Tavo - was superb. The food was fine and ambiance is also fine. A very pleasant way to spend the early evening before the Ballet AZ performance in the garden.
A great place to relax and cool off after a visit to the Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix or (as in our case) to enjoy a quality meal prior to Ballet in the Desert. The service was top notch with all the staff conscientiously attentive to our needs. The deliver of food was very fast and our drinks were always full. The food was very good and reasonable value. We will definitely go back!
The food and the service were both excellent.
They were great we were early for a reservation and they had us out on the patio where I had requested the menu’s a little bit different than what we are used to but it was very interesting and a fun night-
