   Gertrude's: Disappointment Under the Desert Sun Our long-awaited visit to Gertrude's as Phoenix natives was a regrettable experience. While the gift shop offered cool, bug-free relief, the restaurant was stiflingly hot and plagued by flies – utterly unappetizing. The cafeteria-like ambiance and the open door amplifying the heat did nothing to improve things. The "farm-to-table" aspirations fell flat. Beyond a decent cauliflower and shishito appetizer, the food was underwhelming. My reheated-tasting salmon with a cloyingly sweet mango risotto was a low point, as was the oddly dressed raw kale. Prepackaged Caesar and kids' meals, alongside basic curry and noodles, further missed the mark. At over $20 an entree, the lack of care was glaring. The highlight was escaping to the cool gift shop. As excited locals, this deeply disappointing first impression makes a return unlikely and a recommendation impossible. Poor value, poor ambiance, and those flies – a generous 2 out of 5 stars.

   We stopped in for lunch after walking through the Desert Botanical Gardens. We had a lovely time, our server was excellent, and the food was delicious.

   Excellent food. Willing to create something for you with the menu items. Great veg and vegan and gf choices. Pricey for lunch though with no alcohol. 35/person with tip

   Our waiter Chance was attentive, tailored our order to our personal tastes and introduced us to an exceptional AZ white Vermentino wine! Thank you Chance for making our birthday celebration a truly special meal!

   The hostess who greeted us was very enthusiastic and accommodating find us the best seat in the house. The person who served our drinks and waitress were very helpful with the menu and great personalities. Couldn’t have had a better experience. Food was amazing!

   Having lunch at Gertrude’s was a great part of our day at DBG. The food was very delicious and innovative. The service was top notch. I would highly recommend Gertrude’s.

   Staff was helpful in accommodating our need to change the reservation time. Our waitress Kristen was very attentive and friendly. The mussels were excellent and the noodle bowl was unremarkable. We appreciated the extra touches for our anniversary including a card and festive dessert. Overall a wonderful experience!

   It was amazing! I went here for lunch for my birthday. They wrote me a cute birthday note & brought me out complimentary dessert! The food was delicious. I got an American Breakfast. My drink was also super tasty! My server was also so helpful. Overall, I’d highly recommend!
