Always happy with the service and food here. The drinks are great too. I love the Sonoran Eggs Benedict.
Impossible to match Gertrude's anywhere in Phoenix--especially if entertaining out of state guests who have never fully experienced cactus world. Although it was hot (we ate outside in 105 degree weather) it was shady and tolerable. I don't know why they weren't using on site misters (and didn't ask) (perhaps Covid related). Gertrude's continues to be my first choice for a special dinner outing. Excellent food, generous portions, and fairly priced.
If Gertrude's wasn't associated with the DBG, it wouldn't be worth going there. Although in the past we have been happy with the food, this time the food simply wasn't very good. Perhaps it's just that it's summer in Phx...
Gertrudes is an excellent location with delicious food.
Food was good, but No WoW factor.
The food is bad/ service was ok/ the tables were sticky/ cleanness is below ok. I will not visit again.
My friend and I ate at Gertrude's and could only get a reservation for 330 pm,though we had hoped to go for lunch. We were the only people in the restaurant for 1 full hour so it was lovely and quiet with a friendly attentive waitress. The Cactus Cosmos was so yummy we had two of them with the carrot humus, also delicious. We would have loved to eat on the patio for the ambience but it was too hot..We will try again in a month. We were pleased with our choice of the beef and bleu salad...and could have shared it easily. Since we were there for my friend's bday, she was treated to a yummy dessert..gelato ice cream and a little cake that we shared. Dinner table service starts at 330 so we had a waitress ..before that it is choose your choice at the counter..at least for summer. We recommend it!
Great service, our waiter was knowledgeable and made some wonderful recommendations. By far the shining star of our whole meal was the carrot gazpacho— just amazing! Will dine here again on our next visit to the botanical gardens.
This was the first time we've had brunch at Gertrude's -- we've had lunch there several times. The brunch menu has something for everyone -- our American breakfasts (eggs, bacon, etc) were tasty & satisfying without overfacing us. The prickly pear preserve is a worth a visit alone!
Cocktails were disappointing but food really lovely and our waiter was extremely good
Brunch was excellent. Loved the low sound level and service was very good.
Wonderful meal at Gertude’s! Just moved our daughter into ASU and enjoyed a great meal here, the braised beef was so tender, it was incredible! The other diners had rice noodles and duck enchiladas, everyone loved everything! Then afterwards we strolled through the botanical gardens. It was a great experience!
Gertrudes at the Botanical Gardens is always a lovely option for brunch, lunch or dinner. The menu include vegan and vegetarian options. It is always a favorite for my daughter and I. I prefer outside seating when the weather is more conducive.
Restaurant was not as clean as I would have liked. Food was good, large portions. Service was great.
Love the gardens and the ability to eat and then take in the Botanical Gardens afterwards
With a granddaughter who has recently diagnosed celiac disease, we have been stymied in our ability to eat out. Gertrude's has changed that for us. Sunday was our third visit to Gertrude's with the granddaughters, and we couldn't be more pleased. The wait staff took our concerns about cross contamination very seriously and worked with the back-of-the house staff to ensure that our granddaughter's food was free of gluten. We couldn't have been more pleased with Holden's attention to detail, even remembering us from one visit to the next. Those gluten-free donut holes were such a treat!
Great brunch menu. Great server. Who wouldn't want to be in DBG for a relaxing meal!
This was the single worst dining experience I’ve ever had. We sat their without being greeted or even getting water for over 20 min. We finally got up and left.
The waiter rushed us through our drinks/meal. When he brought the food out, he also brought the bill. The food was subpar. I ordered the duck enchiladas. And it was covered with red sauce (tasted like canned marinara). Poor experience.
FLIES inside everywhere covering windows, on our straws, glasses, food, in our face. Reported to servers and they did nothing. No sauce on pulled pork nor provided with said pork. Awful green something served as dressing for root salad.
The food is terribly bland. The place is swarming with flies. The service is not helpful. And it's annoyingly loud.
The food was good. I thought that the scenery would be a bit nicer but it was ok. The man who took our order and prepared the food was lovely but the hostess was a bit terse.
Very nice people, great food, fun time overall! Try the frozen drinks!
Gertrude's is such a relaxing place to eat. Excellent food and you can not beat their patio.
The real reason to eat at Gertrude’s is the beautiful Desert Botanical Garden. The food is excellent. The patio is the only choice, inside was loud and we didn’t have a choice to sit outside.
Great Brunch! Great location! Will be going back often.
This a great place to visit at least once, the appetizers were great and so was the service. After a long through the botanical garden, this will be the right place end the visit.
The food was amazingly delicious. I am planning to return with other friends as soon as possible. The wait staff was terrific and the choices for brunch were outstanding.
The ambiance is perfect! Food and cocktails were delicious! Can’t wait to have the baby shower there in October on the courtyard!!!!
We always love eating here! Such an amazing local menu and wine list. Would recommend for date nites or a great time with friends and family.
Brunch menu was limited, but excellent. Great service and yummy deserts!
The food was wonderful! We did not expect the drinks to be as delicious as they were. I cannot say enough about the staff- this was the 1st restaurant that I felt comfortable going to post Covid. Their tables on the patio are still spaced very far apart and wait staff wears their masks. Thank you for the comfortable and inviting atmosphere!
Enjoy uncrowded Gertrudes in the summer. Same awesome surroundings, same attention to detail. Fast service with waitstaff willing to go the extra mile to make your experience memorable.
Although we planned to eat outside for Father’s Day, Michelle accommodated us at the bar inside due to the sweltering heat. We had a very nice experience and food was delicious. Would love misters on the patio so we can eat outside! Donut holes with 3 different fresh sauces are out of this world!
The new menu is terrible, and I am fairly certain the scrambled eggs I got were not real eggs, but egg substitutes. They should bring back the old menu as the current quality and variety is worse than Denny's/IHOP.
The food is extremely overpriced. Nothing spectacular about it. I ordered the salmon salad and it tasted like it came out of a can, I can make better tasting ones at home. The toppings were little to none. The carrot hummus appetizer tasted sour like it was going bad. Drinks were warm, we ordered the blackberry basil lemonade and beer. The price was astronomical in our eyes for the quality and taste... very upset with our money spent here.
Would be nice if they added misters to the outside, but the food was great as always and the service was outstanding. Always enjoy going there and look forward to the next time.
This restaurant is so good, I keep visiting the Desert Botanical Garden with different friends, then having a meal there. The atmosphere is gorgeous, the service and food are top notch. The staff is helpful and polite. The chefs are creative and willing to accommodate special needs.
I was quite surprised by the lack of ambiance since my last visit. There were enough people eventually but we never got past the concrete floor and dark dining room. The menu is very limited but all our selections were very good and very fresh. Our server, Fred, was perfect…attentive and responsive and especially kind to our birthday guest.
Sonora Benedict was disappointing.
